Is there a comprehensive list by enemy for sync kill triggers? Fairly sure I've seen em all separately over the years but don't remember seeing a list. A cursory look at Resource Library got me some on Deerbers Novaguard but that was about it.
Sync Kill Triggers

- Atlas does a heavy melee
- Phantom needs to to initiate the melee (1 frame of it is all she needs to be primed for a sync)
- Brute and Scion probably have a trigger but it's hard to notice because the sync is so sudden.
- No Banshee&Praetorian Trigger I can think of.

^ I totally don't know if this is a serious topic. But... how long you've been playing this game so far? And it's usually a melee that primes the sync kill or husk leg hump.

Most are melee based I think. Phantom, Atlas, Praetorian, Scion, all have to do a melee attack, and are then "primed" to do a sync. To a lesser extent, Husks and Abominations too. (They must melee before they can grab onto you).
Brutes, supposedly when they thump their chests and get red glowing eyes, but I honestly got sync killed my first week on PC (offhost) by at least half a dozen Brutes who did NOT have glowing red eyes, so don't rely on that as an indicator. I stopped meleeing Brutes because of this.
Banshee, it's not just Teleport Mode. It's when she is teleporting, and gets within grab range of a player. You will hear a very faint "Urrgghhh...", and then if you remain within range, she will then proceed to grab you. If you run away, the next person she teleports at will receive the "instagrab" phenomenon.

Praetorian also has to melee. But his melee into sync is so fast that it's almost at the same time.
Brute has to swipe at you, I think.
Scion does his slow club swing
Prime on wave 3. Has to be wave 3 and controlled by Biower dev. He picks you up like Juggy does, fires a plasma to your face, then drinks your soul and spawns another Prime out of your corpse.

Phantoms, Banshees, Atlases, and Praetorians are well-known already. For a Scion, he needs to do his two-hit melee move in order to be primed for a sync-kill attack. For a Brute, I believe he must melee you twice(charging attack doesn't count), and after the second melee, if you are staggered by the second-hit, you will be pulled into a sync-kill.

The guide you saw describes in detail Banshees' trigger.
Every other sync is triggered by a melee, no exceptions. In the Brute's case, its charge doesn't count as melee for this, only the ordinary ones.

Brute seems to be the most vague trigger. I've never seen a brute grab anyone after his charge or pounce, but he'll grab almost every time after his swipe.

Brutes and scions have to melee, but since the range is so large you're typically knocked out of it. You typically either avoid the melee or run into it to get synced. The effective range for being in sync kill range is also pretty small for them, especially the brute. Phantoms and banshees is significantly larger.- Atlas does a heavy melee

Banshee and praetorian are melees but it doesn't knock you out of range most times. With the praetorian its so fast its almost assured it gets a chance (think on gold and platinum its .5 or .6) at sync killing. It's also why magnet hands were such an issue, the banshee didn't use to have to face the player to be in range so you could get pulled from behind.

Banshee can sync when she is in phase 1 and walking around, not teleporting. She switches from teleport to walk quickly though.

What about getting instagrabbed after teleporting through a wall?

I remember seeing a post from a dev about this forever ago. Don't ask me to link it, because I'm not going to spend hours searching the forums for it, especially because I can't remember which dev it was. But as I remember, they said that Banshees have to be still and facing you, every other enemy has to perform a successful melee attack from standing (i.e. not including the Brute's swipe attack).

Pretty sure banshees don't have to be facing you on 99% of the hosts I've played with. Ever. =/

Nope. Phantoms need to perform 1 frame of invisible melee animation and then be able to sync you 2 seconds later.

Breaking the sword may not do you any good:

Banshees were fixed by adding a second check they have to perform now to make sure you're still in the range to be synced. Before patch, they would teleport to you, instantly check that you're in range and stab you. Even if you ran 10 meters away from them they would magnet you back.

As already said, Banshees definitely don't have to melee to sync.Banshee and praetorian are melees but it doesn't knock you out of range most times.
That happens because they can switch to the walking (and grabbing) phase at any time between teleports. They usually need some time, so if you're the host it's basically guaranteed that you'll get the time to dodge away, if you're aware of it. If you're not, or if you're not hosting, you might get unlucky and grabbed instantly. What about getting instagrabbed after teleporting through a wall?
Besides, I don't think the ability to perform a sync after just one frame of the melee attack was processed is exclusive to the phantoms. It's probably much more noticeable cause it's hard to interrupt the other melees.
Oh, and one more, important thing: all sync capable enemies spawn ready to sync. Never charge a banshee/brute/anything else that just spawned.

Brute's eyes go red when they are ready. Scions will start swinging at you...pause then grab you
How's about not pissing them off and you won't get syncd?

That's true. I play a lot of melee and I can't tell you how many times I've been synced by a brute the moment he came out of stagger because he managed to get a few frames of his swipe attack off before getting staggered.

Brute-Is the red eyed thing means they're primed for sync.
Phantoms- have to initiate melee first(notice that word because they don't have to complete melee to be primed). If a Phantom is primed for sync and her sword is broken she cannot go into a mode other than sync kill mode, she is primed for sync no matter what. Yet another fantastic glitch.
Banshee-is by proximity when her barrier is up. She goes through a set of checks before initiating sync kill.
Scions- after initiating melee. They deprime after they go ranged again.
Praetorian-when on the ground after melee. You're screwed if their melee connects though because you cannot escape. You can however attack them sometimes while they're lasering with a Vanguard if you're really quick.
Atlases-after they melee. They deprime once they use their cannon. Do not **** with them when they are primed they have one of the highest percentage chances of initiating a sync once they are primed with a player in the vicinity.
Husks and Abombs- not really a true sync but if one grabs you and you end up dead before you can gel it's because something stomped you before their grab animation ended.
All enemies have a percentage chance of initiating a sync when they are within a certain proximity which generally increases with difficulty.
