Morrowind's story was a giant fetch quest...
Fetch quest stories can be good sometimes. New vegas for example. Apparently the Witcher 3 handles this well too though I haven't played it yet.

Daggerfall and Morrowind where good, but Oblivion and on has had the same pattern, horrible main story, good dlc and side quests.
I loved Morrowind but it feels at times that the game can get a bit too restricting and showy for its own good. Especially so for the mid-late main quest.
"Yes, YES! Look at our beautiful, bizarre, polygon-rendered game world in awe! Do all of these pointless Ashlander fetch quests! Travel across routes you've already been to. No limitless running or silt striders for you. Also, have fun shaking off those cliff racer stacks."

New Vegas story wasn't a giant fetch quest. It may have had a few in it, but it most certainly was not a giant fetch quest. And the Witcher 3 is cinematic. Pretty much everything that happens in it will be important in someway because all actions convey character. The Witcher 3 also isn't a giant fetch, quest, so.
With Morrowind, however, it was literally all we did. Go get this. Come back. Now go get this. Come back. Go cure this. Come back. Go get this. Hit that. The dlc stories were much better. As ES is wont to do. A lot of New Vegas' dlc stories were also better, imo, and it doesn't hurt that they helped the main story. Just like the ones in ES.
The beauty of Morrowind's main quest was that it never felt important enough for me to do and it never felt obsolete enough for me to totally ignore.
It was just one of the other happenings in the land of Vardenfell.

Wow I never knew Morrowind was that bad with it. Oh well.

The Main Quest was abit of a mislead though. If you commit to a faction, you can never truly join it and they make you run errands to meet with others which they can't be bothered to send an Ambassador to or atleast an entourage with you. "Yes hello i am a representative for The NCR, but i am just a freelancer." It just doesn't work for me. If you are aiming to take New Vegas for yourself however, then it works.

House treats you as his second in command.

With House it makes sense since you are the only person to ever meet him and have gotten pretty famous because of it. The NCR and Legion could have done with their own companions though. Would have been interesting to go with a member of the legion to all the different groups.

I always like to think that an NCR Courier became a Ranger soon after getting their medal.

Ulysses (spelling) was originally going to be a companion and he was sided with the Legion.

See I had feeling that it would have been cut content again but I didn't want to make assumptions. It seems I should have.

I would hope so, i went through hell to gain that victory. I love the mod that adds more traits and you can pick ranger and start with a big iron. Big Iron on his hip!

I read an interview on it a while back. I don't remember the exact details, but it basically boiled down to Obsidian wanting to be able to handle the character in a proper way (I also think that they didn't have enough time to properly implement him, but I won't swear to it).

Obsidian seems to be the kings of getting fucked over.

His cut caused alot of things to be re-written along with alot of recoding too. The duster you get at the end of the dlc(which hast he faction you're helping) was to be his armor change after his quest.
Even Obsidian's DLC got shafted? No wonder they went kickstarter with POE.

Well that explains why the Legion line is so disappointing. I mean it was obvious the route has a lot of cuts but it's hard the believe it was something so huge.

No, none of their dlc got shafted, Ulysses tho was meant to be part of the base game and a vanilla companion. Something happened that forced them to cut him so they decided to have him the focus of their dlc story arc.
However his background and such was the same and he would have been more of a Legion supporter, but his "flag" so to speak he would serve would be at last set in stone at the end of quest(and his dusters flag would show that)

I'm still glad that you can change his views and loyalties in Lonesome Road, god that ending was great.

Yup, they still kept alot of their ideas for him in the dlc, it's just now a dlc story arc for him, which was very exciting.
I think Ulysses was perfect as this sort of enigmatic, alluded-to, distant figure with a huge f-in chip (no pun intended) on his shoulder, dogging Courier 6 throughout the game. If anything that part could have been stronger in the main game.
The showdown, and decision to be made, in LR was perfect...I could go on...I won't.
The DLCs for NV were by far the best, most well-thought DLCs I've ever played. They are better, each one, than most AAA-developed main games...oh, imo.
EDIT: You feel his seething anger throughout...and then, playing you're cards right, fight right along side him...if you're cool! ![]()
EDIT 2: You can tell it was Chirs Avellone's baby. If only Bethesda were smart enough to hire the SOB. OK I'll stop now.
Yeah, the only part I miss was how Ulysses was supposed to talk about how the Courier was becoming a sort of legendary figure, and how they would become something like the Lanius of the Mojave, or the NCR.

Yeah I loved how DM and HH mentioned him vaguely, then in OBW you hear about him again andt hen bam, you hear his voice at last in a holotape and just hnnng. Then LR starts and the conversations with him where fantastic.
Dead Money was okay, Honest Hearts was (so far) okay and Lonesome Road and Old World Blues were among the best DLCs I've played.
