I really wish I could tell her, that I know why she wanted to travel with my character so badly in the first place, because I don't believe her "left things unfinished at Ostagar... will see this through..." story in the slightest (as proven by her childish "hope the Darkspawn win" comment). I think in truth she knew, that if she stayed at the Tower the Templars would find out sooner or later (rather sooner I'd say, because they'd be extra careful after what happened with Uldred) that she has *something* from the Fade within her. Benevolent or evil, spirit or demon, I doubt the Templars would care much, again, especially not after what happened with Uldred. Wynne knows, that her only chance for survival is to get away from the Tower. How I wish I could have said something along those lines in the game and unmask her for the hypocrite she is!

Et voila, I think we have also hit the nail on the head why she would rather go to Tevinter at game-end than return to the Circle.

I agree, oh how I agree. Morrigan has this great line for Wynne: "I owe you no explanation. There is no writing on my forehead that say: 'Please, guide me!'" Couldn't agree more with her.

Perfect.  Between Morrigan's treatment of Wynne and Zevran's masterfully and hilariously putting her in her place, it makes it worth it to have her in your party to hear stuff like that.

you should throw Oghren into the mix...though oghren actually likes wynn his banter with her also hilarious (see the Alistair pike twiling banter, or Oghren admitting he wants to shag her)

that would be the line she was referring to Wynn says it if you defile the ashes and she isnt in the party when you do it

I prefer taking her along though and letting my dog tear her face off

Ah, I usually don't defile the ashes (but I do kill Genitivi, because my characters are usually Dalish or mages and they all despise the Chantry), so I never got this particular dialogue. The one time I did defile them, I had Wynne with me, hehe... Felt sorry for the Guardian though.

Sabriana wrote...

That would be it. I'd preferred if she
said "I hope the darkspawn kills you", maybe I would not have been so
shocked. It would still be childish and evil, but 'take you'? It didn't
help that my PC just came back from Orzammar and saw what can happen to
a woman should the darkspawn 'take' her.
Any which way, that would
really be a blow to Ferelden's chances. My PC is not only half of the
GW force in Ferelden, she is also the leader of that force.

You're right, "hope the Darkspawn take you" really is a horrible thing to say, even if the main character is male, but of course especially for a female Grey Warden. No other companion says something so utterly cruel when they leave for good, for example:
Morrogan - "We shall meet again. With luck, later rather than sooner."
Leliana - "I'm sorry but... I can't stay here any longer. I... I wish I had never met you."
Sten - "What you do now, you do on your own."
Oghren - "So long, farewell, and may you be spit-roasted on a sodding pitchfork."

I mean, Oghren isn't very polite, but that's his way and it's still nothing compared to Wynne's line. I also just checked, she'll say this line when she leaves the Warden for other reasons than defiling the ashes too (I suppose when the aproval rating drops too low, I never had this happen to me in the game, in the toolset it's called "Wynne crisis reached second time").

The thing is, that not everyone reveres Andraste. A dwarf would have no connection to the ashes, and might think it's a good thing to do this because it'll up the odds for them to get out alive

A dalish has no reason to love the chantry, and might want to stop the chantry from getting even more powerful

A chantry hating mage - ditto

Not everyone thinks Andraste is the be-all. Sten's 'congratulations, you found a waste bin' comes to mind. And last but not least, a PC might believe Kolgren is right, and the dragon is Andraste reborn. Especially a PC without any connections to the Chantry and Andraste.

It doesn't have to be an 'evil' choice. It all depends on the PC.

Oghren's comment made me laugh. Typical Oghren. Same goes for Morrigan.

I'm beginning to like her more, and I might even forgive her going on my nerves now and then. Why can't my PC have her line? "I owe you no explanation. There is no writing on my forehead that say: 'Please, guide me!" Priceless.

Very likely. Is there actually any ending where Wynne returns to the Tower? I think I had her travelling to Tevinter, travelling randomly alone and staying at court, but I don't think she ever returned to her precious Circle in my games.

Oh, and while I am talking about returning to the Tower: I also disliked very much how she tries to get Aneirin to return to the Tower. He was miserable there (mostly because of her,of course, but still he seems happy where he is now). Just as she pushes the Warden into the direction she thinks is right, she doesn't even seem to hear what Aneirin is saying:
Aneirin: "I have put that behind me and you should too. I didn't fit in with the templars and your Chantry... my path lay elsewhere."
Wynne: "Irving is a reasonable man. He will find some way for you to return. The Circle needs new blood. It needs to change."

I mean, he just told her that he found his way in life and she doesn't even adress that in the slightest, let alone acknowledge it. Instead she just decides what is best for him or rather that it doesn't matter what is best for him, because the Circle needs him - conveniently forgetting that Irving (or Gregoir) also told her that she was needed at the Circle.

Good point about Aneirin. I wish you could have the option to meet Aneirin in the Brecilian Forest apart from doing Wynne's quest. My blood mage left the "preachy schoolmarm" in the Tower so she'll never meet him, whereas if she did they'd have good times commiserating over the Circle.

depending on how much in love he is with the warden I can see him either doing his standard "make wynn as uncomfortable as possible" or a pretty serious response if hes in love with you

Yeah, I noticed that too. I remember hoping that Aneirin uses his brain and stays where he is.
I mean, he should feel nice and comfy in the Chantry full of templars, who hunted him down and left him for dead. At 14 years of age. Good one Wynne. He was branded a malificar by the Chantry. I doubt they'd be all kind and nice to him, especially after what happened in the tower.

I intend to, for my fanfic.  :P  It will be kind of a Darcy/Lady de Burgh moment.

I'm taking extreme license with the timeline, so I think I'll put it post-Zevran meltdown, when he's thinking maybe Blair doesn't really care for him and they're better off apart anyway.  Wynn will choose the perfect moment to go harass Blair about Zevran, and then go harass Zevran when that doesn't work.

If he uses his brain he'll pack up and find some other forest, before Wynn has a crisis and decides she must tell Irving where the fugitive mage is hiding.  <_<

"Ah, my darling Wynne, your harsh judgement wounds me! You are a cruel, cruel woman. First you denied me the comfort of crying at your bosom and now you scold me for seeking consolation elsewhere? Is there no warmth in your heart? How is it that you do not feel guilty?"

OMG THANK YOU, CUDDLEZERO, for those most GOLDEN screen shots! Some of the dialogue choices had me in stitches:

Choice one, when, when Wynne first brings it up: "No, you may not, Gregoir was talking to me" LMAO!

and PC:No, you were mistaken, those weren't my spells". Like a kid blaming the broken vase on his sister. "Wasn't me, Morrigan did it, I swear!"

PC: "But I'm a GOOD blood mage!" LMAO!

Under the initial dialogue options, I really wish there had been an option, when she asks where did you learn that, to tell her "The Fade fairies taught me!"

And I totally love Irving and gregoir verbally pimp slapping her back into place. My respect for both just shot up.

I used to like Wynne initially, in my first playthrough, just thought she was some well meaning granny along for wise guidance. But when she first started sticking her nose in my relationship with Alistair, telling me to dump him, that first irritated me. Through later playthroughs, especially my mage playthroughs, she really got on my ******. Still, I don't want to leave her at the tower, if nothing else, than so i can tell her off and make fun of her because she's old and possesed.

And yes, she's 100 times worse than Alistair at his most rody naieve. Alistair, unlike Wynne, can be trained, and is will grudgingly accept morally questionable decisions with some protest, and conceed if someone makes a better point. Wynne, however, will not accept anything that displeases her, and it's only for the greater good if Wynne says so.

I am so looking forward to playing a blood mage now!

I always root for Elizabeth. Auntie de Burgh is a true royal beyotch.

Good one Allerleirauh, but I want him to be angry at her. You know with the angry-face he gives the Warden  when she refuses the earring the first time around.

Hmm, perhaps that 'spirit' isn't all that benign. I wonder now. True enough, she never does return to the circle.

Here is where Alistair should have piped up with another of his "you must be thinking of a whole other Chantry than the one I know" speeches.  That's a good one, actually.  Too bad Wynne wasn't listening.

That last shot, with the last dialogue option, is so friggin ironic "I only ever sued spells I learned here." Given that the Circle oppressed Chantry ended up creating the desire and discontent that led up to so many normally vanilla mages going blood, there's more truth to the last statement than is implied.

Edit to add: I would have loved a response to "They weren't my spells" with a "it's true. Morrigan did it. I saw her. Said when she's through, she's gonna kick all your asses."

"Circle-oppressed Chantry?" Or did you mean Circle-oppressing Chantry? Image IPB   I agree that some of the Templars were very definitely experiencing "desire and discontent", although I don't think that's quite what you meant.

@Allerleihrau, brilliant posts, and your insight into Wynne's reasons for wanting to join the Wardens is probably spot on. I never really thought about it like that, too busy laughing at Zevran when he asks Wynne about what it's like to be possesed by a spirit, and he starts turning it into something terribly perverted, and makes her feel "dirty". But you've just given me a bit of insight into what might be her motives for joining you.

When my mage went and found Aderin, and Wynne is trying to get him back to the circle, i wanted so bad to chew her ass off right there for being so stupid and insensitive. I mean, the boy has forgiven her and moved on, found happieness and fulfillment with his people, and she wants him to return to an oppresive atmosphere and society that tried to kill him once already. And then afterwards, has the nerve to try to sucker my mage back to the guilded prison. She never learns, does she?

@Sabriana: While the dalish don't worship or revere Andraste, they do respect her as a a great hero of legend who led their people to victory against Tevinter and freedom from slavery, and gave them their second homeland. In the Codex and in conversations with the dalish, she is the only shemlen that is mentioned with respect, as she led the rebellion and made sure her promise to them was kept. It was the Chantry, formed many years after her death, that broke her promise and turned on the Dalish. So while a Dalish PC would not worship or revere the ashes, I think they would, out of respect for probably the only shem worth respect, would not violate her remains.

Though I think they certainly would give Genitivi the murder knife, if nothing else, then to keep him from strengthening Chantry dogma, and drawing a bunch of shem pilgrims to pick at her ashes like a piece of holy pie.

Dwarves probably could care less either way.

Oh, Wynne with Anairan. Ugh. Ok, I found HIM very sexy and all because of how gentle he was with her. He understood what a tool she was. I think after her meeting with him, she began to understand that as well.

Wynne did not like either of my mages, because both hated the circle. I honestly do not understand Wynne's attitude. I guess if she started questioning the circle, she would be consumed with hate, because they really hurt her on so many levels.
