I kinda wish ME4 was developed in Unreal Engine 4. The lightning is simply superb, it is available to the mass public, people make insane things with it so it is probably much easier to mod than FB3, as well as simpler to work with.

The following video shows a tech demo of an FPS with visuals similar to the Persidium, very Mass Effect style:

Mass Effect assets in UE4. Notice the lightning of the scene.

A Deathmatch map of the newest Unreal Tournament, the map looks somewhat similar to Jacob's mission in ME3:

The Frostbite 3 engine has a lot of potential untapped, like even radiosity lightning. It's up to the devs to untap it or not.

BTW: "Join us and work with some of the world's most acclaimed franchises - Battlefield, Mass Effect, Need for Speed and Dragon Age." - Official Frostbite site.

So yep, it seems that korean tabloid website was pretty wrong :)

Besides, ME4 will be based on the FOX engine. They dropped Frostbite quite a bit ago, if rumors are true.

Maybe, but AFAIK all games released on Frostbite 3 have been a buggy mess at least few good months into release; moreover, the moddability of the engine is close to zero, unlike the publically released UE4. It seem either the engine is very hard to use or the developers who have the access to the engine are incompetent. If the later is true, the fans themselves via mods can fix the games like in Skyrim and Dragon Age Origins, just let them do it.

Well, I'm already used to the ME games not being very mod-friendly. I just hope they learned the DA:I lesson and have the stability issues sorted out.

I could see it being implemented in some form depending on how much work is required to implement features, but I highly doubt DirectX 12 be mandatory for a few years after release.

RIght now I could be wrong, but the only true DirectX 12 video cards out there are the 900 series from Nvidia and the upcoming ATI release (I can't remember what they are calling that series).

If they can make Mass Effect on Frostbite look like the reveal trailer for StarWars Battlefront I think that would be fine.  I don't think there is a Frostbite game yet that has not been kneecapped because of being on the XB1 and PS4 yet.

It may not be as much "it must be mandatory" as "it should be".

It will be mandatory if Win10 adoption is good enough by July 29th 2016. I expect that almost every pc gamer will have upgraded by the end of this year. There is no reason not to.

I say the same: there's no reason for W10 not to be good enough after a complete year of patches.
