Based on what I’ve been reading, the vast majority of the problems can be distilled down into two main categories:

• The user didn’t install Adobe AIR.

Solution: Install Adobe AIR, then follow the next step.

• The Access installer was not called properly.

Solution:
1) Open a command prompt
2) Go to ME 2 directory
3) Go to software subdirectory
4) Type the following command:

EAAccessInstaller.exe /s/dir "C:\\\\\\\\Program Files\\\\\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\binaries"

(With the appropriate path to the ME2 binary directory).

Hiya Michael!

First of all, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to reply to this thread. I'd like to thank Bioware for making what looks like such a promising game, and yadda yadda yadda. I know what a crazy time release day can be, so it's super nice to have someone replying directly.

As stated in my original post, I do not have a /software/ subdirectory in my Mass Effect 2 folder, and ME2 did not install to Program Files.

Instead, I have a folder in F:/Games/Mass Effect 2 containing /Binaries/, /BioGame/, /data/, /docs/, and /engine/. A thorough search of these folders and subfolders has yielded no /Software/ directory.

As far as I know the /software folder isn't supposed to be in the Mass Effect 2 game folder, it's in the folder where the setup for installing the game is located.

The initial 'MassEffect2-dm.exe' installer or all the stuff that Setup unpacks? I actually have no clue where all of that went - I checked all of my hard drives up and down for it and never found it.

Yeah it's where ever your download of the game went to. If you used Direct2Drive it would have let you chose where it went unles you have something set to auto default. If you used the EA Download Manager it's where ever the cache folder for that is.

For me the EADM version was in F:\\Games\\EA Core\\cache\\EADM\\{ email adress }\\mass_effect_2_ce\\Disc1

The D2D version went to F:\\MassEffect2_DigitalDeluxeEdition_ddsetup

Oh, good lord. Don't tell me it was this easy the whole time. o_o; Every time I heard the EAAccessInstaller.exe mentioned it was in some folder I couldn't match. Yargh! Reinstalling EADM and having a look...

In the /Disc1/ folder, I have a folder called /support/, but nothing else. Is it possible it deleted everything that was cached when installation completed?

[EDIT] - Dangit. Y'know what the worst part of this is? Looking over the rest of the forum I realize that if I don't get this thing working on the quick I won't be able to take advantage of the problems with bonus item distribution to get ahold of stuff I didn't pay for. ;P

Ah well.

Yeah your supposed to have more then that, I have /data, /DirectX, /software, /support and several .txt files along with the setup.exe. My installation didn't seem to remove anything on its own.

Updated instructions:

• The Access installer was not called properly.

Solution:
1) Open windows file search
2) Type "EAAccessInstaller.exe" and locate the file on your hard drive
3) Open a command prompt and cd to the directory of EAAccessInstaller.exe
4) Type the following command:

EAAccessInstaller.exe /s /dir "C:\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Program Files\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\binaries"

(With the appropriate path to the ME2 binary directory).

If that still doesn't work:

1) Go to the ME2 directory, binaries subfolder.
2) Open the EACore_App.ini file in a text editor
3) Make sure that the paths to activation.exe are correct

If that _still_ doesn't work, you can examine the log file to see if there's any indication there of what's going wrong.

On Win XP, the log files live in: C:\\\\Documents and Settings\\\\All Users\\\\Application Data\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\EA Core\\\\logs
On Vista/Win7, the log files live in: C:\\\\Program Data\\\\Electronic Arts\\\\EA Core\\\\logs

Pick the one with the latest timestamp and open it in IE (it won't open correctly in non-IE browsers)

Additional note:
You can try manually launching EACoreServer.exe and then running the game executable.

On same base as Michael Gambles post. I was able to get around the AWC.dll issue by creating a shortcut to the EAAcessInstaller.exe on my desktop. Then right click the shortcut and under the shortcut tab, down to target line and put in

C:\\Users\\JB\\Downloads\\MassEffect2_ddsetup\\software\\EAAccessInstaller.exe /s /dir D:\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries

just modify to where you installed the game. I hope this works for others. I had to dig it up in dragon age forums since it had same awc.dll issue on it's release too.

ok, something is messed up with my "cmd" window

For example...this is how it looks when the window opens up:

[Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

[© Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

[

[C:\\Documents and Settings\\Matt>

then lets says I want to go up to the root C:/ drive so I type in "C:\\" it will give me the following message.

['C:\\' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

[operable program or batch file.

It keeps giving me this message whenever I type in whichever destination I want to goto or folder or whatever

Hooooobooy, something went FLAGRANTLY WRONG with my install, I think. o_o;

EAAccessInstaller.exe was not found on my drive.

EACore_App.ini has correct paths.

There is no \\\\\\\\logs\\\\\\\\ folder in my EA Core directory.

I guess I'll just have to redownload, uninstall everything again, restart, and reinstall everything. Sigh.

[EDIT 1910 EST] - AHA! Progress! Uninstalled ME2 and started downloading it via EADM again... This time all of the correct folders in /Disc1/ appeared. Now I just have to wait... Another 3 hours for it to finish and I can test it out again. :/

[EDIT 1928 EST] - Couldn't help but fix that stupid typo. >_> Don't mind me. I am not the poster you're looking for. >handwave<

I posted my fix to it but i can't seem to find it i guess it got deleted.

The misconfig error i still have but i can play. The problem is EACoreServer.exe isn't starting up when its' supposed to so you have to start it manually and then click the .exe to start the game.

If you're just having the awc.dll error, it's a problem with adobe air or it's not even installed (first time i installed it wasn't there) so you have to install the eaaccesinstaller with this in the target line

/s/dir "ME2/Binaries Folder" and then you'll be fine.

Running the EACoreServer manually and then running the game worked for me. Thank you again Tymathee!
Seems like you have to run it just about any time you want to play the game, until they actually fix it.

It should have installed into your ME2\\binaries subdirectory if I remember correctly.  It's called EACoreServer.exe.

Vendrac, I'm not sure what to make of that log file.  ea_vault is a reference to EADM 6, so I suspect this may actually be a log file from when you used EADM 6 to download ME 2 in the first place?

VICTORY!

After re-downloading ME2 from EADM, the program installed to F:/Program Files/Mass Effect 2 instead of F:/Games/Mass Effect 2. All missing files have been installed to the correct paths and my game is now in working order.

Seems like a lot of D2D users are having problems.  If you rerun EAAccessInstaller.exe manually as per the instructions above, it should install activation.exe.

Solution I found. open the EA_core.ini delete everything in it and then save it then restart game from the EADM and should work fine to launch from the ME2 shortcut without using the EADM. I believe this is the solution that was found too fix same problem with DA:O.

Good Luck hope this helps.

Hi, I had nearly the same issue, downloaded and install over EADM and got this awc.dll error and my EACore.dll was zero-byte. Before this  I have done nearly all from this topic:
http://social.biowar...06/index/804361 - I had no luck
with it.

Now here comes some magic:
  • What I had done was unpack the 'EAAccessInstaller.exe' with 7zip to an temporary folder, because the commandline stuff did not work as hoped.
  • Now I got the stuff from the installer and a file called '[0]', this needs also to be unpacked in an subfolder using 7zip - this is the data-folder from the installer.
  • In the data-folder there is, the needed 'EACore.dll', if your's is also 0-byte
  • In the subfolder '$0\\$1' from data-folder there is the needed 'awc.dll'
  • Two files from the 2 steps above get copied to the ME2/binaries-Folder
.. it works without an error for me.
