That's why I got the demon vibe from the Maker. Cole felt he needed to survive by killing because it was his purpose, and at the time he was Mercy instead of Compassion and slowly becoming a demon of Despair or Fear. I feel like the Maker needs this Chant and belief of thousands to exist, and the throne was empty because he is no longer in the fade, but somewhere in Thedas. That's why Corypheus saw nothing. Mother Giselle brushed off the possibility he was telling the truth, but I can't help but feel Corypheus saw the truth and not some illusion.

Yet if what Dorian said is the truth about the worst being "nothing" and everyone is worshiping something that's not even in existence, then I fear the Chantry disaster with Anders will pale in comparison if people found out it was all a lie.

Writers already say they not conform or deny Makers existence. So I think Maker is same as any real monotheistic religion with omnipotent god is not real and just human made fiction. And looks like at least elven polytheistic religion is "real" have some true in it.

Well, at least according to Solas the demon/spirit thing is sort of a false dichotomy, or at least the line between them can be somewhat blurry. So we're YET to see if the Maker is a demon or maybe some form of being we're not entirely familiar with.

As for Corypheus telling the truth... well, I'd certainly say that Corypheus BELIEVES that what he saw and says is truth. I'd say I'm somewhere in between. As in: I think stuff described by Cory or parts of Chant happened, but they were not exactly like one or the other, so no party can claim that it's anywhere close to how things truly were or are; more like glimpses of truth reflected in warped mirror.

Anyway, I sometimes get the feeling that the whole Chant of Light might began as something of an elaborate ploy - like, someone introduced it in order to make people believe in something, perhaps in an attempt to prevent something worse form happening, or maybe to keep it 'alive' as it sleeps and waits for its time to awaken or return.

Admittedly, this is as much of a crackpot theory as you can get :P I make no claims whatsoever that this is remotely possible - I just sometimes get a feeling that it might be it.... though prrrrrrobably because I'd be tempted to do something like this myself in some sort of post-apocalyptic fantasy story idea xD

Lol I feel the same way tbh. And as 9TailsFox said, the Maker is not confirmed or denied, so this demon idea I got is basically along the lines of what you think. The demon is taking advantage of people's belief and the Chant is not what people think it to be. What Andraste saw might have been a demon messing with her mind or such a being did exist once, but then over time and tales, an evil entity took advantage of her story. All I know is, bad things happen to believers, and I don't think it's just bad timing.

Ser Gilmore says "may the Maker watch over us all" and dies. Duncan says the same thing and dies. Even poor Bethany asks the Maker for strength and then gets crushed by an Ogre.

Based on what we learned in DAI and generally how the Chant describes the Maker, and how they kept repeating that "one world" ambient dialog in Haven...I'm guessing the Maker is supposed to be something akin to the idea of the Logos, Tao, or Great Spirit, etc...so I think there is probably not some individual being or spirit running around Thedas or the Fade. As for who Andraste really was or who wrote the Chant and why, who knows... Probably a lot of historical events attributed to the Maker were done by various people, spirits, or natural phenomenons. If you ask Giselle about the Elven gods she suggests they might be aspects of the Maker, which would imply the Maker created them and works through them as well.
