Things I like about characters I don't like:
Wynne: I find the conversation at the Temple of Sacred Ashes really intruiging - I think it shows a different side to Wynne's irritating mother-hen tendencies, one which sadly doesn't come out or is criticised again during her personal quest. I also enjoy pissing her off and killing her by doing things such as defiling the ashes or destroying he circle.
Anders: The character development intended for him - to move from a jovial wisecracker that you couldn't quite trust in Awakening to a character that was much more sincere, who tried to do something about that damn chip on his shoulder, and get tragically consumed in the process, was a marvellous idea. The execution of that development completely lacking. I liked, however, that he had enough resolve to blow up a bloody chantry - although I wish he'd tried to justify that action much better in the game. I blame his VA partially for fluffing some of the funnier lines, but they were still damn funny. In short, I love Anders in concept, even if he's a bloody headache to play through in game.
Aveline: She's pretty dull, in my opinion, but she tanks like nothing else.
Fenris: Too broody with too little reward for my tastes in most banters and plot dialogue (this is my own fault for always taking Anders and Fenris out together), but I found his character arc - with his involvement with fog warriors on Seheron - really poignant, and tragic, and lovely. His personal scenes make up for his general demeanour. Fenris grows on me - I still find him and his anti-mage stuff a chore, but he grows. His views on elves - and his banters with Merrill - are really refreshing and interesting, and it's nice to see a nuanced perspective on the elves which doesn't clearly fall into a camp. Also, his VA, mmmmm.
Corypheus: Despite being the ultimate blander than bland cookie cutter villain which combines literally everything DA's taught you to hate - darkspawn, blood magic (required to break the veil), slave owners - I really like some of the relationship you see between him and Samson in thecodex entries: he almost regrets what's going on. There's something sincere to him, I think, when he talks about seeing the throne of the Black City being empty, there's something sincere when he dies and prays to Dumat - adding, 'if you ever existed'. This guy, remember, was a high ****** priest of Dumat. His faith has been so completely shaken even if you barely see it in his lacking dialogue and acting (why they did not hire a hammy actor for Coryphepuss I have no idea), and there's something human about that despite DARKSPAWN ANCIENT MAGISTER.
