I don't understand why you guys think the N7 character is random soldier #6453 or random MP character #8567. They would not put something like that in the big reveal trailer. Just look back at previous trailers in the series.

 

This N7 guy, whoever he may be, is important to the story.

-Superior officer that dies so that we can take command
-Secondary Antagonist that's hunting us for some reason.
-Some kind of rival

I don't think the character we saw in the video is a multiplayer character because, according to the leak, it looks very much like a Remnant vault raid...

 

"Find and activate Remnant Monoliths to unlock Remnant vaults. Explore abandoned Remnant ruins to find and locate a powerful artifact, but once you remove it you will trigger the vault defenses that will arm traps, activate defense robots and even change the architecture of the vault itself to stop you from escaping."

 

...which is part of the single player campaign.

 

There is a lot of guess work here, and working off the leak which could be inaccurate, but those monoliths coming out of the ground fit too well. I think he has likely has something to do with the main story.

So you think the 2010 VGA Reveal Trailer was about major Coats? Go watch it again. It's about Shepard. Coats is just the narrator. 

 

ME Andromeda trailer focuses on this N7 guy, he must have some big role to play.

Go and read the marketing survey leak - it talks about Strike Missions that can be done in either SP or MP, and the fact that in the story this is explained by the Pathfinder (main character) having soldiers under their command. We dispatch our strike team MP character to fight alongside other players, or the same mission can be done using the single-player squad if we find it while out exploring.

The main character doesn't wear N7 insignia, but the MP characters might. If I had to guess, we "re-form" the symbol of N7 in Andromeda as a tribute to Shepard, or something, and that unlocks the MP part of the game. The team have been talking for ages about the idea of N7 meaning teamwork and heroism, etc.

That character in the trailer absolutely does not need to be somebody important. I suspect they're wearing a helmet precisely because they're meant to be an anonymous MP strike team leader.

Considering how badass even SHephard's clone turned out to be, perhaps it would be a good idea for the SA to just clone Shephard and conquer the galaxy... one after another.

Shepard shows up for one shot. We don't actually know enough about the new game's plot to guess. The DA:I fire above trailer doesn't even show the Inquisitor.

I would attribute this guy to Major Coats ala the first ME3 trailer. Someone who plays no real role.

That would be pretty awesome if shepard was the villain. Definitely somthing different that other franchises haven't done. I would be intrigued to see that.

A Vault is a dungeon that players descend into, probably not something located on the surface of a planet. It also looks to have traps and puzzles based on geometry, which seems like something that takes place in an enclosed space, not out in the open.

If I had to guess, in the trailer the squad are attacking a khet outpost.

My guess: he got sent along with his crew to Andromeda for some reason, but then lost contact with Milky Way. So, PC is sent there to find him and learn what happened. 

 

 

@FireW4lker. That's what I'm thinking as well.  I suspect that he's some fancy war hero mini-Shepard type and we're being sent on a rescue mission for him.  Cue the dramatic music when he turns out to be the antagonist.

 

Is anybody else thinking "Apocalypse Now" or is it just me?

Who would still be alive? None of the Salarians, that's for sure. The only ones with a long life ahead of them were Liara and Grunt. Aria, Aethyta, Samara, Wrex are all close to the end of their lifespan. Turians and Drell don't live longer than humans and that's pretty much it for familiar faces.

 

Plus, not everyone lived till the end of ME3. Wrex could die as early as Virmire, the others can all die in ME2 or ME3. Except perhaps Liara, the writer's pet.

Liara is definitely alive, makes sense to have at least 1 character returning, who is better than the "young" asari who is in all 3 games? And probably the most important squad member after the 2 big fan favorites Tali and Garrus.

We have no idea idea when Andromeda is set so how can you say she's "definitely" still alive?

No, I don't think that. And no, this trailer doesn't assert that the N7 guy "must" have a big role, though he certainly may have. Just like you said that the Coats trailer was about Shepard, you could also say that this trailer isn't about the N7 guy and his squad but about Remnant vault raiding. Or something else entirely.

 

Only time will tell.
