Yes, because I sooooo shouted and screamed and stomped my feet, instead of making short, civil remarks and left it at that. SUCH DRAMA!

I am sorry do we seriously need law who says cutting penis is wrong? I think it is you know conman sense. Seriously there this bs happening.

Yes, just like we need laws that tell people that lynching is wrong or cutting hands for thievery is wrong or - in light or fairly recent events in US - that shooting unarmed people in the back is wrong.

Common sense or reason doesn't usually apply, hon, as much as I wished it did.

Plus, I'd like to point out that "cutting penis", in US at least, is recognized as a pretty standard medical procedure with apparent health benefits. I'm NOT claiming  that this makes it right, mind you, just point out what stands in the way of 'common sense'.

Lol, what drama DID I start or perpetuate? At best I can be accused of using a bit too much snark sometimes or getting into lengthy comment exchange while the topic has been already going - which is drama material only for those desperate to seek it everywhere. Strange hobby to have, really...

Oh, the fact that it was more complicated than what I managed to summarize in one sentence is without question :) Still, Middle Ages or no, it doesn't change the fact that the Church eventually changed its stance - and the pyres burned in some parts of Europe even as late as 17/18th century.

Plus, not just "witches" were persecuted. Aside from heretics, among burned or persecuted were scientists/scholars and people who argued established status quo as well. Index Librorum Prohibitorum and the fate of Giorano Bruno it's the first thing that comes to my mind.

Well, as long as they helped the crown I guess...

Yeah, then you had that whole real life Inquisition thing which wasn't as roses and puppy dogs as DA's version of an Inquisition, the crusades, the religious terror that existed at the same time, etc.

Yup, RL Inquisition was no joke. Although admittedly the current Thedosian Inquisition is the 2nd attempt at it, after the previous one ended... well, how it ended.

I quite like the general theme and the point DAI played with, btw. Both first Inquisition - as well as Chantry and many other organizations - began their life as fairly idealistic or intended to transform the world for better, yet they all failed, and paved the road to hell with all their good (or prideful) intentions.

It's uncertain if 'our' Inquisition is guaranteed to survive or not turn into yet another terror to haunt Thedas in face of failures of everyone else before it.

On a somewhat lighter note..... I HAVE to admit, that at one point in DAI I REALLY, REALLY wanted a cutscene in which Inquisitor appears out of nowhere and exclaims "NOBODY expects the Inquisition!!", Monty Python style!

But Thedas remains Thedas. For all problems the people have there, sexism as a lesser one. It's been defined as such.

Thedas do not remains Thedas, that land is like the most skilled shapeshifter that i have ever seen.

What are you talking about?
Santa is real, because the disbelievers do not believe this doesn't disprove his existence.
Is what that Bioware guy said, what was his name?Mmmm....... Mike Laidlaw if i recall correctly
faith is required, this is the spirit of DA, faith.
However in Thedas between  divine  makers, wolves, dragons, brides, witches, heralds, goats and mabari
i have the headache everytime i hear the word "faith"

I am sorry do we seriously need law who says cutting penis is wrong? I think it is you know conman sense. Seriously there this bs happening.

Considering the vast majority of males in the United States are circumcised... Yeah, we do need laws. But everyone doing it because everyone else is doing it, pressure put on parents by doctors because they can charge extra for the procedure plus the extra money they get for selling the foreskin to be put into beauty products, and bullsh!t studies that America does both to justify it and because the scientists doing it are also likely circumcised and thus biased, and on top of all that the fact that society as a whole doesn't value or care about males as much as females and ignores male suffering a lot more... Well, add all that up and it results in us actually needing laws for the obvious that "cutting skin off of a baby's penis without pain relief so they literally pass out from the pain within a minute of the cut is probably a bad thing". And no, that isn't hyperbole. They don't get any pain relief and they really do go unconscious due to the shock from the sheer agony they're in.

Which beauty products contain foreskin? Just wondering, since I never want to condition my hair using the remains of infants' penises. Silky smoothness is not worth that much.

Most of them, not just specific brands.

http://www.newser.co...y-products.html

quote (which some bolding to highlight important parts)

"On the off chance you've ever wondered what happens to the leftover foreskins from babies' circumcisions, Christie Haskell at Cafe Mom has three words for you: "Penis wrinkle cream." Turns out the foreskin—"or more accurately, the fibroblasts from the cells of the foreskin"—can be turned into an array of skin byproducts such as a collagen, which is used in beauty care products. "Oprah's beloved SkinMedica product? Yup! Foreskins!" But it's not all frivolous: Another use "is to create bio-skin grafts for burn victims and ulcers and other large-area open wound sites," Haskell writes. Also, cosmetic companies—which shell out thousands of dollars for a single foreskin because it can grow thousands of fibroblasts—test products on the resulting pseudo-skin rather than on animals.."

There's great money to be in circumcision, and that definitely plays a role in why America pushes so hard for it on top of the cultural reasons. Money rules all there/here, so they'll do what they have to do to keep it a thing for as long as possible.

That is true with regard to player characters, but not necessarily for the world. I think that DAI's portrayal of Thedas as a world where certain kinds of gender imbalance simply don't exist is problematic. Not because I want to justify them or think they shouldn't, or couldn't, be overcome, but because I think they're based at least in part on biology and wouldn't naturally be overcome by any culture without a conscious effort that would be a part of that culture's history. It is part of the DA team's responsibility to make their world appear plausible, and they failed to realize that such a drastic break from real-world reality, while desirable for various reasons, needs a better explanation, out-of-world, than "things simply are that way."

Well, they do have a historical pretext for it: Andraste. Worshiping a female prophet, and also having a female at the head of the Chantry, and as rulers for several Andrastian nations (Celene, Anora) likely would influence how female heroes and leaders are perceived.... That is not to say that female characters have always been portrayed equally, but the writers did bake greater acceptance of females into the lore early on since DAO (at least for southern thedas). The nobility might be less female dominated than the Chantry, but so far the Chantry seems to have had more power generally. I agree though that the rest of Thedas shouldn't necessarily all be the same.
