Does Xbox's "backward compatibility" kill hopes for a trilogy remaster?

Granted, Bioware's never confirmed nor denied rumors of a remaster and, personally, I feel it's unlikely to happen, but do you feel Xbox's announcement* would dissuade BW from moving forward with a remaster?

If they farmed out the remaster duties to another company/studio and released it, I'd probably still get it.

*according to the Xbox website, "backwards compatibility" is simply an emulator that you don't have to pay for like you do with PS's similar service.

Probably so, yes. In fact, it's killed hope for many remasters of many titles imho. Not sure I mind, though.

At this point, even if they were working on one, this news will probably make them just cancel it and use remaining funds for ME:A or other Bioware projects. I guess the Gears of War, God of War, and Uncharted fans are looking their their developers got in on the remaster early and officially announced them before Microsoft dropped this news. Now it looks like playing the ME Trilogy through Xbox One would have to suffice.

But I really wanted a remaster cause at least we get updated textures and 60fps, which is not really what the Xbox One backwards compatibility does.

Again, another fail by Bioware/EA and easy money being thrown away. Looks like there will be NO new ME content released this year, no ME4 and no ME Remaster. Looks like I should just put Mass Effect on a mental shelf and forget about it for a long....long time and just switch my anticipation over to Fallout 4 since that is coming in months and not years like the eventual Spring 2017 release for ME:A.

It seems like today would've been the time to mention it.

That's pretty disappointing.

Before the end of the conference, I'd say no.

After the end of the conference and no mention of a remaster, I'd say ... probably. The DLC could be a royal mess of a situation, though.

I was hoping for it. I would have still got it even with this Xbox announcement. It doesn't look good now. We got a long wait ahead of us for the next ME game.

I very much doubt they'll release a remastered version of the original trilogy before Andromeda is launched. Perhaps once that game's development cycle (including DLC) has finished they will but they'll want all development and marketing focused on the new game.

Are you sure it'd still be easy money? A lot of the potential sales have just vaporized, I'd say

Depends on when and if they get the full trilogy backwards compatible, and if it includes the downloadable content.

Plus, it would still be a remastering, which ME1's texture pop desperately needs.

One thing I do wonder. Are these remaster games even selling well?

E3 isn't over, and BioWare only showcased 2 games via trailer.  And the BioWare team in Texas briefly discussed the new expansion for SWTOR after the E3 press conference.

Guys, there's still time for them to announce more information.  They probably have their own booth and could discuss atleast plot info of the game.

Is the backward compatibility only work on Mass Effect 1? not ME2 or ME3? just wondering...AND does that mean that the DLC for those games be made available on XBL? I am curious.

As far as ME games, they've only announced ME1 so far but said the list of games available will expand. I would think they'd eventually include the other two but that's just a guess on my part as they haven't said one way or the other yet.

Honestly, if EA did a remaster people would say its a fail because of one reason or another such as "they didn't change this feature" or "they didn't make Mass Effect 1 like 2 or 3" or "they didn't include all the DLC".

I think its only been announced, but Microsoft said there would be at least a hundred titles for when the service is officially launched this holiday season.  It might not be the right away, but I would think its a safe bet to say they would be there eventually.

People are mad about this too?! lol!

I'm thankful for backwards compatibility. Will be picking up ME trilogy again this weekend. Hopefully they add 2 and 3 to the list asap.

I am not mad about this but just wondering if its just for ME1 or the whole trilogy..if its the whole trilogy then I will pick up the 360 version of the trilogy instead and install that instead of buying one two and three games....waste of money

Right now they just got the 1st party games listed. Games they have rights to use. They will expand the list once other legal drama is taken care I assume. Honestly shouldn't be much trouble. They had a list earlier of other games. Games like Skyrim,Mass Effect 2 & 3 were listed on there. The more popluar games will get priority. Trilogy shouldn't have any trouble going through.

It's not news to developers. Microsoft would not keep this sort of thing a secret from them.

Honestly the main reason I was hoping for a trilogy remaster is so I could play it on xbox one, since it is now going to be playable on xbox one I am getting what I want.  Granted I will still be happy if they do a remaster but for me it is no longer necessary.

We have to think about this logically. Xbox One has a smaller install base than PS4. The backward compatibility is not a graphical or technical improvement. The DLC will likely not be added to the Xbox One market. Backward compatibility doesn't attract new players.
There's no reason to assume we won't get a remastered trilogy. Especially not now that we know the next new game is at least 18 months away. They could make the announcement next year and release the remastered trilogy 6 or even 3 months before Andromeda to build more hype.

I'd rather Bioware not spend any time making a remaster. Make new titles.

Remasters are always done by other companies. The original teams aren't spending their time remastering their own games that they spent years developing.

Eh, I still don't think its necessary. Remasters are getting old(lol). Backwards compatibility works for me. A free remaster(dreaming, never gonna happen) would be kinda okay.

With Mass Effect, I guess I'm so nostalgic I don't want to see it altered. Mass 1 is when everything felt good for me. Before helmets that couldn't be removed, before Priority Earth, etc etc. I'd rather head back into the game as it was than a new model of it that takes away part of what made the original so charming.

New games or bust.

Honestly, just buy them all on PC, they're like 20 pound for all three.

This strikes me as wishful thinking masquerading as logic.
