It's called a release cycle. Inquisition is in the end phase of its release; there's some more DLC to come out over the course of the year, and that's probably it. A lot of development resources have already been moved on to future games; once everything is out and done, the core DA team will fully move on to the next game.

Meanwhile, Bioware's next release has entered the promotion phase; work has progressed to the point where they're ready to start showing stuff off to whet people's appetites. Of course more promotion resources are going to be put into that. Two years from now, when Mass Effect: Andromeda is in its post-release phase, promotional resources will move on to whatever game comes after that (maybe DA4, maybe the new IP, who knows).

It's the circle of life.

I'd say we can expect 1-2 more DLC and that is all.

I imagine 1 of them will be very significant in size/story/importantance

I hope we get at least that, because they had more than that planned for DA2, their "biggest failure", and this is apparently their "best launch." I need more story :(

Edit: Just wanted to clarify that those are how they themselves described those games, so I added quotation marks.

We saw that Pillars of Eternity will get expansion.

And nothing about DAI.

I am happy and sad.

Yes, that will happen when your game releases in November. It's called a "calendar". And also "not being stupid by refusing to draw in as many customers as possible during the biggest shopping season of the year".

If your game is successful, you are trying to keep the original price of your newly released game and abuse the fact that people are more eager to part with their money during holiday season ... if not, you go %35 off.

Your parents have explained to you that wanting a thing to be true doesn't make it true, right?

35% off, is what the game should actually cost at full price.  70 dollars for a game, lawlgoodtry.

Bought one full price game this year, barely touched it, not anymore.

Best launch is very different that best selling overall. Most games sell the best at launch, and dwindle fast afterwards. Publishers seem to only care about how a game does at launch; how many pre-orders it has, similar to movies on how much they made on opening weekend. I'm not saying I like the over-emphasis on pre-orders, as it discourages a bug-free, polished game, but it's how it is.

Then maybe the industry is broken and low budget indies and mobile games are going to overthrow big budget releases like Dragon Age or Mass Effect. With traditional publishing houses like Sega or Konami moving to mobile, you may argue it already started.

Few games do manage to keep the price high for at least few months even today. Its getting rare, but putting game on sale this soon after launch and during holiday season is IMO bad sign.
Anyway, with DLCs total sales and active players are important.

Which is why it's important to keep players hyped between DLC releases. A standard and cost-efficient way to do that is to simply announce a DLC somewhat early, then release hints and eventually a trailer. I don't know why Bioware is insisting on letting us know about DLCs when they're out, or that they'll be out the next day. Building hype (although it's dangerous for fans sometimes) is a basic marketing tactic, so it's odd they aren't doing much of it.

Things like the Black Emporium are good ways to get people playing between DLCs, and I think if they released a few more (cheap or free) packs with more hair, outfits, weapons, etc. more people would hang on til the next big DLC. It also creates goodwill when they listen to requests (like with the BE and armour tinting).

Remind me how much was the Witcher 3 discount (and that PC game).
