This is NOT to start a gender war.  My question is, will they focus marketing on the male character or female character?  Personally, I think they should do something similar to ME3, and market both.

Perhaps having alternative box art (like ME3) having the option of having either male or female on cover by just flipping over the box art.

Bioware will go with the male character. Heh, I think it is funny how Bioware is considered the progressive developer when it comes to social issues and yet they still feature male character's as their marketing strategy. I would like to see Bioware use a female or non-white male as the lead marketing character, but we all know that won't happen.

My first playthrough will be with a female however.

At least this isn't in the twitter thread!!!. I couldn't care less how the game is marketed in terms of a gendered hero. I don't care whether or not they even market a face. Whatever sells the most units.

My first playthrough will be as a male and my first playthrough will probably be the save import I'll take into "ME5."  But I like playing as both genders, even though there's not much difference to the story or even perspective.  Just on who you romance... And he now being she...

Don't care. Just as long as I feel at home with the content of the game (I'm male, if the avatar didn't give it away).

Considering the size of EA, I think they will go with something that will have a broad appeal. Namely man-with-gun.

Consider how even smaller publishers like 2K had Bioshock Infinite feature booker with a gun instead of Elizabeth (the main focal point of the plot). It's not hard to imagine where I am coming from.

I should add one other thing..

I don't think marketing matters that much. You're especially not going to change the core demographic of TPS and FPS genres with a commercial.

Although I'd be willing to see how a Female image would change things. People think if they marketed Mass Effect differently, then there would've been more Femshep players (last time I checked it was 18% or something?). Lets test that theory. Or rather, lets see if EA is willing to test that theory out. Maybe they can afford it.

I don't understand why people care about how something is marketed. I ignore marketing 90% of the time, and it has virtually no impact on what I buy.

This would've made for a great box cover, and it's entirely neutral.

Clearly a guy. No boob armor. :P

I hope we get to see flocks of birds/bats like that in the game.

Well, male is generally felt to be a safer bet from a marketing stance. Both genders will probably be marketed, but I think male will receive more of that attention.

In fairness, Booker is the main character, so it makes sense for him to be on the cover.

Yoi bring up a good point. If you just go by the Bioware community, you would think that female Shepard was the most popular character but stats show that only 18% of those who completed ME3 did so with female Shepard.

Yeah not too many of my friends that I know of, or Mass Effect streamers that I watch play FemShep.

I don't think marketing will get more males playing a female character.

I'd love to see them Market the female character for a change.  I'd love to see them market a non-white character for a change.  I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of either of these happening, but it would be nice.

Instead, we'll get all of the marketing focused on a fairly good looking, but poorly groomed white guy, whom I'll promptly ignore when I get into the character creator in favor of a custom female with a buzz cut.

Trailers: Male and switch to Female here and there. (Like DA:I)

Gameplays: Male and Female. (Also like DA:I)

Box cover: Reversible cover with Default Male on one side and Default Female on the other (Like ME3)

I'll probably be doing the exact same thing. My cannon Shepard had a buzz cut :)

They didn't really set out to make a straight up white guy before. They picked Vanderloo because they thought he had a mixed European look specifically. That happens to be white, but it's more specific than that. But I think they tried to show mixing all around. Ashley was supposed to be part Hispanic.. Kaidan, I don't know. The name is Ukrainian, so he's kind of got Asian and Euro features. Anderson always struck me as part native American and African, but that's just my guess.

David Anderson is a black male.  And yes I loved that Mass Effect had different races, and characters of all colors.  Sometimes when I roleplay in my ME playthroughs, I'd like to believe Anderson a part of my Shepard's lineage ...

Scratch that, I'm going by the book, when Grissom meets him. He's described as black, but Grissom thought he had traces of Native American as well.

As long as we still have a character creator, I don't care in the slightest what they do marketing-wise.

But if we are making predictions, my guess is that trailers will be mostly male, while gameplay videos will be mostly female, since that's what they did for DAI.
