I reckon it must have something to do with the major themes of the game - a new frontier, a lawless society, no strong central government, etc.

The survey leak talked a lot about outlaws and colonists fighting for resources, not to mention hostile 'natives' (in the khet?), etc.

I think this is most likely the case. Especially with the Arkcon's "Pathfinder Initiative." I read that as a Pioneer/New Frontier theme, that and another thread mentions the video is scanning Geological structures, seems to me they're trying to colonize in Andromeda.

Seems to me like they're going for a space cowboy theme. Honestly, i like it. Are you not a fan of Firefly or Cowboy Bebop?

Consider the context. Imagine watching the trailer for Dances with Wolves (1990), and suddenly you hear heavy Rave music in the background. BioWare made a bad mistake here. I know its just a trailer, but.... We are in the Andromeda galaxy, and then you hear JC.

I can't take it..

Hey I get it. Mass Effect music before this was highly synth, and epic musical scores.

But consider the following quote from ElitePinecone:

I get the feeling that in this game you're more akin to Pioneers. Maybe Andromeda is totally new in this game. Your character is exploring it for the first time, and there are no rules out there. Personally I think the music ties in that concept perfectly. I also think the music gives the sense of making this totally alien place feel more like home. Just my two cents.

Regardless of music, i really look forward to this. I'm liking every new piece of information i hear (relating to the game, not music ;p).

My opinion is that we didn't need this music to tell us anything about the setting. When you travel to an unknown galaxy, you're in uncharted territory. Secondly, I don't want to feel at home in the Andromeda galaxy, we're not suppose to. I would've prefered music that captured the mystery of this alien place, a sense of wonder and fear.

Does anyone think that the enemies at around 1:30 are Turians?  They have Turian-like legs, though they are hard to see.

Just by looking at the helmets, I think they are. I could be wrong tho.

It was music for the announcement trailer that they used to make it stand out from everything else that had dubstep and techno music.

I guarantee that the rest of the game's soundtrack will not be like this. You don't need to worry so much about it.

I agree with Pinecone. These days, it's all electro and dubstep and other bollocks (YES, I SAID IT, NOW COME AT ME.) and not a single bit of good music in sight.

I'd even be game for Johnny Cash to form a decent (read, enough to consider) part of the soundtrack. As long as it creates a perfect atmosphere, of course.

Just posted this over on the other E3 trailer breakdown thread, wasn't sure which one saw the most activity.

Anyway, I couldn't say for certain, but I think we can see the "ARK" on the galaxy map proper and not just in the blink and you'll miss it snippet when the N7 is flicking through the various locales at the beginning. It's just below the abbreviation "TMP" south-east of the plotted FTL destination about 44 seconds into the trailer.

Sorry I couldn't just take a pic, I haven't posted on the BSN in ages.

I read "ST" below "TMP", not "ARK"....

BTW: left of "your location" there's a "human" symbol; what's on the left of "FTL destinatio"?

Sorry, I probably wasn't very clear, the "ARK" is actually in between the "TMP" and the "ST", to the right-hand side. If you can spot the line connecting all three of the locations together you should be able to see it clearly.

As to the icon beside the "FTL Destination", I'm not entirely certain. Could it be a waypoint perhaps?

Sorry, I can't see any "ARK"... It looks like there are some numbers between TMP and ST.

I just uploaded a screenshot to this link: http://imgur.com/nsMOSQ4

Maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me, or maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I thought for sure it read "ARK".

Whoops!! I looked at the bottom of the video, under the "screen" he's using, where there a "glowing globe" and big TMP and ST signs.

The one you found definitely looks like "ARK". Could it be the next hub world?

Not sure if anyone mentioned this but the things being talked about as being 'beetles' look much more like giant ticks, which is giving me the hebbie jeebies as we speak.

It may very well be that Citadel-esque concept we got on N7 Day last year.

Yes, sure.

My question is why TMP and ST are so important to have been put down there in evidence and not this supposed ARK...

Yes, sure.

My question is why TMP and ST are so important to have been put down there in evidence and not this supposed ARK...

By this you mean why "TMP" and "ST" appear at the bottom of the screen when the N7 is flicking through the planets, yes?

If so, I think it's simply that because the view of these planets has occupied most of the space on screen, the galaxy map has "crumbled" (for lack of a better term) below the view screen. So in fact that "glowing globe" at the bottom of the screen is actually the very same planet with "Your Location" written beside it once the N7 has switched back to the galaxy map proper. So it stands to reason that the "crumbled" abbreviation for "ARK" has merely fallen outside the camera angle we have of the other "crumbled" locations, whether it be by coincidence or design on Bioware's part.

Or at least, that's what I think it is, I could be wrong.

It could be, but I'm not totaly persuaded; I think there is room to show ARK down there.

Nothing important, anyway. I suppose...

I am a bit disappointed that this is all that was shown. I expected gameplay and hoped for a release this holiday or at least within the next 12 months. It has already been more than 3 years since ME3 was released! At the very least a few seconds of actual gameplay would have been nice and would have provided more room for speculation.

Yet I have one wild thought: Do we know Mass Effect Andromeda still has third person shooting?

The trailer showed a jetpack, climbing and an aerial attack. These features seem to lend themselves better to first person gameplay. Also, third person shooting seems to be pretty much "out" these days. In contrast, first person shooting with abilities seems to be the hot thing right now: see Destiny, Overwatch.

It also makes sense if Bioware wants to deliver deeper and more diverse combat and include a mix of corridor shooting and big battle arenas, that work with vehicular combat.

It sounds like they're taking a lot of cues from the last Bioware team that made the trilogy and from DA Inquisition. Remnants and Protheans, Keth (assuming they are a race) and Batarians. And there's other things from the survey leak that are clearly improved ideas from Inquisition and the trilogy. Hopefully there isn't too much symmetry, though. Would seem to kill the believably of it...though the Catalyst did say that the same patterns and events happened over and over again in the milky way, so perhaps they're going to use that as a basis for the history and lore of the andromeda.

TICKS. IN MASS EFFECT.

I'll just stay in my Mako, thank you very much... (No, but really, ticks are to me what spiders are to the internet)

People complain about music here? Really? Oh my...

It seems to me that  I will enjoy the game after all. Didn't see that coming.

Can't wait! :)
