Based on that novel I haven't yet read but really ought to comes a new scifi flick from Ridley Scott that might just do the red planet justice. I'm talking about "The Martian," where Matt Damon (Dr. Mann!!!) plays Mark Watney, an astronaut left for dead on Mars after something goes wrong with the mission. Since he's clearly not dead (or otherwise we wouldn't have a movie) Watney will have to find a way to contact NASA and stay alive long enough for someone to come get him. As Watney himself puts it, he must "science the s*** out of this."

I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to this movie. It looks as if Damon's getting another shot at space after Interstellar and he'll be playing a MacGyver-esque character. Whether or not the science will hold is a different matter. Another actress who's getting a second shot at space is Jessica Chastain who's playing Melissa Lewis, mission commander. Sebastian Stan (Captain America), Beth Johanssen (House of Cards), Jeff Daniels, and Sean Bean, are also part of this promising lineup, among others.

"The Martian," based on the novel by Andy Weir, releases November 25th October 2nd, 2015.

PS: I don't think Sean Bean dies in this one.

The novel is effing brilliant. I'm not so sure on a movie version though, won't be able to capture even half of it. I would strongly recommend the book though. It wasn't written until around 2010.

fun, we have to think of those poor monkey strippers. I could make a terribad  joke right now about needing a monkey stripper right now. but I won't.

I love that little stamp of "Scientific Authenticity" at the start.

He died inside, and that's what counts.

Trailers pretty good actually.  A few parts quickly stood out as being not that believable but it set the tension bar up pretty good.

I haven't read the book, but the trailer at least makes the film look interesting. The parts where we can see Mars also look great.

Nah, John Hurt is still the one who holds the title for most onscreen deaths. Sean Bean is like fourth behind John, Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price. :D
