but for me, I found out that the 25% bonus that hvb gives on valkyrie sentinel doesn't add that much more damage. on the other hand, the faster cooldown by using shredder mod is significant when you're in a pickle (phantoms, hunters, dragoons, etc) so just equip that instead. ofc, this is all assuming you're using incendiary ammo. if you want to avoid cheesing, then just use extended barrrel with ap ammo 4 will do the most damage for reegar, including the collectors.

I had a feeling that was the case. I am using IA.

Is the damage bonus that the HVB gives the Reegar even worth the weight?
Yep. But you should be using a real shotgun like the Raider or Venom anyways.

My lack of a Venom after 6 months of playing that DLC is one of the reasons I retired. Though I'm planning on coming back this weekend.

so the facemelter isn't a real shotgun but the weak no aim machine is?

Well, obviously... I'm not sure wtf the Reegar actually is, but its not really a shotgun.

The Reegar is a Death Ray and the Venom is a Grenade Launcher. So? They are both under "Shotguns" in the weapon selection screen. So they get called shotguns.

Because there isn't a weapon category for "silly abominations", so they call the Reegar a shotgun. Could as easily have called it a pistol, or an assault rifle, would have made just about as much sense.

Forget about the n00b lol-Reegar, only shotgun worth mentioning is the Claymore - bow before it!

If they had such a category, it could go right next to that Salarian grenade launcher that is also erroneously called a shotgun. Or the sniper rifle that is actually a fully automatic machine gun, or the assault rifles that are also a laser death ray, portable minigun, grenade launcher etc. It's a short range, high DPS gun with a cone pattern, ergo "shotgun" I guess.
Not that I'm saying the Reegar isn't brokenly OP, but I don't understand how the Venom isn't. The former trivializes armored bosses, the latter trivializes all humanoids including sub bosses like Phantoms, and further it doesn't even have the range limitations of the former. It even has AOE so you barely even have to point it in the right direction, just aim at your feet. Not much room for moral highground there.

This is BSN for you. Ask a simple and straightforward question, be treated to several replies that are just complaining about ... eh, I can't tell what they're complaining about. But the tears are enough to feed a medium sized family for a decade ![]()

Shotguns=boom sticks. Venom makes something resembling a boom. You're overthinking this.

The whole "Venom doesn't require aim" bit sort of makes sense, until you actually use it, or note how frequently people have complained about not being able to use it effectively. And in any case, you're mistaking the "moral highground" the Venom occupies here- which has little to do with whats "OP" and more to do with the fact that if you're looking for the satisfaction of using a shotgun, you're looking for something that makes a loud noise and rips enemies to kibbles and bits. While Venom obviously doesn't satisfy the latter condition, I'd say that sending enemies ragdolling all over the map is a fairly satisfying substitute. The Reegar just isn't much fun (although it certainly doesn't help that it completely trivializes everything in the game, far more so than any other weapon including Venom, Harrier, etc)... I mean, what do you even call the noise it makes? A hiss? A gurgle?

Subjectively I don't like the Venom's ragdolls more than the Reegar's screaming facemelt animations. Of course, neither is as visceral as the boom and melon chunks you get from a Claymoar or Raider, but few things in this game are.

I'm thinking the best option is to forgo spare ammo. This will give me both the damage and armor piercing, and I should be able to get ammo at ammo boxes anyway.

I rarely play the Reegar except on maybe the Jugg as a side arm. I prefer the Talon or Raider on the Valkyrie, also Claymore. However, if I was to play it, I would definitely use the ammo clip. It runs dry way too fast even with the clip. Or else set up camp at an ammo box. To employ this "shotgun," you must be in the enemy's face and you won't be if you are always running for ammo.
