There is one thing no one I've talked to has talked or speculated about, and that is the issue of derived stats and skills. It will be interesting to see what they change. I'm fairly confident Primary Stats (S.P.E.C.I.A.L.) will return and remain unchanged, but underlying skills is something that will definitely be up for grabs. I mean, look how significantly they changed just from FO3 to New Vegas. So that went in the unknown, but want to know, column.
I mean it comes down to Survival or no Survival; Big Guns or No, Hardcore or No.

In the trailer there is a Special book on the floor in the kids room. I am hoping Hardcore mode makes it into the game, i can't really play without it anymore.

Small Guns focus (gods please bring Big Guns back...for later playthroughs...or side hobby for first playthrough)
Explosives!!!
Repair (they better bring back new Vegas style crafting or I will be...um...not happy)
Pick me every lock there is to pick
Lady Killer
Collect me some junk (everything pretty much not bolted down or on fire![]()
)
Edit: oh, and hell to the yeah on a sprint function...(maybe at the cost of APs)
Bethesda is probably trying to distance themselves from anything Obsidian did with New Vegas.
Do not expect weapon mods, decent crafting, or even a "Hardcore" mode.

That would be a rather stupid move since New Vegas was a much better game compared to Fallout 3.
But then again this is the company that is trying to implement a paid modding system so they can get free money and claim to be DRM free despite the fact that all there games now require Steamworks DRM to operate.

They don't think so.

Just because of pride? They would be abit stupid not to learn from some of the things that New Vegas did better.

I agree, there were too many gold nuggets in NV to just flush. That would be extremely stupid, since it (NV) was so well recieved by the FO player base. That doesn't mean they won't, but it would really be stupid.

Hold up. How did the Tunnel Snakes get their leather jackets? I mean we're they put there on purpose like an experiment or did Vault-Tec put them there because Tunnel Snakes rule!?

Uh, duh. It's obviously because they're the Tunnel Snakes. That's them. And they rule... rule.... r-r-rule!!!

I guess we'll see when we see, but I agree - there was lots of things done very well with NV. FO3 was Oblivion with guns, so if FO4 is Skyrim with guns, it wouldn't be the end of the world... but it would be nice if it was more of a continuation of where the series was built with NV rather than just adapting the Bethesda formula to the Fallout universe again.

Everyone speculating about potentionally missing features in the game, hold your horses. If the graphics are any indicator, the game is still running on a beefed up Gamebryo engine, plus they already said they want to incorporate modding from the get-go.
Half the features NV had that FO3 didn't came straight from mods, so you can bet your bottlecaps that whatever you hope returns, will do so in some way or the other.

I hope you can appreciate that the majority of people who will buy the game will do so on console, where modding is not an option (for the most part, especially starting out). So while the speculation is not founded, the fear that it is true is valid.

Aye, hadn't considered consoles. I somehow had it in my mind that FO4 was PC exclusive, got that mixed up with other recently announced games. My bad.

No worries! I am one of the PC devout, but I cannot shake my former shameful life of console sin.

I dunno, personally I think Fallout 4 would be much better if they just with a reboot and set the game in the distant future 2010 with a soundtrack from the 70s/80s, the 1950s theme just doesn't do it for me.

Part of why I always run solo (aside from companions utterly ruining stealth-type gameplay) is because it makes combat boringly easy.
Yeah, even with the passive mode in FO:NV, the companions sometimes screwed things up when I was trying to sneak past somebody or otherwise avoid combat, especially since I play my characters as only shooting at enemies in self-defense. I'd recruit some of them to do their personal quests, but then I'd usually part ways politely.
As for dogs and other potential pets, I'd like to have the option to treat them like actual pets - i.e. have them stay wherever you're living with an occasional funny scene or dialogue choice when you come back - as opposed to combat companions. Taking dogs into combat against some of the enemies in Fallout always seemed kind of ridiculous to me.
