Prepare to have your thread assaulted.

As for me, I wouldn't have a problem with this if it didn't decrease the overall quality of the franchise. Unfortunately, I don't think it would happen that way.

Their MMO bullcrap already decreased the overall quality of the franchise. Inquisition is the most boring dragon age world yet.

I'm not really thinking of hugely dramatic, world shaking impacts. Little ones. In Orzammar, depending on which king you back, the merchant Legnar will change his commentary towards you. In DA2, depending on whether or not you help out Keran the templar affects whether or not a mission will be available in a later act. Selling Aveline's husband's sword will cause her to make a snide comment about it in a discussion in Act 3. In DAO, if you pick pocketed from the Dalish, there was a cutscene you'd get where you were confronted. There are other little things as well, though those are some of the ones that stand out the most for me. Impact doesn't have to be as drastic as saving the world or ending it - just seeing what the people say to you depending on your choices can be interesting. At least to me.

Very well put as usual from you -- Sometimes I wish for a bit more from my decisions but I think they've done a decent job in DAO in DA2, and to some degree in DAI.

In all honesty, if the next games up until the 6th (and last one) are successful, I think EA will force Bioware to go MMO with DA. By that time SWTOR will have run its course, and EA would love nothing more than another cashgrab like SWTOR has become since the cartel market was introduced.

As long as a DA MMO doesnt interfere with the 6game plan, I think it could be a good thing, and if done right, could be a lovely way to finish the franchise.

It's called Star Wars: The Old Republic.  And it's spectacular in its mediocrity, both from a story-telling perspective and a gameplay perspective.  If the next game is Dragon Age: The MMO, I'm dropping the series forever.  DA:I was pretty decent from a "happily ever after" perspective, I can live without having to wait for enough nugs to respawn so I can collect 10 nug skins to see the next bit of story.  I've tried playing SW:TOR 3 times and every single time it has bored me stupid.

You probably dont play many mmo's then, do you? Because if SWTOR has bored you story-wise and gameplay-wise, then there really aint any mmo out there for you. SWTOR has many flaws. Many many many, I'll give you that. But it's still considered the best leveling mmo because of the Classes Main quests.

Maybe you should try one of the classes with the best stories and you wont be so bored? I'd recommend Imperial Agent class. The story is really good.

As for gameplay, its not mediocre, its your classic mmorpg, WoW style. You are free to hate it ofc, but I wouldnt say its mediocre, it works, and in terms of end game pvp and pve, the gameplay mechanics are one of the most entertaining I ever played.

But if you really want to still call it mediocre, then do it for the right reasons - awful outdated engine; complete lack of content and support for pvp; slow addition of content for pve, halfbaked rushed small expansions; more focus and development in cartel market (fluff items bought for real money) than content for paying subscritions, etc etc.

That is very true. Playing through certain zones like Hinterlands reminds me of playing WoW. Open, empty zones, filler quests, and repetitive grinding through respawning enemies.

I couldn't force myself through the whole game. DAO and even DA2 I was already on my second playthrough. I still play Origins...

I would prefer Dragon Age: Offline. There are too few single-player RPGs like Dragon Age out there as it is to lose one to an MMO. It's not like there's a shortage of MMO games out there either.

I thought of something similar, but mine would have the custom characters from DA:O/A. DA2, and DA:I crossing dimensions to fight against each other or team up for battles. This would also mean alternate versions of the series characters.

I think it would be too big for BioWare's breeches though.

No. Never.

DA was, is and will be a single player party-RPG.

Indeed! It'd be fun to see something absolutely shattering within a game itself - have our characters deal with the consequences of their own decisions, and the like. I hope we'll get to see more in future titles (as well as the little things ^.^)

Sure why not, their already halfway there with DA:I, if going all the way its just lacking the things people actually find fun with MMO's.

DAI already has most of the things I like about MMOs.

Adding other players would just ruin it (as it does MMOs).

Then you're likely not the kind of player MMO's are intended for, but that's alright, games and genres shouldn't aim for pleasing everyone.

For a huge amount of people, playing together with others in pve and pvp content at varying ratings and difficulties are among the best they have to offer, raiding 25 man heroics in WoW are among some of my fondest memories in gaming as a whole, aside from the truly brutal challenge they offer compared to single player RPG's.

I haven't seen a single boss in any single player rpg that can compare to the intensity and brutality of bosses like heroic lich king.

This was originally planned for what became Dragon Age Inquisition.

Reading that, one can understand the MMO feeling of it...

Not sure if that would be a good move. I enjoyed quite a lot Drakensang (turn-based RPG) for instance , but it's a pity they turned it to a action MMO instead of releasing Drakensang 3.

SWTOR disappointed me too.

Making an MMO sequel to a single player game pretty much always destroys the franchise. I bet EA will do it, though. It is the sort of thing they would do.

Dragon Age converted to MMO = Lot's of grinding quests, huge world that just costs a lot of time to travel.

Swtor already almost failed before they went F2P and now they survive by selling lots of ingame items.

The MMO market is already flooded by thousands of F2P companies.

BUT, I would like to see a real cooperate 2-4 online multiplayer where you can play the story with friends instead of a party.

Not the horde mode MP like we have in DAI.

Why would any player care for whom a game was intended?

I was a pretty heavy MMO player from 1999-2003, and I played solo that entire time.

You shouldn't, if you're happy that's all that matters, but many MMO players do want the kind of gameplay many of these games offer, if they find the dungeon/raid centric and world grinding concept boring it isn't the genre being broken, its just not a game that suits their personal taste.

I can definitely understand people wanting to keep DA as a single player RPG, if bioware wants to make a fantasy MMO they are better of doing it with an entirely new IP.

There is a multiplayer component in both ME and DA for those that need such things.

I quite hate MMO. I play games like DAI exactly because aren't MMO. I don't even have the PSplus, because I'm against MP and having to pay to play it. I never had fun playng MP, since many times I punt the difficult at easy just to go rapidly throught combat and simply enjoy the story, that is what is mostly interesting in a BioWare game.

So you want to trade an engaging and emotional story with the kind of characters bioware is (was) famous for, for yet another throw away MMO experience filled with chores? That's what MMOs are, time sinks, chores, made fun by the mutiplayer aspect. A dragon age game should be amazing on the basis of story alone.

I can't tell you how much I hate this idea.

it WOULD ruin the series, because it'd be bioware continuing to sacrifice personal and emotional story for MMO crap, and instead of great games that will make a lasting impression, it'll be a WOW clone that nobody will remember in 10 years.

They don't ahve to ruin dragon age to do this, they can make a new IP for that, and focus on actual dragon age games.

No, I don't want that. What i want is for Bioware to finish their 6game plan for Dragon Age without messing it up with an online game. After the 6game plan when they are done with the series, what harm could there be if they made a good mmo with the franchise? Yes, i think they should explore new IPs for sure, but i actually think that a Dragon Age Online mmo is a very likely thing to happen because of EA. If they finish the 6game plan with sucess, I dont see why they wouldnt try to milk the franchise dry by finishing it with a mmo.

That's the rub. This IP is really not geared for online play, imo. Making a "good mmo" quite difficult to develop, if at all.

Opinions vary and you might want to look at Neverwinter and star wars as examples. Co-op is one thing, pairing up with someone or a few good folks to share a story or the action is good when it happens, but experience is that this is rare and often unreliable, hence guilds and all the headaches.  Thus MMO gaming often amounts to a cluster "F" - that's when zero tolerance kicks in.

If Bioware/EA does anything, evolve the multiplayer experience along more cooperative story lines, but don't sacrifice the single player experience.
