I haven't really been keeping up with this game's announcements so far, but I thought that you started the game with a spouse and a child, no?  So my understanding was that they had predetermined the PC to be straight and married with child.  Is that not correct?

I'm asking because it seems like the romance discussion would be moot if that's the point.  Unless the spouse meets some unfortunate end?

Maybe this has all been discussed already and I'm being lazy and didn't look for it.  How far off is my understanding on these points?

We're not sure what is going on exactly with the Lone Survivor (?) ...maybe the family is dead , missing , some speculate we may be android (And if we are I want some romance with some sexbot joke)

I don't feel like there's going to be romances in FO4, but hey you never know.

I hope there's some flirt options though , I enjoyed playing some flirty courier who actually never managed to get laid .

Well except with sexbot and prostitutes.

Well, I'm not sure it qualifies as "unfortunate end," but given your spouse will need to be 270+ years old if they are still alive when you leave the vault, they'd be one hell of a cougar/sugar daddy.

I know the game calls you the "sole survivor", but really, I don't see anything else pushing the protagonist foward at the start of the story if not an quest for them to find their family. So most likely, the spouse and baby will be missing from the vault, and the protagonist will assume they also were put to cryo sleep.

Unless your "spouse" is a killer assassin android and programming you with memories of a pre-war romance to make sure you chase after them and save them in case they are unable to complete their assigned murder task...?!

Something tells me you are going to be REEALLY disappointed if the protagonist is just a human, eh?

Well, probably not, no. I will be giddy as a school girl if it turns out we are an android, though.

You may be happy, but the 90% remainder of the gamers would be disappointed. Bethesda knows this and that's why you won't have your android. :wizard:

Since you gave me the idea, I will open a poll.

I believe the counter-argument is that you might well be an android with false memories, but yes, otherwise it looks like you're locked into being at straight or bi and in an M/F relationship. With a child. And presumably a family person.

I provided an alternative interpretation of the family on page 70, post #1744;

Homosexuality - As homosexuality is socially unacceptable to put it mildly, you and a friend decided to marry to avoid suspicion falling on you or the both of you. You've adopted a child together as well.

Wild Wasteland - You and your partner are shapeshifters hence why you have the ability to alter your appearance simply by looking into reflective surfaces.

Basically an interpretation that I thought would allow roleplaying as a homosexual character without creating contradictions with the prologue.

Bethesda came up with a number of Fallout 4 Multiplayer concepts in pre-development. I'm glad they are keeping the multiplayer out of my RPG.

Distracting is the perfect word. So glad they didn't go this route.

Todd Howard also had some comments on the multiplayer rumors at E3. Mainly that they wanted to try it, but they are better at the single player experiences and will always be focusing on that over anything else. So i like that. I don't want MP in everything.

I honestly feel that MP in DA:I led to some of the decision changes that made me not buy it. Despite bringing back the Tac cam, the game seemed overly focused on control of one character instead of managing a party, especially focusing on gamepad reflex/timing controls. Looking at its MP mode, this is exactly what that game mode is, so I can't help but feel it's development bad influence on the SP campaign and how it was designed mechanically.

On Fallout 4? or Fallout in general? I don't think it will happen to be honest.

"Forced into the closet" is not really what most people are looking for in their experience. But I'd wager they'd have too much actual love to make that work.

Oh god, please no. Multiplayer is bad enough. We don't need a MMO taiting the franchise.

I think once you go down the road of MP (de)evolving into a cash flow device, the overall game design naturally follows. Traditionally good multiplayer games like HALO or GOW or the like, have an overall MP gameplay design that works well for their SP campaigns. "Artists" formally known as RPG developers probably struggle with such concepts....not necessarily in the quality of their MP mind you, but how much the quality of their SP experience will suffer because of it.

Bethesda made a good decision.

Aha, i hope Obsidian sticks with Pillars of Eternity and make it into a great franchise that really caters to the isometric rpg fans and invite new ones to play aswell. That is just me though.

Agreed. RPGs are typically based on stat-driven combat, while MP is typically based on reflex combat. ME with MP was primarily the same experience, since the series always invovled controlling a single character and aiming your weapon in a manner that involves reflex and player skill. Dragon Age, on the other hand, was more of a "pure" RPG, where swinging your sword was a dice roll, not the aiming of the sword in relation to your enemies position.

To add in a MP experience, they needed to juice up the combat, focusing more on the action experience of controlling one character during combat, since that was what the entire MP mode was based off of. Consequently, the portion of the game involving controlling your party was scaled back for my tastes.

Doubt it, they already have ESO. I don't see why they'd want to potentially divide their market share. Keeping an MMO up and running requires money, and I think it's probably safer to have one than two.
