Now that the shiny has worn off of your sparkling new copy of ME 2, what did you find disappointing about the game? Here are some of mine with explanations.

[SPOILERS BELOW]
  • Combat: Ducking into cover is an improvement overall with one glaring exception, the key binding used is the same as the sprint which has the very undesirable effect of pinning you to any nearby object like a magnet. This is not very good when a missile is about to perform a colonoscopy on you if your dash to freedom is interrupted by a rock or wall. I would love to see some sort of compromise for this in the final game of the trilogy.
  • Weapons: Part of the glorious joy of ME was the ability to diligently work towards building weapons that would fire until all the suns in the galaxy burned out before overheating. The switch to clips is such a letdown I cannot begin to describe how disappointed I am over this decision. Please, BioWare, for the love of all who find pleasure in shooting things 10000x more than they need to be shot, bring back the original style for ME3.
  • End Boss: Please come up with something that is more challenging than an overstuffed terminator which only requires hiding behind an object and blasting its eyes out. Saren in the first was quite frankly one of the funnest and most rewarding game beasties in a long time (depending on level) and this thing makes me yawn in comparison. I know you can do it, you have proved it once already.
This list of shame is what grates on me most and would certainly weigh on my decision to buy further installments of this otherwise wonderful game.

Well, I found the end boss endurable as it isn't really meant to be an end boss - that is, the game continues, and while your team and yourself may perish on the mission, they're really a smaller threat than the Reapers (despite being agents for them). The shape, and reasoning therefore was rather cheesy in my mind (so the reapers were built from species that looked like bugs? Reminds me of the bug you see when you first go to recruit Tali).

The weapon are an interesting change, and so long as you're fighting enemies with guns, and moving forward, you shouldn't run out of ammo too quickly - at least, that has been my experience.

The ducking into cover does seem to change the way you must move in combat - pretty much straight lines now. This is understandable, but once I got used to it I actually kind of liked it - sprinting forward, then sliding and crouching next to a crate as rockets/biotics went off overhead.

I'm on console version adn the sprint and cover buttons are the same for a good reason - seamless transition between them. IF im holding the run button i want it to be smart and realize that im gonna cover behind that wall instead of running uselessly into it. The mechanic mirror's GoW in that you cannot run around obstacles without your character trying to cover behind it on accident. It's a flaw, but an acceptable one in my opinion since you learn to steer clear of walls while sprinting, and the seamless transtiton between running and covering hassaved my ass more than once.

Should have added that melee now is pretty much a lesson in futility. In the original if you were swarmed or wanted to perform the human cannonball, the mouse button was the best. Now, you just get your butt handed to you with little chance of punching the horde into omni-gel. I liked working towards ultra-heavy armor and weapons and using them. It brought a nice change to the game and now it's...bleh.

edit

RK5: That's part of the problem with the game, it is not distinct enough between console and pc versions.

I agree about the End boss, the whole mission was VERY short. I thought they would make it a lot longer.

Well the collectors are modified protheans (and quite possibly other races)

as for the reapers, I guess it takes years to build just one reaper which is why the extinction of all life takes so long

i still dont know WHY they need the organics to make reapers, and what the point of the reapers is supposed to even be or why they keep doing it and only advanced races. I mean, you're melting them into a pot and slushing them into metal....?

Ah, the end boss. I barely beat it because I was laughing so hard. The little agonized, mechanical screams it makes? The way it looked like a weird baby metal skeleton having a seizure? That was NARM material x1000.

I hate it when I try to run away from a cover, my Shepard just comes out from the cover, then go right back to it.

See thread "Not Feeling It" for more bad impressions.

My gripe was with only being able to use one power at once. People play wizard types to be able to rain down destruction one after another at the same time. Whoever thought this was cool: A jedi uses Force Choke, "Oh let me count down - 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, phew, finally. Now I can use Force Throw on you." Not cool.

Also I felt rushed and forced playing the game. By the time I'm done with the main plot, all I did was rushing around doing team members' quests. It's like this: do 3 - 4 loyalty missions, oh go do the main quest - no you can't wait - do more team member quests - oh another main quest misssin - no you can't wait for this either. By the time I'm done, I've done 10 loyalty quests, and none of the exploration quests.

Combat...I love the combat improvement, the FPS aspect, and all of it. What I thought was idiotic was how it automatically moves your character when you use the right thumbstick to aim around. I'm going "WTF" all the time. Other than that involuntary movement, combat was the greatest improvement IMO (story depth was great as always).

Oh, and did I mention that aim assit, the aim assit present at veteran level that moves your crosshair while you're ready to take the shot?

The game also has bad "out of cover firing angles"

like if you're near a corner, and they're alongside a wall you cant shoot them really without leaving cover
