More likely because even three years later the endings are still highly radioactive.  And yet still considered "Art"

I'm pretty sure they'd canonize Synthesis if they thought they could possibly get away with it.

Well it was clearly written to be the "good" ending, so I agree.

Are we supposed to be excited about this?

You've shown us nothing unless this truly represents the direction of your game (and it had better not).

Mass Effect was once the only passably hard scifi franchise out there, with some Star Trek mixed in. It had degraded over the course of the series but this is your chance to recover. What this trailer says is either "We literally have nothing to show you." or "We decided Mass Effect is basically going to be Halo from now on."

Guess I shouldn't be surprised since I just heard a hideously ugly rumor that the Dragon Age team is putting machine guns in Thedas.

Bioware: Financially Solvent. Creatively Bankrupt.

I think Dreamgazer would like a word with you :P

Alternatively, 'We have much more to show you when more content is locked down and we're closer to release'. But why miss out on the doom and gloom, right?

Claiming they're 'creatively bankrupt' on the back of the first trailer seems... hasty.

Don't be hasty. (Buh-ra-rum.)

It would be hasty but for their previous games.

This refrain always kicks up "you don't know yet, it could finally be good this time, they promised they'd change" and then the game comes out and they always disappoint. Inquisition reversed the trend slightly from its previous installment but only because the second installment was so cheap, and even so Inquisition is the most toothless game Bioware has ever made.. And Mass Effect 3's only area of improvement was the gameplay, while everything else continued to slide down, graphics, plot logic, and in particular the sci-fi ness of it.

it was much more military dudebro shooter. It was as if EA pressured Bioware to make it feel more like Halo. Kai Leng is symbolic of this. Making that tool into Shepard's supposed opposite number diminished him and the entire franchise. And the goons looked more roided out and there was lots of military music.

So you get to this trailer which is wild west music and barren planets. I'm well aware that its entirely possible that they could turn it around and this could be a very sci fi installment. Anything is possible. But its EA and the version of Bioware that's not really Bioware anymore. I think I'm quite justified to think this way about this game. Thankfully, as Larian, Obsidian, CD Project Red, and Interplay have stepped up to give us the fantasy Bioware won't anymore, there are others who will give us the sci fi Bioware is likely not going to deliver. Then Bioware will become irrelevant and EA will cannibalize them because thats what EA does. It eats promising franchises.

Very true. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results, but you also can't ignore patterns and trends.

As to your comments on the trailer, are you suggesting we are going to get Mass Effect: New Vegas?

Well, what new things have they offered us to do in TW3 that they didn't offer us in TW1?  I'm asking.  I tried to play TW2 and fell asleep before I got out of the tutorial, not once but twice.

About the only thing that I have an issue with is how much they relied on "tech" both figuratively and literally as a "needs to an end".  Hey, can't figure out how they get from here to there?  Reaper tech.  Hey, can't figure out this works?  Prothean tech.  Hey, can't figure out what this does?  Space magic tech.  After a while, you kind'a get tired of hearing that word being thrown around.

Also, I will agree that ME3 did feel too militaristic.  Although, this is more of a personal way to go about telling the story, rather than some type of plot logic or conspiracy theory that you have.  All in all, it was supposed to be the ending of the story, however.  So, you're going to have the Millennium Falcon blowing up the Death Star.  You're going to have lots and lots of action.  There's a reason why it ended like this.  You might be right, EA might be cleverly holding the purse strings on everything creative that comes across their desk.  I don't think so.

Until they prove otherwise, EA is okay in my book.

I almost wish. I could swallow the idea of a wild west Mass Effect if the plot and setting were as strong as New Vegas.

I might have spoken hastily there. I wasn't in gaming when the first one came out. I was told that we very seldom get good strong detail oriented sci fi and that Mass Effect was among the very few. Turning it towards more action schlock takes it away from being something we have very little of to something we have tons of in gaming.

What I will say is, when I say "hard scifi" I mean by video game standards. The first game was very hard sci fi by video game standards even if that makes it still kind of soft by scifi novel standards.

LOL, Mass Effect was hardly not a hard sci-fi since its technology is derive from space magic.

What I liked about Mass Effect's science was that once you accepted the Mass Effect itself, almost all the derived technology made sense. Each new thing wasn't a new strain on your Suspension of Disbelief. This was the way I referred to ME as "hard" science fiction, though maybe that's not the correct use of the term.

Especially if exploration with the Mako is required because the game is massive. Imagine if the Cluster takes 100+ hours to explore?

No offense but why is it always sci-fi fans that are the most hostile, when it should be the opposite?

If MEA has a Wild Wasteland trait, I will withdraw all my complaints.

If people have problems with the upcoming title they should be allowed to voice their discontent and concerns.

Yah, I had a little bit of a hard time accepting that one, but once I did...     Well, look at me now.   Look at my sig.   Look at me in my 4 t-shirts, 2 posters, and a sweatshirt.

Smooth.  Like butta.

EDIT :  Oh yah, and a Normandy SR2 statue.

...........but you also can't ignore patterns and trends.

Indeed, if certain patterns and trends (good or bad) have appeared several times in past titles chances are that future titles may have similar trends and patterns.

Yes, you go ahead and keep posting that same canned response. Meanwhile, everyone else can try and have an actual discussion.

Yet that "same canned response" was in response to someone saying he shouldn't voice an opinion.

While I don't agree with what you say, because it's including me in the mass. But, I'll defend to the death you're right to say it. Like any fandom, you've got your friendly peeples (Moi included)... Then  -_- ...there's the ones who ruin it for the rest of us.

What bothers me isn't that people post discontent and criticism - let's look over at the nearly 400 page DA feedback thread for example - it's the knee jerk reactions people love to throw around. It just seems bizarre when people praise stuff like Star Trek, then turn around and flip their lids at every little thing - like clearly they would not be welcome in the fiction they love.  :P
