Just to add to the Deathclaw discussion. I am level 26 in FONV atm. Melee build with power armor, got the Oh Baby super sledge and just went out to get the Remnants power armor which is guarded by like 30 deathclaws, two mothers and an alpha aswell. I am playing on very hard and this is the result of my fight. Hardcore mode, used like 10 stimpaks and some chems, but it was easier than expected, harder than Fallout 3 though. Hoping they will add this and more insane fights in FO4.

Hardcore / VH: the only way to go! Well done! If you want another challenge when you get done with this playthrough, try the DUST survival sim mod! Probably the most infuriatingly fun way I've played New Vegas. Set 20 years after the events of Courier 6, the whole challenge is to escape the Mojave (but you have to figure out how) with very little ammo, very little food and water, (but you still have Hardcore rules), deadly-swarming cannibal enemies and creatures like tunnelers (who have killed all the geckos), and you try not to become a cannibal or go insane in the process. Needless to say, it's quite...challenging; and very well done. It is not for the light of heart. Seriously.

Does this "Dust" mod operate from a premise that New Vegas collapsed after the Courier did whatever (s)he did?

http://forums.bethso...rt-speculation/

Worth a read, mostly a speculation on the perk system based on the info we have so far. Almost seems legit.

The deathclaw looked extreamly easy int hat trailer so my fears are coming true.

We'll never see the return of the nV deathclaws, that created many lulzy stories of low lvls trying to get to NV where the junction.

I still adore that bit of world design.

Which happens pretty dam early and if you can wipe a deathclaw like that very early, then I AM concerned.

New Vegas Deathclaws are also a joke when you're rocking power armour with a minigun =P

We don't know when it is in the game, we don't know what difficulty it was or if its just an introduction to the use of power armor and heavy weapons. Because of a few seconds in one trailer you are way to negative over something that we know so little about. Its not like the Deathclaws was that good in New Vegas either, just better than Fallout 3. Also fighting a legendary dragon in Skyrim at high difficulty is still amazing. So i think they have learned what it means to have good encounters with special and powerful enemies.

Something also worth noting: The vast majority of live game demonstrations involve playing the game on a very easy difficulty, if not providing the player with god mode.

You generally don't want your demonstration to involve the player dying, unless you're advertising Dark Souls then maybe you do.

Your Dragon argument is invalid, those things are boring to kill. They were fun when the game first came out but now they are just annoying, don't even really wanna active the main quest that sets them loose so I can run around without getting attacked by a dragon in the city. Dragon Fights in the city are the worst thing ever.

The dragons in Skyrim where extremely easy, why do you think the big dragon mods are so popular? It fixes and adds far more mechanics to make the dragons harder and more fun to fight.

In fact the dragons on Skyrim represent one of Bethesdas big issues in game design. They give us something (dragons), but they add barebone mechanics, make them very easy and add little difference between the dragon types. This is very consistent with Bethesda, along with their writing and characters.

FO4 is about surviving in the wasteland, they should show this instead of the player rolfstomping things like the deathclaw.

Fallout 4 will be about thriving in the wasteland and becoming a powerful character.

Fallout 3 did that, and even your precious New Vegas did that. Neither of those games have you worrying about survival beyond the first couple of hours.

exactly, you fight one dragon and you pretty much fought them all including the main quest boss.

I play on hardmode only in NV, so yes I DID have to worry about that stuff after the first couple of hours.

Courier also only became OP WITH the dlcs, not before. On the other hand Bethesda PCs are always OP and pretty much gods before the dlcs come out.

When I say worry about it, I mean not have so many supplies stockpiled that it stopped mattering hours ago which in New Vegas still happens as long as you're actually picking up resources as you play. Having to remember using an item every so often is not "worrying about it".

The Courier does become overpowered without the DLCs, just not as ridiculously so as in Fallout 3. By the time the first DLC had come out, there was nothing really left in the Mojave that posed a serious threat to me.

Both FO3 and NV have balance issues. FO3 due to you becoming immortal with you becoming able to kill all enemies with like 1 to 3 hits and taking no damage and NV due to an overabundance of resources. In my current playthrough I have so many sunset sarsaparilla's that it's filled up 3 companions inventories.

Even in hardcore mode you carry way to much water and food anyway. You need to use a mod like Project Nevada and tune the balance before it becomes challenging with hardcore mode. And in my new playthrough i one hit most enemies with my super sledge and i am only level 27 and haven't even started any dlc yet. The Courier becomes just as overpowered as the Lone Wanderer, it just takes a few more levels to hit that sweet spot.

I would still expect more balance issues in Fallout 4, though. It's not something that Bethesda is very good at =P

Both the Champion of Cyrodiil in Oblivion and the Dragonborn in Skyrim can get insanely overpowered as well.

Definately. I'm kinda curious what the balance issue of FO4 will be. I feel like it's going to involve the power armor in some way.

That's why you play a high risk high reward build, your resources and supplies get in used regularly instead of hoarding up. Going into the thick of things with medium armor and a shotgun and medicine stick is dangerous, both in damage output and your survival. It's also more fun.

Power armor and typical Bethesda designs.

I use light armor and whatever weapon I feel like.
