Shepard isn't N7 to me, there were other N7 recruits.. Vega being one of them.  Wasn't Anderson an N7 grad and had the honor to wear the insignia in battle?  And didn't in ME3 the alliance recruit anyone that could hold a gun into the N7 program?

Shepard is still alive though that isn't relevant now. My 'human' will still be a Black man with a crazy beard and moustache, his name doesn't matter.

You see, as Jacob is the fan favorite ME character of all time, EAWare really listened to their player base and made Jacob the new face of the franchise. GG.

Shepard was confirmed long ago not to be returning as a protagonist. Also, Shepard is dead in all versions of Control and Synthesis and also dead in Low EMS Destroy. Even if the majority of players ended up with High EMS Destroy that is still a large number of people combined who would have Shepard dying at the end of their game.

 

I think Vega is unlikely because is an established character and can't be customized. Bioware going the Witcher/Geralt route with Mass Effect would be controversial, and I can't see them doing it.

 

The best guess is that the new N7 protagonist is a human character we've never met before, allowing the player to customize the character to their liking, and giving the player some freedom to determine that character's personality.

I mean that trailer was good but at the same time it annoyed me so much.

 

Short of the hearing the word "Commander" that trailer had every possible call-back to Shepard.

I'd like at least a "torch-passing" of some sort from the old trilogy to this new game. If they set up a "Mass Effect Keep" type of website like they did with the Dragon Age Keep, so that players could pre-select some decisions to import for the purposes of world-creating, then it'd be possible for a character from the old games to maybe be involved (from a story standpoint) in the initiation of this new mission. Just a short cameo, of course.

 

Based on imported choices, maybe Shepherd is the one who orders this mission and sends the teams on it (if player selected high EMS destroy). Or, maybe it's a cameo from Garrus, or Liara, etc. 

 

I don't actually believe any of that will happen but it would be a nice bit of fan-service if there were some sort of torch-passing cameo going on to help usher the trilogy fans into the new game.

 

If they don't do anything like that, I'll still be fine with it. But...a guy can dream, can't he?
