First off the writing needs to be more nuanced than what's gone before in Bioware games. The world should not be so black and white but shades of grey. I don't want simplistic lines of separation between Paragons and Renegades, be it the PC or NPCs. It shouldn't be so cut and dry as this guy is good, that guy is bad, I'd like to see a blurring of the lines because there should be times when you're forced to do distasteful things for the greater good without some silly labels being attached to your actions.

Reputation points should be scrapped in favour of how people in the game respond to you in your dealings as a result of your past actions. Having a good reputation shouldn't open up more dialogue over a bad reputation, it should open up different dialogue. This increases the value of replaying the game. I also want to see romance to be written in to the story, or at least have its own back story that develops over the course of the game/s, rather than, as has been in all prior Bioware games, in for its own sake.

Finally, I'd like stealth to be a viable option in Andromeda. This would be an entirely new way of playing a Mass Effect game. I'm not talking about turning it in to something like Thief and it definitely shouldn't detract from combat, but where combat is avoidable in a story sense, it would be nice to be avoidable in a gameplay sense. Along the lines of how you can take a stealthy option at times in SWTOR if you're a Shadow/Assassin class.

Also:

  • Better animation, especially in body language (seriously, hire an expert).
  • High number of stock faces, if not every NPC unique. I don't want to travel 1000 systems and see millions of clones.
  • Intelligent environments that allow for multiple approaches to the target area. Not every route needs to be linear.
  • A strong antagonist rather than a generic enemy. Someone like Saren rather than Illusive Man/Harbinger/Sovereign.
  • Toggle Helmet. If you remove this again I'll rage.
  • No Fetch quests. Not a single one. It's lazy game design. Give us interesting things to find in exploration and reward us for it.
  • Regularly placed Medical Packs like in ME3 rather than making us to traipse back to our ship (camp) like DA:I.

@In Exile:  Also just started playing ME again - and while I don't care much for the awe factor, I will say that I feel like several NPCs have referenced both my "Colonial" and "War Hero" status and I like that a lot, I also like how "human" I am... that's a HUGE call for me to be glad we're playing one race (again I wouldn't care if it were Krogan, so long as it's one race)... I also just regained an appreciation for "Shepard" in the sense that he/she is the main character of a trilogy.  I think it's a strong aspect of the series... I actually find myself looking forward to carrying this new Shepard into two more games even knowing the hideous ending that awaits.

I think ME does a lot more with it's one character than the DA franchise managed to do with its 3 (and I enjoyed DA:O and DA:I).

It's shocking how much - compared to even more recent Bioware games - ME1 reacts to your background. Honestly., so far ME1's reacted more to Torfan about as much as DA:I did to my being a Qunari. And being human in this game is intimately tied to the plot, in a way that makes the races feel truly separate.

The ending... the only way I can prepare myself for it mentally is to just dedicate this character from day one to the idea of Cerberus style Control. Except for the fact I'll have to froth at the mouth about this idea at every point during ME3, of course, because the writers went coo-coo for cocopuffs writing that ending.

I like everything I've heard so far, so I'll trust their vision. All I really want is better hairstyles. One thing BioWare has never been good at, at least for player characters. It seems every game has examples of really nice hairstyles that end up being exclusive to NPCs.

I agree in something, be great if there is more styles and they wouldn't look like plastic, static, if the main character is in a planet without her/his helmet the breeze should move her/his hair, if they have.

Hopefully some real in depth co-op and MP. ME3MP was great, DAMP was balls.

The coop with a history, great, the multiplayer with story would be like TitanFall, personally i didn't like that aspect of T.F., but if some could do it is Bioware.

The ability to make it clear to whoever is going to be Not!Liara that I'm not interested in being friends.

Working together is fine. Don't act like we're buddies.

A ship interior that is interactive, interesting and has a crew that feels like they live there too. ME3 took a step in the right direction by having crew members walk around and interact with each-other, so more of that please! MEA could take it a step further by personalizing character locations and have them play a part in conversations. If someone is working at a desk, why not have pictures of family? If they are alien, how about items that tell us something about their culture? Make the areas feel lived-in, don't make me think they stay put in one location 24/7 without the need to eat or chat or walk around! Or that they are content with a barren room that only has a cot and a table!. I'd also like to see background npcs use facilities even though you can't talk to them. Show them making coffee, using the sleeping pods, using the lockers etc.

Speaking of ship facilities, lets have more of them! A training room/gym? A rec room? I'm sure we'll have a cabin we can personalize again but I'd like that interaction to extend beyond the protagonist's room. Who else was annoyed we had a poker table but couldn't play? Or that we had empty room that served no purpose but to be empty (Thane's room in ME3) I couldn't have been the only one that wanted to click on things in the kitchen :D .It might seem like a waste to some, but for me, small stuff like this helps with my immersion.  A training room where you can spar with crewmates, a kitchen where you open a fridge and see food containers labeled "dextro only", A poker table you can actually interact with and play as a mini-game!

I love little details and interactivity, the more they can make the ship feel alive the better!

A training room for our main character test the turian female companion flexibility, not just for that maybe to train and get better with the melee attacks

- More advanced and impactful weapon customization. It was decent in ME3, I want it even better in ME:A.

- I want choices to affect the ending and other events in the story.

- Minimal collectibles. Or at least minimal chore collectibles, like shards in DA:I or all collectibles in Mass Effect 1. Collecting some unique gear for you character is fine. Collecting flags, notes, shards or whatever else like in Ubisoft games is a big no-no.

- Better equipment customization. More armors with interesting features and bonuses.

- Exploration should be interesting. I want this aspect to be inspired by Fallout 3&NV, Skyrim or Witcher 3, not DA:I.

- A lot of companion interactions. There is no need for 12 companions like in ME2, but ME3 cut that number in half and didn't increase content each character had.

- More in-depth characer progression, enable us to create some unique builds. In previous games you ended up maxing most (if not all) abilities by the end of the game - and abilities were too few.

- Classes should be as distinct and different from each other as possible. Bringing back the six class system from previous trilogy is fine, as long as we get new abilities for each.

- Ship customization! Make our ship a new, better Skyhold.

- More free movement in combat. Look at new Deus Ex for example. Levels should be built in such a way, as to enable the player to flank enemies, or take a high ground. Classes could differ in how much freedom they have in moving around the battlefield (with skills like Biotic Charge and more).

- Better command of our squadmates. If they remain beyond our control, maybe some sort of Tactics menu like in Dragon Age?

  • Multiplayer.
  • Co-op campaigns.
  • Completely customizable keybinding options for all game play modes.
  • Total abandonment of the O.B.T.R.T.A. or at the very least distinct coding for consoles and PCs.
  • Fluid SP combat. MP nailed this aspect, SP should follow suit while still retaining pause and take a nap for those that need it.
  • Single player in me wants better, more natural models. Faces can be too Uncanny Valley at times. Nice hair would be sweet.
  • Option to not engage enemies and try a stealth approach. Do I really need to shoot the **** out of everything I see?
  • More gray area in my diplomacy.
  • Genuine surprises in my random explorations. Fetching gets old in a real hurry.

2) An option to change appearance in game. Sometimes I like to age my characters or change their hairstyle or whatever in order to show time going by or a personality change, or I may just want to freshen up their look.

For the hair i agree, and if you could pay a  gene therapy, our main character won't age so much and would be shown through the trilogy.

5) Meaningful relationships, and romance arcs that include more than just three conversations and an obligatory pre-final-mission cuddle

6) Side quests that matter, and that are more complex than fetch-quests or kill X number of raiders

7) Alternate (non-violent) methods of completing certain objectives

8) A detailed CC with the option to edit characteristics during the game (see Mirror of Transformation)

I agree with those.

- the ability to have the main character use his/her middle finger instead of harsh dialogue

- ability to remove squadmates from the roster

- more renegade interrupts. ME3 needed a lot more

- be able to laugh at jokes no matter how bad the joke is

I could write a plethora of thing that ME:A should feature but I think certain things are more critical than others so here's the things that should be key features of the game.

1. Full Armour customisation. Not just different armour sets, full suit customisation so you can mix and match shoulder, chest, leg and arms. And not pairs, I want to be able to have lets say the left arm light armour and the right side heavy. And these should offer pro's and cons, like an increase in shields, weapon stability, and firing defence.

2. Full Vehicle customisation: Love the new Mako design, and the fact we can customise that is brilliant! But you want to be able to change your ships too!

3. Space flight: This is a sci-fi game so some space battles, or zero G exploration would be great! Maybe like Warframes Arcwing.

4. Better animations: It's 2015 and it's new gen time. It's time to ditch the old stock animations and introduce more Motion capture.

5. Different body types: Not just for the Main character but for NPC's. It may be the future but remember you'll have skinny people, husky people, and then muscle heads. Even the girls especially if they are going to be space explorers should have varying body types and not just sexy pin up. We need a woman who looks like she could rip a dick off with her pinky finger.

6. Better Character customisation: While I'm OK playing with the same face, sometimes a hair style change would go nice, or some different make up, and Tattoo's.

Or he wasn't recruited in ME1, shot and killed on Virmire and killed on the Citadel in ME3

From what the sticky thread in the forums states, there won't be any other playable race than humans; which makes sense really. The Mass Effect series has always been about humanities role in the universe and how it adjusts to the unknowable. It also wouldn't make sense to have an alien protagonist when you consider that N7 is going to have some sort of impact on the main character as well.

As for what I'd like to see, it'd be great if Bioware went back to using cinematic conversations instead of the opt-in conversations we saw in Dragon Age Inquisition. Opt-in conversations for sidequests takes away the personality of the person you're speaking with, and makes it feel less like a quest and more of a request. Speaking of sidequests, I'd also like them to be highly detailed. I think one good example of a well done sidequest is the quest you can take in DA:I in order to weaken one of the main villains commanders. It has a good blend of story, combat,  and consequences both in terms of the main story and the aftermath of the sidequests completion.

In terms of loot, I think it would be suitable to have a fixed (but sizable) amount of weapons, but having many aspects of them being customizable. Maybe have the base the weapon be upgradable (similar to ME3), and as you reach certain levels you gain a unique ability on it. To add a customization element to them, have it so that the modifiers you can put into the weapon are randomized (with higher rarity mods granting better bonuses). Armor can behave in the same manner (though without the leveling), in addition to having the ability to change the color and pattern options on it.

Multiplayer is something I hope to see return again, though I could live with it not being there. I might be worth making it a digital download, with physical disk buyers getting a code to access it for free, and those who wish to participate in the multiplayer only just paying a flat rate for it ($30 sounds reasonable if we're getting free content for MP again).

Outside of all that, just make sure you capture a sense of wonder again. It's a new galaxy, and even though we'll be seeing some of the same technology, weapons, and alien races, we still want to be amazed every once in awhile.

We have a Citadel-like hub and that is great, but...I want to see and explore a big city or cities. A city built by turians, hanar, batarians, or drell. We never landed on the planet of these species, and I would like to see their architecture. Either way cityscape exploration is a wish of mine. This can be new and exciting, sleek and glossy like Illium...

...or crumbling and dim, mysterious and foreboding like Feros.

For the former I would imagine the city/cities were built by the immigrant Milky Way species over a long colonization timeline. For the latter I would imagine the city/cities were built by a long forgotten lost or extinct Andromedan species.

Crew/Squad interaction: I would like to be able to hang out with my squad on a more casual level every now and then. Like the Citadel DLC it was awesome. I think I read earlier today (my apologizes as I can't remember who mentioned it or what thread it was in.) There was mention about the Poker table in ME3 for example. It would of been nice to sit down play poker with your squad.

i would really like that one of the deafult presets in the character customization to look exactly like default male Shepard, so i can select it,

mass effect isn't the same without him :(

(it's just an option among many, you don't need to use it  if you don't want to :)  )

Being the first of a new trilogy i hope they spend a lot of time on the basics.

  • World Building
  • Day/Night cycle (crucial for any game with large map areas, creates different moods and adds longevity of a zone)
  • Handmade Planetary Environments (gravity, oxygen, day duration, temperature, weather sand/rain/fire/meteor storms)
  • Realism/physics (the more real the better, i don't want to"fantasize" being in another galaxy, I wan't to "believe" it!)
  • Habitat and local alien species.
  • Gameplay
  • Animations (use of cut scenes)
  • Mechanics (Jump,crouch and sprint, combat/explore toggle.)
  • Difficulties
  • RPG elements
  • Story
  • continuity (will the theme carry across a series?)
  • Canon
  • Characters
  • Companions
  • Side quests
  • Romance

Things like number of companions and romances i'm happy to see reduced in first game of the series, just to focus on getting the world/game-play/story-theme right. Once that is sorted plenty of room for companions and romance options in the sequels.

I wonder what the timeline will be.

Will it have passed enough time for colonists to have built full cities? Or are we just beginning colonizing?
