Hello,

Some days ago, Inxile started a new kickstarter for Bard's Tale IV :

https://www.kickstar...-bards-tale-iv/

And today I just learned that having backed this project for 20$ I will have a free access to the first 3 games of the serie and THANKS TO EA!

from Brian Fargo

The first step was getting Electronic Arts to sign on as they own the publishing rights to the old games, having originally brought them to the market in the mid-80s. EA very graciously had no objections at all, a big thanks to them for their help in making this giveaway happen.

That's a really nice move from E.A., and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

Bard's tale 1 was one of my favorite rpg and I will always remember fondly the skeletons closet :)

JPR out!

Seems like a PR move. Regardless, good on them. Credit where it's due.

I can see Inxile picking up the phone and talking with EA about this.

EA says "we have the rights to WHAT game now? Bart's Tale? We stopped needing to do Simpson's games after Tapped Out started printing money."

"No, no... BARD'S Tale. It was a famous RPG from twenty years ago. Signature humor, turned a lot of conventional RPGs on its head?"

"RPGs? Like the Rocket Propelled Grenades from Call of Duty? We can't make a Simpsons shooter, Fox won't syndicate the rights. Don't you think we tried that years ago?"

"What? No..."

This conversation continues, with InXile being bounced from studio head to department lead, from contracting to Legal... until they get sent to a basement office that looks like this:

They did this with Wasteland too. It's a win-win for EA, they literally do nothing since InXile does all the legwork, it's a nice bump for PR and they probably have some licensing agreement where they collect a little portion of the profits. Requires zero investment (either time or money) and they get a small payoff. I'd honestly be questioning the mental faculties of the peeps at EA if they turned Fargo down.

Is it bad that I still read EA (down here in off topic) as an acronym of the now deceased EntropicAngel?

I just love how when EA does something positive people try there hardest to turn it into a negative.

I don't see anyone trying to turn it into a negative... yet.
