For me, one of the best game of E3 together with Star Wars Battlefront.

I like the new setting but I hope that BW will bring the Milky Way and our ending choices will have a role in this or some future installment. Now I am wondering about many things with Andromeda like; at what point did these guys left our galaxy, how long were they traveling, are the Krogan cured from the genophage, are the geth with us, will we see the Quarians and Volus behind their masks and suits, will there be some characters from the trilogy (minor ones ofc), will every race appear in the new galaxy or some will be left behind and etc.

In any case I loved the trailer and I am very excited to hear more news about Mass Effect.

Hm...

The trailer shows us a human in a combat suite which will be replaced by the true character down the road.  The combat helmet masks the face so why not use the final character? Perhaps the suite is also a filler.  Great! Bio is showing us things that won't  necessarily appear in the consumer version.

Now look at the hand weapon. Familiar? You'd think that "..long after the events of the original trilogy" weapon tech would advance. after all, I don't see us use flint locks from 3 centuries ago. Certainly, bridge view , star navigation computer and jump tech advanced (from the trailer). Why use hand weapons the equivalent of flint locks? Don't tell me they have shot guns as well?

Ok, so Bio wants to show off the frostbite 3 engine visual real-time procedural shading and texturing techniques.

see: http://developer.amd...AMD_Session.pdf  if you need to read some gritty details. We also saw jumping and we know how well that worked out to be in DAI. Jumping caused all kinds of problems in DAI. So, during planet exploration is the Macko also a jumping Hare? or requires to be one? 'Cause I fervently wish jumping to go away and disappear foreever. Is this trailer just a show off and NOT representative of the final product?  Will the team also jump?

Let's talk navigation.

Seems like the target navigation selection is simplified. Finally!  Also the Nav computer shows possible planet targets from a database of explored systems. Selection is done via hand gestures.. what no EDI /AI// voice interface?  Either way, I like the new approach.

Macko.

Seriously! All that advance navigation/flying tech and we can't use an ati-grav capable exploration vehicle with hovering capabilities?  We need to use a mechanical one with wheels?  Sure, I like the Macko concept from ME1 but, guys, what ever happened to Bio's famous line about "innovation"? Is flying over terrain not a Frostbite 3 feature?

Combat

Ground combat is a staple of the series. Visually impressive cinematics with the non-representative human coming down on the alien. But, I hope you realize that high in the air and you are exposed to enemy fire quite easily.  BTW, Bio, will we see these combat scenes rendered in the actual game? Also, will we have a ground  Battle Tank with selectable weapons loadout controlled by an AI?  Hm.. forget  that, about the AI, I mean... given my DAI experience with one.

Planet Terrain

Yep, already seen these in prior teasers.. nothing new. They look good. Key question. Will we be able to interact with the environment or is it just a pretty background?

All these people with placards saying 'The end of Mass Effect is nigh'.

First, what a baseless statement. Literally. We still know next to nothing and we've got people declaring it's not a true Mass Effect game. If you can't accept that a universe has more stories to tell outside the lives of one wo/man and their companions, then I feel sorry for you.

Not to mention that the sheer majority of you will still buy it anyway.

Re: Combat, I know a lot of people here didn't play ME3's multiplayer but the N7 character's movement with the jetpack and melee is very reminiscent of the Turian's abilities in MP. I think this could be confirmation that some of the abilities only seen in the last game's MP will possibly see their way into the campaign, which is promising as the MP was arguably far better than the SP on combat (despite the SP's combat being good still). I think the jetpack will also be used as the jump ability when exploring on foot.

As for the Mako vs. Hammerhead, Hammerhead was always fragile and sacrificed armor for agility. If I had a choice when exploring alien planets, I would go Mako.

I believe it's best that Bio takes this opportunity to write a new book on the Mass Effect universe, unencumbered by the past. Start fresh, so to speak.  I certainly wish to forget the ME3 ending. Those ending choices were a croc of crappy crapola for sure.

If Andromeda is the equivalent of humanity's Ark with its inherent survival and colony buildup, growth and expansion, why bring in the past? Your questions are interesting from a historical viewpoint but ultimately bring no value to the colony survival. Perhaps the colony's computer can access and answer these questions or even the onboard ship's computer. The current Andromeda situation is long after the events of the original trilogy.

My guess is that Andromeda starts with a main colony world as the prime base of operations. A "Normandy" type exploration vessel, possibly a naval cruiser size one. In a nutshell, the captain of said vessel (the main protagonist) is charged with exploration, identifying new colony worlds , resources and possible threats, enemies and potential allies.

Now, the Krogans would be awesome ground combat troops. But, in a space sci-fi universe, orbiting bombardement will make mince meat of ground troops. Krogan or otherwise. So, I'm unsure how this will play out in the game.

Yeah. Lots of possibilities. When I first suggested something for ME4 in these forums, I thought the game should start with someone looking for Shepard, who, in the end, would be the main character again. Maybe taking Shep's crew with him in the journey. Well, it seems there's nothing like that in the story. But it could be that you would change your character during the game. I'm truly intrigued by that information about the PC, even if not at all excited with the trailer.

                                                                                                  <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>

Nope, Ain't gonna happen. Shep is long dead possibly forgotten or is now brought up in history classes.

This is Bio's opportunity to refresh the ME universe. Humanities struggle for survival, which oddly enough, is similar to humanities' struggle during the First Contact Wars.

On thing I like about this trailer.

Bioware wisely omitted the phrase "choice matters".

I look forward to the next ME game. The trailer was all right I guess, even if the music wasn't very fitting for a ME trailer.

Well, at least they're bringing exploration back, which is a good thing, in my opinion.

I have made my peace with the trilogy and it's ending long ago, so there are no hard feelings on my part.

I first saw some thread titles complaining about the music...was wondering what the hell could be wrong...

So I started watching the video and...thought I was actually watching the trailer for a new Red Dead Redemption game or something :D They could have made a more synthesized version of a cowboy song if they really wanted to...

Apart from that, I like what I'm seeing. Although I do fear the story will suffer from the whole exploration theme (like maybe it did in DA:I, I hear?). Wonder what's up with those towers. One and a half years to go, yeeeeeeeeehaw! =D

The new setting is 200+/- years in the future right? My guess is that the Council had a plan B and sent colonists (survivors/chosen ones/whatever) to survive the Reaper war and begin life anew in the Andromeda galaxy and thus to survive. I agree about the story with you; establish colonies, find resources, colonize new planets and meet new alien lifeforms.

I think some of my questions are important to know for the new setting like; if the Krogan are cured then they would expand much more rapidly than the other races (they are very adaptable species too) and who knows maybe they will become a threat again, the geth presence changes many things, they are AI, will the colonists restrict AI research as the Council or will they support this, will they help the Quarians with their immune system which would ease and maybe even increase Quarian population, will the Rachni come too, they like the Krogan also expand quickly and could pose a threat.

That's if they will even make it to the game :'(

I only wish Bioware, to show with ME:A that they still might do great games, after DA2 and mess with ME3. Good luck.

8:10 it will jump

The companions probably also.

27:54 give the player many tools as possible

For the weapons maybe take place in not so far future like a millenia or more perhaps centuries decades after the ME3, like the M-7 Lancer in ME3.

The future in the ME universe doesn't have to work anything like our modern day and especially past human development. Whats to say a weapon can't last centuries in the field?

Space Westerns are a thing, after all, and exploring and settling in a new galaxy could easily fit into that sensibility.

It's certainly true that space westerns are a thing, and also that the music evokes the spirit of exploring a new frontier, but it's also important to understand the music in the context for which the trailer was designed: It opened the EA E3 presentation with no announcement as to what it would be. You were clearly supposed to think that it was a new western franchise or something for a while before you "clicked" that it was ME.

When you click on a labelled YouTube link, you lose that.
