Just entered this PS3 lobby as the 3rd guy where these two guys were jabbering non-stop in some language that wasn't English. 4th guy joins, hears these guys not talking English, and bails ASAP. I thought about doing the same since PS3 has no mute feature. But thought that'd be racist so I stuck around and readied up along with the second person. But then the host leaves too, lol. What a racist.
Folks not talking your language in chat annoy you?

"Gibberish" is a second language.
It also has the added benefit that no-one will be able to respond.

This is just like the batarians in those extranet games that insist on speaking their own language.

Yeah, I know. My mom taught me to never talk our first language in front of those that can't understand us, as that would be rude. If only all these other folks had mom's too.

Well, ignoring people works out pretty much the same, regardless of what language they're speaking, so it doesn't have much impact on me. You can mute people on PS3, by the way. If you use the block option, it disables communication from them, which includes voice chat.

My favorite are the germans. They get grabbed, and they start screaming, "NIEN! NIEN! NIEN! NIIIIIIIEEEEEN!" Not all of them, obviously, but the few that do are memorable. The best was the guy panicking and missing his missiles, and screaming for each missile.
That said, I'm bilingual in English/French, myself, so I can at least understand a decent chunk of lobbies. My french IS rusty as sin, occasionally leading me to say things like "I can't pull my gun, I need to refill it" when I forget the word for ammo, but it's good practice.

I like to try to say something to them in their own language, even if it's just "thanks" when they revive me. (This is assuming I can tell what language they are speaking.) They usually give me credit for trying and speak to me in English after that. I've learned "thanks" in a few languages now.
