So do we get a preset surname, but get voiced first names?
My NV guy had the best Fallout name ever (not really)... I kind of want to recreate him.
i just name all my characters Joe....

You can name your character whatever you want. They just recorded some of the most popular names that the Mr Handy can say. I think it is about a 1000 names? 500 for female and 500 for male.
They'd easily have the first name I'd pick ("Roy").
So there are no surnames? Mr Handy gets a surname damnit.

Cool. Three letters is all that's needed.
I hope I can name mine Booker
For roleplaying reasons.

hey my real name is two letters so three feels like a luxury ![]()

Not sure if there are surnames. The lone wanderer didn't have one, did he/she? Though they were born in the Wasteland.

I don't remember. The Courier did. Or could.

they didnt have one in the story but nothing stopped you from giving them one
Not sure what name I will use.
Did you even talk to the Brotherhood in FO3? It's made pretty clear this is a splinter group that the WC Brotherhood has all but disassociated with and the ones loyal to the original cause want no part of.
I got my name already, always use it for a female character. I am actually starting to think that this story is just the reverse of Fallout 3. Instead of beeing a son/daughter looking for your father. You're a mother/father looking for your child. Plot twist!
This is worth pointing out - the highest selling, widest appeal, most successful RPG of all time was a game with no cinematics and no voiced protagonist (Skyrim) despite vibrant is and voiced protag being much more expensive to make and difficult to implement.
you know, this time i might go with Joe Bob for that ultimate redneck experience

And if it's a redneck chick, just call her Bobbie Jo.
I'll call my first character Generic Lead, and make him a white bald guy who cross dresses and beats people up with hammers.
In all the hub-bub over the last few days, I forgot to notice; has anyone seen a sprint capability?
In the Specials menu from the E3 demo it says on Endurance that it will cover sprint. I'll write it down as said.
"Endurance is a measure of your overall physical fitness. It affects your total health and the action point drain from sprinting"
Wasn't really suprised to see it make it into the game. After all Skyrim had it and it has been a mod for more or less every Bethesda game.

I name mine Jon and variations thereof, so I'm probably covered.

YESS!!!!!
That's another want I can check off my list. There's a slot I won't have to take up in my mod load order. ![]()
Yes!! This added a lot to the role play. I hope they took things from New Vegas, and not just Fallout 3.
Agreed, with the exception of only healing from sleep in a bed that you "own," which seemed kind of random and annoying. Especially since, as far as I can remember, the only option you have to own a bed outside of the Strip or the hideouts that the factions give you was a hotel room in Novac.
I believe the voiced first name is only for the baby.
Speaking of which, given that 200 years have passed and they were not in Vault 111 which is the place with technology capable of keeping someone alive for that long, I'd say the chances of us finding our family are slim indeed.
I'm guessing we'll get some twist where we'll discover our son was the founder of enemies we're fighting or something similar.
I hope I can name mine Booker

Rhys for me ![]()
Edit: What are the odds Leng will be an option? ![]()

How about healing from sleep, period? If I have a broken leg, one hour of sleep isn't going to fix it.
If I had my way, you'd have to visit a doctor to heal completely unless you have supplies and Medicine skill. The higher your skill, the less supplies you require.

if its only on hardcore i wouldnt mind but keep that out of my easy mode ![]()
Going to use the default name. Since the game has autodialogue, it won't be my character anyway.
