In a perfect world, disapproved. In reality? I don't think they could've pulled it off. Sadly the ME races aren't like in DA (sadly from the protagonist point of view, otherwise great), in DA every race is just a different hight of human. Tall human with horns, shorter human with pointy ears, shortest human who looks fat.

In Mass Effect they are so diverese, both biologically and historically that I don't think multiple races would work with the budget and time table they have.

Let DA have multiple races and ME the human only. As an alternative ME could get alien race only spinoffs, not sure if many people would want to play such a game sadly

I'm fine with. I'd like to play as Another race in SP, but only if well-done.

I actually thought ME2 and ME3 toned down the humans are special rhetoric a lot from ME1 (I mean just remember those speeches from the Council dies endings), but I don't actually disagree with you on how ME3 did a bad job on using other species as expies of interesting traits.

I just think fiction with fantasy races is always going to be human centric, in the sense that all the races will be humans.

ME2 hit us over the head with the "Humans are special" idea.

I'm indifferent. But, it is probably a good thing ultimately, as this game seems to effectively reboot the series. New galaxy, new rules, undoubtedly new races to encounter. Until they have some time to flesh them out and give the various races and/or factions an identity, probably best to keep it simple with just humans.

Some old races will be in. Krogans Are practically confirmed (see the trailer).

I approve.

Playable Aliens are for multiplayer IMO.

I get the reasons why they aren't making playable aliens but it's still a huge disappointment. We already had three games playing as a human, and I've been excited about the idea of playing as one of the alien characters since I started with the franchise. This game is a like a new beginning for Mass Effect, and it would've been the ideal opportunity to introduce playable aliens. If not now, when?

Edit: Aliens in MP is no real substitute, as there's no story and roleplaying involved.

Apparently the answer of when is never.

I disapprove. Only one species makes for a lesser replay value.

I would be fine with human-only if we get to have at least some origin stories for him/her which make each playthrough a little different.

Multiple voices would also be nice.

Too bad, so sad... This is not how I thought Mass Effect was going to evolve into. So much potential... and yet we are back at square one with only the Mako, the N7 tag and Johnny Cash music in a Western desert setting to build our hopes on...

As long as the focus is on the SP I don't care what race I play.

After seeing what happened to the inquistor, I'm glad ME:A will have a set race; much eaiser to integrate into the story.

Remember, if the survey leak is accurate, we'll be heavily concentrating on a situation that will "determine fate of humanity" by finding them a new home. Being human looks like it's going to be a significant narrative element of ME:A.

I definitly approve. Not because can't imagine myself playing as nothing but a human (though I do prefer them), but because I prefer it when they focus on depth rather than breadth in their protagonists. So I would've been fine with being limited to Asari or Turian or Krogan as well.

I approve. I like the connection to our race in a future that could be plausable. Don't get me wrong, would still like to have the option to play another race, but the logistics. Forget about it.

Hey now, don't knock the Space Western Genre.

100% approve - less resources spent on playable species (that most will play as human anyway) = a more focussed story.

Yeah playing a Turian/Asari/Krogan/Quarian whatever would be really cool but way way too much work to do any of them well. Aka not just a reskin model but all voice, all dialogue, all decisions etc = impossible.

I think the game is better off for it. How many different races could/should the game realistically offer anyway? Dragon Age sort of got away with this because the different races, of which there are a paltry four compared to the amount in Mass Effect, are basically just different degrees of human, not to mention don't have any processing to create unique voices, which is the case for maybe 3 of the known races in the original trilogy, as opposed to just having 4 normal voices to cover both genders. Trying to cater to that would spread the protagonist pretty thin, which is kind of what happened to the Inquisitor.

If you played a krogan, you can be sure that you won't get a lot of unique dialogue that would be typical of your standard issue warrior race. It would just overlap with the human for the most part.

Humans are humans. Actual important question: Will this human be cool?
