As I am a bit of a n00b regarding online gaming (die hard single player here), I'm a bit confused. This is the situation:
- I have created an account at the social site.
- As I understand it, this is an EA account, correct?
- This account has the same mail address as my (previous/already existing) Bioware account.
- I have connected my Bioware account to the EA account, using the account settings in http://forums.bioware.com/
- I needed to add a persona/screen name in the EA-account, and used "Katsunami" there.
Now there's the confusion:
It seems I can log in onto the social site with my old Bioware account: Katsunami+password. I can also login using my e-mailaddress+password (EA account, it seems). Which of those should I use? As I understand it, the game only logs in using an EA-account. If I (accidentallly) log in to the social website using Katsunami+password (so, not the e-mail address as per EA account), will I get problems with downloadable content?
Also, there seem to be two persona's in the EA-account now:
Katsunami, and Katsunami (EA-id). I gather the EA-id one was created when creating the EA-account. Where does the other persona come from, and which should I set as default? Can I delete the non-EA-id one in some way?
And at last: when logging into http://profile.ea.com/, it seems I am redirected to http://www.ea.com/ without getting into the profile. Has anyone else experienced this issue? It seemed to work yesterday.
I'll be getting Dragon Age today; I'd like to have the accounts stuff sorted out to avoid problems with redeeming DLC codes.
Thanks for any help and answers.

Always log in using your EA Account. If you managed to merge it with your Bioware account kudos to you. However you never know when there will be any problems with that. Did you use Character Creator? Log in with that account. Did you play Journeys? Log in with that account.

When I went to create an account at the social site, I could choose my Bioware account as basis. I did so, and proceeded with the account creation. It created an EA-account using the data from the Bioware account, including e-mail address. After receiving an e-mail from EA about the account creation, I logged in at http://profile.ea.com/, and set my preferences. I also created a Persona: Katsunami. (It is marked with "EA-id", automatically. The other persona options where for XBox and PS3, and I have neither.).
Now I can login as follows, on the social site:
http://social.bioware.com/
e-mail address
password
(Seems to be EA account)
OR
http://social.bioware.com/
Katsunami
password
(Seems to be Bioware account, but linked through to EA account, resulting in the same login.)
At the Bioware forums http://forums.bioware.com, I can also log in using the new EA e-mail/password combo, and also using the old Bioware Username/password. At http://profile.ea.com/ I can only log in using the e-mail/pass combination. When logged into the Bioware forums using the bioware/username combo, and then going to My Account -> EA Master account, I see that there is a link to the EA Account. If there si not, you can create the link. (After doing so, the page also offers the option to disconnect the Bioware account.) Logging into the Bioware forums using the EA e-mail/password combo, it doesn't mention any links. It just reports that this EA-account is primary.
I did try Journeys shortly, and logged in using the EA e-mail/password combo. It did ask me for a screen name though, so I typed in "Katsunami". I think that this caused the second Persona in the EA account. Does anyone know how to get rid of it, or should I just choose one as default and forget the other?
I did not use the character creator yet, but I plan to try it to get the Lucky Stone DLC. I'll log in using the EA e-mail/pass combination.
In short, it seems that on EA.com only the e-mail/pass combination works (EA-account), and on Bioware sites/Social site, both accounts (old Bioware, new EA-account) work. As Dragon Age requires you to login using an EA account if you want to use DLC, it seems most safe to just use the EA e-mail/password combination everywhere. It gets quite confusing otherwise.
It leaves just one question:
Does anyone know why http://profile.ea.com/ redirects to www.ea.com after login? Yesterday, it didn't do that. To be honest though, it seems that the social site is working much better than 2 days ago. No lag in post/topic appearance, and no crashes or invalid topics as of yet.
Thanks for any further answers.

i don't know what's going on anymore, i can now log in with 2 email addresses, get to the same profile, but in my older of the 2 accounts i see more results in "my questions" my old profile also tells me that i need to verify my email, but when i send the verify email and then actually attempt to verify it, it tells me it's already been done. honestly i have had nothing but problems with ea since i started using their site, it is the worst and bioware is no better. i've never been more pissed trying to get simple answers that here. i'm not even going to go into all their problems, it'll just get me mad and it's already too late for that.
i get the feeling i'll be deleting everything from my bioware account and shutting it down completely to use only my ea account, which means redoing the characters i created. but then i'm still stuck because i can't verify that email, which means i can't change it.
next time a game comes out i'll just order it from amazon and play, screw all these extras, it's not worth the frustratation. thanx for the help katsunami!

Yeah, I've also thought about dropping all DLC's, because it cannot be backed up at this time. If you get a lot of DLC, it's possible that, somewhere in the future, it will become unusable when support is dropped. (See Neverwinter Nights modules; they're not sold anymore, but as of yet, can be played because the authentication servers are still up. For how long...) I'm not even interested in small DLC such as trinket items; I'm only interested in the big ones such as The Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep. Couldn't care less about small stuff.
Where's the time that you just bought a disc, installed the game (and later, any patches), and play? If an expansion appeared: rinse and repeat.
This account stuff, split between several companies, is too confusing imho.
Maybe I'll un-register my BIoware games in the old account and drop it, and re-register them in the new EA account. Then I'll use only the EA e-mail/pass combination everywhere, in the hope that is safe.
Then only for the double Katsunami persona.... (Katsunami, seems to be created inside the EA-account when logging into Journeys, and Katsunami (EA-id), which seems to be created when creating the EA-account.) Maybe it's safest to just select the EA-id one as default and leave it there.

8limbscientist: Yes, to use downloadable content, you need to use the e-mail/password combination you have made for this site.
Guy4142: No, you misunderstood. I have had a Bioware account for a very long time, because I own several Bioware games already. (Eh... all of them, except the Star Wars ones, to be correct
) If you want to use downloadable content inside the game, you will need an account on this social site, to where you can log in with the game.
When you start account creation, you have several options:
- Create a new account from scratch. This will be your account for this site, for the game, and it ALSO is your EA account at www.ea.com.
- Use an existing EA account. You don't need to create an account.
- Use an existing Bioware forums account as basis of the new social site/game/EA account. The new account will copy as many of the settings as possible. The Bioware account will stay active too, but you only need that for older Bioware games and their forums at http://forums.bioware.com/ (Note: At their forums, you can also use your EA account if you link the Bioware account to your EA account using "My Account -> EA Master Account", found in the My Account menu of the forums.)
- Use an existing Dragon Age forums account. The EA-account will copy the settings, and as far as I know that account will be gone when the old Dragon Age forums go down. (http://daforums.bioware.com/ -> Replaced by social site.)
It took me some time to figure out. Especially signing into and changing the EA-account at www.ea.com. Go there, and sign-in / change the account at the very lower right corner of the site.
I hope it is somewhat more clear now.
