Maybe they'll start a project together! :o

No...

No, no, no, no...

THIS was a better idea than what you are suggesting:

Sad news but Avellone probably misses having a larger role in actual game design and writing. It was a great pity the wasn't the lead writer of PoE. There are some indications that he wasn't happy with the final treatment of the characters he wrote for PoE.

I also heard from people (incl. Angry Joe) that PoE's actual main story wasn't terribly interesting. That's a first for Avellone & Co.

It took a while to pick up any steam. It was mostly "Pillars of Side Quests" until Act 3 when all the interesting stuff came up, and some features were really underwhelming (e.g. the stronghold). But the characters were all wonderful and the world had very interesting small scale stories.

It was also relatively preachy, and involves the same unfortunate religious themes as MoTB.

I really liked his work on KOTOR 2, he's possibly one the best if not the best writer in the video game industry.

I'm pretty sure Avellone was only credited for part of two characters (Durance and Grieving Mother).

Not some of their best work tbh. It was really bland. I liked the mechanics and reactivity of it though, they did it well there. My only problem is when you meet someone for the first time and they say something pertaining to your personality. I'm like how do you know i'm benevolent when we haven't even met before?

They're obviously psychic, and news apparently travels faster than it would IRL. Ah, good ol' Eternitybook. Or is it FacePillars?

I'm not sure I'd like the lighter and softer Berserk Chris Avelone would write.

Chris Avellone confirmed to work with Gen Urobuchi.

Now that would be a team-up.

There aren't enough Yare Yare's for this. Let's hope he continues with the gaming industry.

Better yet... go to Broadway and write "Baldur's Gate... THE MUSICAL!"

I think lighter and softer would have to be sort of compulsory.

Berserk is some of the darkest stuff around.

However if you're talking themes... that's a different story.

PST deals with pretty depressing stuff to begin with, and Berserk is just depressing all the way 'round.

So sure, except for one particular scene that CANNOT be changed for ANYTHING because it'd destroy a lot for what's going for the story

Spoiler

Then I think he could cut out some other things and still keep it faithful to the series.

But Berserk without its extremes isn't Berserk at all.

I was mostly just making a joke that for all of Avellone's reputation in RPG circle's for a darker take on fantasy, he's essentially written Disney movies in comparison to the truly grimdark, crapsack world of Bersk. A world so dark that the author has to take breaks to maintain sanity.

That being said I do agree that PS:T captured dark themes, just not in so visceral a way as Bersek (it was also a bit more philosophical).

So... all joking and side conversations aside - has anyone heard where he is going?

He can now go where he can do more damage and where it's worth doing it.

Oh In Exile, you do love being modest.

A super tag-team doesn't always necessarily work out as intended. Shadows of the Damned (Suda51, Shinji Mikami & Akira Yamaoka)
was decent but not really an a-effort as one could expect of an awesome line-up like that.

wouldn't it be awesome if Chris went to Bethesda so he could finally release his Project Van Buren as the next Fallout, or a Fallout 4 DLC?

random comment I saw on the codex

Chris Avellone will team up with Hideo Kojima and they'll both do that super-meta-self-aware deconstructionist video game/movie walking simulator they both always wanted. Probably Ken Levine will join in as well, with Grant Morrison as a guest writer. I can see the pitch already

YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS A STEALTHY SPY/ASSASSIN GAME SET IN SPACE? THINK AGAIN! YOU ARE ACTUALLY NOT STEALTHY AT ALL AND YOU ARE THE VILLAIN AND YOUR SPACESHIP REPRESENTS YOUR REPRESSED CHILDHOOD TRAUMA WITH THAT UNCLE OF YOURS. ALSO YOUR WISECRACKING ALIEN BUDDY USED TO BE A SERIAL KILLER FROM AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION WHO HAS AMNESIA. ALSO YOU HAVE AMNESIA AS WELL AND WHEN YOU DIE YOU GET REINCARNATED SO YOU NEVER DIE BECAUSE THE GAME IS AWARE YOU ARE PLAYING IT!
