Play as non-humans?

And DAIs race thing has no bearing. That was a peace offering to old fans since the negative buzz was building over the human only PC.
MEs never had multiple races, and there was never hate over not having it.

There are quite a few replies i'd like to type...but imma stick with that was uncalled for.
Ive been around long enough to not jump to any conclusions based off of info that DOESNT exist. Only thing it says is that WE WILL PLAY AS HUMAN. It doesnt say WE WILL NOT PLAY AS OTHER RACES or ONLY PLAY AS HUMAN. so imma wait till it is NO IFs ANDs or MAYBEs.
Why would they specify one race if multiple races can be played? Wouldn't it be way less confusing to just outright say "You can play as multiple species"?

I'm reserving judgement in the actual game, but I'm very disappointed in this turn of events.
My accepted threshold for a "Humanity's #1" or "Earth/human colonies are special" plot is much lower now, but my expectations for such a plot have unfortunately risen.
The Hierarchy, STG, Council, Urdnots, Flotilla, Hegemony and whatever else take this defeat with humility.

it was also something that the developers had wanted to do but didn't initially have the time to devote to it. thankfully the backlash over clearly rushed expansion and sequel resulted in more development time being granted. we currently have no way of knowing whether or not the same can be said of ME:A
as for Mass Effect not getting hate over it, there has been some negativity but you're correct that it was nowhere near the levels the DA:I announcement recieved. the fact that Shep being the first human spectre was an important plot point of the first game and humanity fitting into the council meant that an alien wouldn't have worked quite so well
but now we've done that. we've had a human centric plot. time to share the spotlight in my opinion

I for one would have loved to play as other races (just the council races), as for me it adds replay value because I'm sick of Human's dominating in sci-fi & fantasy & being the only real 'hero race' (my opinion), as all other races seem to embody one type of personalty/beliefs only, yet Humans always remain diverse, but at this moment in time we know so little, will they have different origin stories like Shepard did? Different types of personality? We'll find this out later I know, still, bit of a shame really.
Just my opinion

I would have liked to play a non-human but hopefully they can focus more on other things like classes and story

Some people say they want to play as a non-human, why? What is the appeal?

It's the option to be a human but not look it. No one asks for the opportunity to be a non-sentient stationary plant.

To play as something that is unique.
To see the galaxy through another perspective.
To play in ways that don't work as a human.
Because they like the races.
I can go on.

I would like to play as the companions on personal side quests. So whoever the Asari is, we could play as her for a while and make storyline choices. That would be cool.

Sure, would be great to be able to plyas one but as long as we're around plenty of aliens, all good.
You know, I actually liked playing as a human in the original trilogy since I had to deal with so much discrimination there. Be interesting to see that from other sides.
