So, I think I can guess wich will be starting story of the game. The protagonist will wake up alone in the vault with everyone dead inside. In the demo they show him picking up his pipboy from an dead scientist. And he will leave the vault, hoping to find his wife and baby in the wasteland.

Well, makes it better than saving it up for the tinker guy in Megaton.

Also, when you are literally surrounded by scrap metal (half of the buildings in the game could qualify), it did seem silly that it was a bit of a rare resource.

I really like how we aren't looking for screws or glass lenses, but rather can scrap random items, such as a globe or a clock. It makes recipes a lot more flexible when you have multiple sources for the same base craft materials.

apparently you get the most screws from Rock It Buttercup or whatever the name of that horse toy was :D

anyway, i really like how this gives a use for all the random items that were previously considered trash, i mean in the past it made zero sense that something like say...adhesive...had no use in a world that is falling apart

So it seems like Bethesda is intent on making Fallout more sand-boxy than ever. Not exactly my cup of tea, and I suspect the minecraft base building is going to be rather neutered at launch without mods. And things like sprinting, a more extensive weapon customization, power armor customization, and even base defense already exists in modded FO3/New Vegas. Not exactly hyped so far as we still don't know much about the setting and story.

Why should they reveal anything about the setting and the story at a press event? Or at all. Don't you want to explore that for yourself? I know i do. I am glad they kept the story stuff under wraps and i hope they do, all the way to launch.

Or the baby turns out to be the legendary founder of a nearby civilization, worshipped by the descendants of his followers as a hero.

I'm going with that or the super mutant idea.

I honest think they are going to try and find a way to distribute mods through Bethesda.net to consoles (and include the ability to charge for them along the way). Maybe you select the mod to download for the XB1 through Bethesda.net and then find a way to transmit it to your console with going through XBL? Just a thought.

Bethesda have been trying to get mods on consoles since Oblivion, and if they can monetise it, then even better. Rather than competing with Steam as a storefront for games, it's competing with Steam Workshop and the Nexus as a hub for (paid) player created content. I'm sure they'll dress it up as a nice app-store type enterprise where players of all platforms can enjoy paid mods, but the end result for a PC gamer is logging into Steam, before opening an integrated Bethesda.net login game launcher and then exiting out of it because you have UNAUTHORISED MODS (aka manually installed an older version from the Nexus) in your install folder or something.

It's all just speculation and I'd be quite happy to be flat out wrong. But after the previous paid mods situation, I just cannot see this turning out any other way.

That said, I'd pay for a mod that makes high CHA dialog play clips of Freddie Mercury singing relevant lyrics as the voice over.

Well, unless of course

Spoiler

I still think that's a twist beyond Bestheda.I don't think they're quite willing or able to cover the same ground as Philip K. Dick.

Maybe we'll meet the descendants of our child. It has been 200 years later or the family never existed in the first place.

This is going to be a deal breaker for me, if this Bethseda.net just turns into yet another layer of DRM why even bother. But of course if they add paid mods were they take the majority of the profits or release game that is broken at launch (which they have done in the past) it will still sell.

That new platform is all about the paid mods. And to ensure the product has DRM like origin or steam. I'm not sure why people expect anything else.

Settlement building looks like it's ripped straight out of some popular mods for F3 and FNV. Not saying that's a bad thing, but I highly doubt there will be any significant story content involved.

A "create your own small thriving community and the challenges it faces" would be a nice touch if it's done as a long spanning side quest with established characters, moral choices and ways to build up your town linked to story decisions (run your fortress like a dictator, take a more open trade based approach, etc). Like leading a group of Vault Dwellers out into the Wasteland and building up reputations with traders, nearby towns and constructing a settlement, solving infighting and ultimately coming to a conclusion on how you want to run the town and what that entails for the inhabitants (if any). Imagine playing out a Junktown storyline from the perspective of Killian or Gizmo. That kinda thing.

But I get the impression that it will be generic NPCs and it will just be another outlet for the player to enjoy the sandbox. Besides, what I outlined would be difficult to implement.

What's up with the skill removal though? The SPECIAL -> Skills -> Perks/Traits system is part of what makes Fallout, Fallout.

I think you explained the underpinning to both decisions in your post in one of the other threads: Bestheda in no way even remotely gets Fallout. Removing skills as part of the absolutely brilliant SPECIAL (to this day my favourite ruleset from a cRPG) is par for the course, just like the settlement will be some random open world thing instead of a critical and satirical take on society.

If this were Obsidian or another of their brand of Black Isle successors, I'd say the whole thing would be a parody of American history and manifest destiny. But with Bestheda behind it I think we'll just get a really underwhelming version of Sim City.

I was initially disinterested in this game, but after the E3 reveal, it sure managed to impress me well enough with several of its aspects, which outweighed the cons on my part. Safe to say it is possible I might as well get this game once it releases.

To be honest I'd be fine if they left the PC space alone why'll charging console players for mods. However unlikely it would be.

You can play as a male character.

There are also male NPCs in the game (and some of them are not murders or rapists).

There was that Mary Sue contributor/writer who said that Fallout 4 was transphobic because of the guy in a dress for half a second, so you're already too late. :)

And? This is Bethesda's vision for Fallout and as i see it no other studio will ever touch this franchise again. We don't yet know how it will fit into the game, but i think it fits the theme perfectly and it lets you help rebuild the Wasteland. You build more than one settlement, you can set up caravans between them, defend them from attacks etc. I am willing to bet there will be quests tied to this aswell. And if it at all draws some inspiration from Hearthfire in Skyrim this will be awesome. That is the best house building mechanic i have seen in a game. No it will not be as story driven as Obsidian, we get that :P its over!
