I thought you have to auto attack to get clear a path to work. Being that the best weapons for that skywatcher are mauls that kind of works against you.

Just one point in "Clear A Path" will make it obsolete though.

Not opposing you here, since a Stamina Amulet is generally immensely useful, but the Avvar himself seldomly ever uses more Stamina than he regenerates with that Passive.

So would you recommend a Superb Cooldown Amulet? I also have Strength, Con and Cunning

Cunning --> Furious blows --> Critical damage bonus gear

Con --> Heal on Kill gear

Hedge your bets with the rest of your gear, though honestly the cunning will probably be more useful overall.

Texas is correct, though the third or fourth basic attack from the maul can hit multiple targets, it isn't consistent. Clear a path is only really reliable on Great Axes and Great swords, not Mauls--and the current best weapon is a maul.

Thanks for that.
I already have 50% Crit chance so I'll stick with Con and HoK to help with squishiness

My favorite loadout on Avvar:

  • Weapon: Dragon Maul w/ Critical Damage
  • Amulet: Superb Stamina
  • Rings: 10% HoK & 20% Critical Damage
  • Armour attachments: +16 Constitution, +12% Ranged defence

What I am recommending is not have your strategy hinge solely on items.

Change your approach and you won't need to brute force & tank it by simply getting health back. The characters weren't designed to depend on getting health back they are guaranteed to lose; HoK merely raises the error treshold.

Heal on Kill is not advice on how to play better. "Wear a vest" is not the answer to "How do I take cover?"

P.S.: I am wearing a +10 STR (?) amulet, cause I don't have anything else. I have the CD amulet, but I don't see the usefulness of it.

Interesting. I might not notice how helpful it is as I rarely take that passive till very late if at all and always use a stamina amulet.

I do use a Maul on mine though.

My favorite leg attachment is the +27% heal bonus, and I go dual SCDB Rings. Otherwise the same as kmeeg's. Note the T2 Pommel Upgrade contains more offense leather than the T3, so use that for CBD upgrades via Craggy skin.

"HoK" or "Promotes" is not advice.

Except that since we can craft tier 3 upgrades with HoK without having to trust in RNGEEZUS, I'd say "HoK" is advice.

Kudos to you for being able to play well in perilous without HoK, I was barely able to survive; l2p issue for me? Probably. But crafting HoK made a huge difference to survivability for me, and that was part of the original question.
