I did not mean that she was a virgin. In commenting that she sees Alistair as proxy son, I was in fact thinking of the fact that she compares him to her own son, that she would like to think of him as what her son would be. Hence why she is so concerned the PC is going to hurt him. However, I certainly don't get the sense that she slept with people when she felt like it. She says herself that such liaisons are not encouraged. Do you encounter any couples in the Circle? Celibate was perhaps the wrong word, however when she speaks about her Circle calling she talks about having to see it as a substitute for having a normal family. It sounds very much to me like Chantry vows, and I am going to guess that the Chantry really would like to make mages take such vows. It sounds like they all but do require this of them.melkathi wrote...

Guess that is not too different from other organizations/situations were people all live together and can't avoid each other. A "real" relationship could always end badly and this is a problem when the two parties can't avoid each other afterwards. When the two are mages with imense power at their fingertips, things are even worse.
Well, to me the sentence "Although that does not stop us from seeking out each other's... company from time to time." sounds exactly as if she was sleeping with people when she felt like it.
The chantry would love to force mages into celibacy. They do want to control them after all. But from what I understand, the Chantry is smart enough to simply want to brainwash them and not add sexual tension to the things they have to look out for.
If there were rules against sex, you would never even dare to so aggressivly flirt with Cullen in the mage origin.

LOL, my mage certainly would have tried to seduce Cullen regardless. Regarding Wynne, I am more thinking of how she talks about her having to see the work of the Circle as a substitute for a family. Add to this the fact that there are no doors on mages' quarters... just don't see sexual liaisons as a regular thing in her life.
pffft who needs doors! I mean your warden has sex in morrgans section of the camp(even if your not with her!) by an open camp fire no less for all to see! :E

Well, the tent scenes at the camp certainly don't involve being in a tent either. It seems privacy is more about hoping everyone is looking in another direction.

That said, I haven't really had her in my party for any critical situations, so I don't have much reason to hate her or love her. She and my first character never were very close. I thought her "advice" about Morrigan was alright. She does apologize afterwards, but I'd be ok with it even if she didn't. It'll be interesting to see how she reacts to my mage if she decides to become a bloodmage. Not to mention my aggressive Dalish elf who's going to romance Zevran.

Oh I did by no means mean regular!
Just something that did happen whenever she fancied to.
The mages probably have some signals. Like putting a pair of boots outside the doors or hanging a sheet.
Also with age, for many people have less and less sexual needs.
I don't think Wynne cared too much for sex, as in the "omg I haven't slept with a person in 2 months can you believe it omg?!?!?!" attitude so many movies try to promote. She has her work and duty and that fills up her days. I do think she would have liked a real family though. The unimportant thing (sex) she could get if she wanted. The important thing for her, a real family, is what she couldnt get and had to substitute for.
Anyway, thats personal opinion as always

I mean, the old bat probably could use having the "cobwebs" cleaned out, and here, she has a hot, lusty young elf wanting to show her some magic she'd never learn in the circle. Yet she insists on being a bitter old cow.
Shameful. I really wish that if you end up pursuing a romance, that the other party members could possibly hook up. I would have liked to see Zevran finally nail Wynne. Maybe she'd mellow out and stop being so condescending and preachy all the time.
Or Ogrhen, for that matter.

What really really really bothers me is this:
On my female elf mage playthrough I romanced Alistair.
I made him king.
Then after the Landsmeet, he walks in to where the rest of the party and I were sitting and dumps me. In front of everyone,
And what does Wynne have to say? The person who was so worried about me hurting poor Alistair? The one time were her grandmotherly behaviour would have been appreciated she didn't say a thing.
Since she had taken it upon herself to make the relationship her buisness, she should have come to comfort the player. Even if it was to be asked by the player wether she had come to gloat and say "I told you so". Which she could wave aside with some nice motherly care.
It would have seriously improved my opinion of her if something like that had been included.

And this makes it far more obnoxious that she feels like she has the right to criticize the PC's relationships, given that she has had daliences of her own in the past. In the same way, I can imagine that if Morrigan said she had been saved from death by a mysterious spirit that was now in her body, Wynne would be the first to assume that Morrigan had become an abomination and insist on destroying her. Wynne is so incredibly self-righteous that it blinds her to her own hypocracy. If she reminds anyone of their grandmother, then . . . well, your grandmother sucks.

Fabulous argument. Your powers of persuasion and obvious abilities as someone who can listen to others holds me in awe, yet again!
Edit: *grin* Snarkiness aside, Wynne is just another highly flawed character, but the kind that grates on some people's nerves. I think most people have known someone who just knows what's best for everyone and won't shut up about it. Wynne is also far deeper than she appears at first, in both positive and negative ways.
Her relationship chat really does leave different impressions depending on whom you're romancing, but since the dialog is basically the same for all of them after the beginning, I think the intent is the same. it's just far more clear when it's about Zevran.

What I do see is people complaing about characters being dumb, whiny, preachy, crazy, incosistent or whatever...and the complainer themselves are worse then the character they are dissing.
Of course that characters have flaws! Everyone has. But blowing all of those things way out of proportion (and going all "how DARE they!!!" )grows tiresome.

Wow, you take it far more personally than they do, I promise you
Edit: Some of us actually have fun discussing it. And there's no reason why you have to like every character -- I think that's part of the magic of the game -- that people actually CAN like, dislike, even love or hate the characters. Are they allowed to have flaws? Wow, I'm so happy they do; I wouldn't be playing this game the way I do if they were perfect as I'd be bored. Do I dislike Wynne? Yep. Is that a huge complement to the character? You better believe it.

This. So this.
All these discussions, in the end, do nothing but show the amazing work the writers have done.

Hmmmm, given RtO's dialog between Alistair and Wynne, does it seem even more hypocritical of her disapproving so strongly of the female Warden having sex with Cammen? I honestly don't get why she would now.
In all honesty, I disapprove of the warden having sex with either Cammen or Geynna :innocent:
