I have issues with tunnel vision myself. Things that help me: checking the surroundings each time I reload (I forget to do this often), and listening carefully for sneaky enemies behind me. When I first started, I'd play a kit with combat drone and set it to watch my flank. When it started zapping, I knew it was time to consider relocating.

^ When it starts zapping, I turn around as the Volus Merc to deploy another pet, wave my hand like Obi Wan Kanobi and say "This isn't the Volus you are looking for."

Awareness comes with experience. You get some sort of internal clock and just know when to GTFO, because you feel you're getting flanked.
I did a Platinum solo, so you would think I have good awareness. HA! I still get jumped on by husks/abominations (which my friends kindly detonate on me) on a regular basis. Hell, even Praetorians constantly sneak up on me. It's a flying space crab with lazers... HOW IS IT SO SNEAKY? Not to mention all those things still happen with Geth Scanner equipped. ![]()

That sounds pretty normal to me. We all get ambushed occasionally. Praetorian or Dragoon surprise buttsex is pretty common as they make no sound. Some things are simply unavoidable as the game tends to spawn enemies right behind you or even on top of you.

No amount of awareness can save you from cerberus BS.
If you're fighting other factions, always try to check your surroundings every few seconds. Sound cues are very helpful. And never camp in a place where enemies can approach you from more than 2 directions.
Learning spawn locations is very useful as you can keep an eye for potential troll spawns.

Lack of spatial awareness was also why some people thought "mirror's edge" sucked.
"Dur I keep falling off ledges because I can't see my character"
"well have you tried REMEMBERING THE LEDGE IS ONLY 3 FEET WIDE THEN NOT WALKING 4 FEET, GENIUS? You can see your feet! You don't NEED to see behind you to remember how wide the platform is.
But yes. This is also why scrubs rely on Geth Scanner so much.
On certain map though, where its extremely easy to get flanked (London, for example), its more understandable.

My advice is to always be in an area where there's lots of cover, and an escape route. That way, if you're getting shot then you can quickly react and stick to a low cover or take few steps back and hide behind a cover. This means don't be greedy for scores and chase things out on open maps. Know the limits and the extents of punishment that some kits can take, as well as the mobility they possess to get out of said situations. Like caineghis said, doing solos developed this ability for me. While it was annoying and made me cry, now I mostly die while I'm trying to revive a pug

In my experience solos and duos can improve your awareness by alot. Having good earphones helps hear the slightest enemy sounds too...
Edit* The more teammates you have watching your back the more Dependant you become on the eyes of others. The less teammates around the less Dependant you become of them which puts you in more of a position to improve your self sufficiency and survival
well said !

Spatial awareness? Don't need it. I've got 6 medi-gels.
and some how you use them all in the first 2 waves.

Avoid "target fixation." Fixating on a single target (usually a boss) for too long trying to get that kill while other enemies close and flank you. Why soft cover and constant movement is so vital on the higher levels. Now if I can just follow my own advice ![]()
