random comment I saw on the codex

"YOU THOUGHT THIS WAS A STEALTHY SPY/ASSASSIN GAME SET IN SPACE? THINK AGAIN! YOU ARE ACTUALLY NOT STEALTHY AT ALL AND YOU ARE THE VILLAIN AND YOUR SPACESHIP REPRESENTS YOUR REPRESSED CHILDHOOD TRAUMA WITH THAT UNCLE OF YOURS. ALSO YOUR WISECRACKING ALIEN BUDDY USED TO BE A SERIAL KILLER FROM AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION WHO HAS AMNESIA. ALSO YOU HAVE AMNESIA AS WELL AND WHEN YOU DIE YOU GET REINCARNATED SO YOU NEVER DIE BECAUSE THE GAME IS AWARE YOU ARE PLAYING IT!"

As long as they do it in the context of Wasteland's create-your-own party style game, well, it'll be a total waste of a good idea. Pun... sort of intended?

That's the only cool thing I've seen come out of that place.

The only comment from Obsidian I've seen:

Doesn't sound amicable, no well wishes for Chris in contrast to his goodbye messages.

The message is so generic that it's almost certain that it wasn't amicable and he may well have been pushed out.

I hope we have Obsidians version of Fallout after 4 is released.

Definitely not amicable. Sounds like Chris wanted to try fresh pastures.

He is responsible for PoE awfulness as much as the entire Obsidian, so I'm not going to say "hurray" for any of both sides.

Really? They even said that they wish him the best.

I'm sure they're not jumping up and down about it, but it doesn't drip with insincerity, either.

If he left the industry for good it will be a great loss for us all like what Jon Van Caneghem did.

^ Agreed there completely. Jon made all the M&M games I love. Now that ever-present urge to replay the Xeen games strikes again. :P

That fellow was top dog. What he did with the Might and Magic series was fantastic. Too bad Ubisoft is destroying that franchise.

In case you folks don't read RPS comments. Can't help it, but it's just so funny.

He didn’t actually mean to leave, there was a bug in his pathfinding AI. Sources within Obsidian said that he clipped through a wall before flying off into the sunset, and that Avellone was “our most polished release yet”.

He's since said he'll likely never leave the game writing profession, so I think we're safe there.

My favorites are Day of the Destroyer and For Blood and Honor. When I discovered the older games, they were too archaic for may taste. But M&M VI and later games are my type of games.

Mandate of Heaven is probably still my favorite as a whole but I know nostalgia plays a big part in my love for IV and how neat it was that it was made of two games to create the whole world. Never did pick up IX though, maybe I'll give it a shot at some point but I know Job didn't work on it so it's kind of up in the air whether I'll enjoy it.

One of my first RPG or pseudo-RPGs(!) was M&M IX. I've finished it about 6 times!

The plot/story is kinda good. The land and map are very good, I really like its cities, places and dungeons. The influential characters could be more "influential".

Its worst parts is Graphics. I didn't find its gameplay bad, and classes and inventories are good enough and interesting.

Give it a try, it's a 6-7/10 game.
