Spoils of the Avvar

The images on the official reveal site are very small and don't really show much. The only thing I could make out was Cassandra wearing that topless-with-paint kind of armor we already saw in the game.
Has anyone bought the pack yet and could share some high-res images?

The Armor of Spoils of the Avvar:
Avvar- Rüstung: (Avvar-Armor? *)
Steinbären-Rüstung: (Stonebear-Armor? *)
Both armors are medium armors with no class, nor race restriction. You'll get three schematics for each armor (tier 1, 2 and 3) tho they will not unlock if your level is too low. (I only got tier 1 and 2 because of my level)
The Mounts of Spoils of the Avvar:
Frostgipfel-Gebirgspferd: (Frostback-Mountainhorse? *)
Berg-Drakolisk: (Mountain Dracolisk? *)
Erhabener Frostgipfel-Elch: (Exalted Frostback-Elk? *)
Avvar-Kriegsnug: (Avvar-Battle-Nug? *)
Eidgebundenes Ross: (Oath-Bound Steed? *)
All mounts are available at the stable at once.
* I play in German, so I had to guess the english names. I'm gonna correct them when I know their official names.

So I am assuming no weapons, also the armor rating is kinda.... poopy?

No, weapons, no, but those are Lvl 3 armors (uncrafted) so they're not good on Lvl 15 charas. You get schematics (tier 1 - 3) so you can make better armor yourself.

I have the Spoils of the Avvar too. The armour design is not bad, but it looks weird without the matching facial warpaint when I equip it on my Inquisitor. The mounts however are cool. I like the Avvar dracolisk and halla.

I have never understood why devs can't nail down decent looking armour, yet modders can. I'm being honest here, those armours look hideous, especially when you consider they're premium armours. I mean, just how difficult is it for the likes of BioWare, Bethesda etc to design awesome looking armours and weapons when modders have no problem creating good looking armour and weapons?
I get those armours are meant to represent the climate where they originated from, but come on, both look worse than what we already have and that's no complement to the armours we already have.

I also just realized that the armors are already in-game, but uncraftable. The five available mounts are reskins of existing ones.
It's great that we get new armors (thanks for the pictures, Gilli-chan!), but 5€ just for making content that's not even new available for us? I don't quite get it, as the Black Emporium for example was free.

I think the content looks really nice, especially the "Steinbären-Rüstung".

Did you go to the Undercroft? The schemantics are in the Special Delivery Chest.

Thanks for the screenshots. That stuff is as ugly as can be.

I didn't even like the way the weapons look from the JoH dlc. Looking at these armors doesn't exactly do it for me either. Mounts look interesting. Not enough to replace my Dalish-All Bred or Imperial Warmblood.

The armors are not completely terrible but the war paint armors definitely need face paint too. I do hate when they just reskin models like the 5 mounts. $4.99 just for the novelty of it is not worth it but when you play on a console it's all you have. ![]()
I'm getting a kick out of seeing Solas dressed like the Augur.

I made it work with Sera sans face paint...

I still don't understand how half the Avvar in the Basin are bare chested and the other half are dressed in a ridiculous amount of layers. Not sure if Sera is freezing above or Cassandra is sweating below.

I haven't bought it yet. I was talking how those armors can already be seen in-game (main game + JoH) but aren't available for us yet.
@Thread: The winter coat armor looks really nice to me. Protective and warm for cold regions like Haven/Skyhold.

Pixelated boobs aside, the armour still looks bad. Look at Solas, he looks like he's eaten all the pies and don't get me started on the black and white armour Cass is sporting. It's easily one of the worst looking armours in the game.

A modder (not me!) did some playing around with the files and gave her Inquisitor the Avvar face paint to match the paint body armor. I thought the results were cool, and thought I'd share a couple shots of the result:

I would totally love to try this...though I have no clue how to go about doing it. I assume if you are replacing a face texture that means that it can't simply be equipped/unequipped like armor?

Right, you'd basically be replacing a face texture for the whole game. In this case, she replaced the Inquisitor's face texture, which is shared by only one or two other NPCs (like the elf who wakes you up in the prologue after you try to close the Breach the first time). There's no mod, per se, at this time, just more a fast complexion swap.

Which is still something I'd have no clue how to do. ![]()
If I could get directions I could probably install the modding tool to do it just so I could get some nice high-rez screenies to post.

All right, I asked the modder, and she said that she had to change the paint color (from blue to black) and also remove the blush on the Inquisitor because it showed through the paint. In other waords, it's not a straightforward swap, and some Photoshopping was involved.

They really should add that face paint in next time they release a patch. Makes the armour so much better and considering the price of the dlc, it should have come with it without needing to be patched in.
As things stand, the armour looks ridiculous.

The problem arises in that it's a face texture, not a helmet. The code can't make a helmet into a face texture or vice versa, and there's no way to change a face texture in-game (without modding) other than to use the Black Emporium. So, there's no logistical way to make the face paint function as part of a DLC given how Frostbite and their code is written - it *has* to be a mod.
