I'm not sure like NWN is a positive. Remember the reception of that game back in the day? Sure, it had a core dedicated group of MP lovers and a separate group that loved modules but I'm not sure who the target fans of it are supposed to be this time around.
I just don't think P&P MP is all that popular. Certainly a game that evokes "single player like NWN" is a must not buy for me. Maybe if it was like HoTU... but that was notable for how not like a D&D MP game it was like vs vanilla NWN.
In theory, it's supposed to appeal to D&D fans while being a good game and drawing in new fans.
The "MP" tools are designed for small groups of four or five players and a DM, not 20 MP death matches or MMOs. The stated goal is to replicate the tabletop experience in a video game structure.
We don't know a lot about the tools now, but we do know it is intended to allow both creation of NWN-like modules, while ALSO allowing customization by the DM on the fly. This is just like tabletop, where a DM can buy or use a previously created campaign module and tweak it or build a camapign themselves and guide players through it.
There is a SP camapign and it is a big focus for the SCL team. Again, I'll work on revinvng and updating my thread once there is some honest-to-God actual updates from when the game was first introduced this winter.
