Todd Howard says "you can create any character you want"... then the Vault Dweller starts talking in that douchey whitebread voice.

I think, now that Bethesda's making us play a lame Shepard wannabe, open world RPGs have run their course for me. If I'm going to be forced to play someone else's character, I want it to be a tight, story-focused game, not hours on end.

I'm a bit annoyed about the whole forced husbando background (though at least I can tweak his face so there's that at least).

 

And yeah it's gonna make the companion mods a bit of a bother =/

It doesn't have to be husbando or waifu background that annoys me, it takes any predetermined background to annoy me. I mean, come on one thing that add the charm to Bethesda's games is that you're able to be the character, be your character and not someone else's character.

 

Not just the companion mods, quest/adventure mods as well, in fact any mod that adds new dialogue to your PC. Just image the inconsistency when your character always speak within the main game's context, but become the silent protagonist in mod's context. I guess, my Fallout 4's load order won't have that much of a new companion or new quest/adventure mod like the previous Fallout games.

Nah voices sound OK to me. and i'm assuming the confirmed bachelor an Cherchez la Femme perks will be in there. same with Black widow and Lady killer.

With the back ground well you can ignore it latter i suppose.

I just hope the dialogue wheel/voiced and heavily set backstory protagonist thing doesn't make its way into The Elder Scrolls too.

 

Well, they turned it into an MMO. Then a phone game. Honestly a voice protag with a deeper emphasis on character might do that series some good.

When they started talking about stupid mobile tie-in games, I switched off the channel lest I think I wandered into an Ubisoft or EA feed.

Alright so that presentation has piqued my interest. Not entierly sure how I feel about all the predetermined stuff but I'm cool with the having a voice.

When I saw the announcement trailer, and as soon as the PC speaks, I'm afraid it would come to this. That is one cons of the voiced protagonist. I suppose I'll grow used to it as well, or that the main story and DLC is that awesome it was a blast, it's so good I never even wanted to try new companion/new quest mod. XD

But that's never been the case. You don't get to choose to be the courier. You don't get to choose to be born in a vault. You're character barely has a character, but it doesn't make it your character. it just makes it no character. By making the player silent, and everything be mostly first person, but have it so that we talk through a text menu, that's not freedom. That's being forced to play a mute who can only say whatever ther pitboy allows them to say.

 

At least this gave some reason for there to be a character creator in the first place. Problem with making everything built around a first person perspective with 3rd person as a tacted on after thought, is that it makes it pointless for your character to even have a form beyond a basic body model. Like Bloodborne or Dark Souls, 98% of the time, you'll never see your character nor have a point to see your character.

 

That's just my take on it though. To me, there's no immersion or "I'm the character" sensation unless I can actually translate my words, into the game, and literally do whatever I want. Otherwise it isn't "my character" I'm playing, but rather "My Protagonist", a per-established character who I was allowed semi-control over, with the other half going to the writers and dev team.

You are either straight or bisexual, seeing as you have a kid with another person at the start of the game. How perks will work into choices we can make, like black widow, chez la femmes etc, we'll see. I don't think player sexuality is something Bethesda is very focused on to be honest.
