This strikes me as wishful thinking masquerading as logic.
Feel free to point out any flaws in my logic.

If they're going to do it, instead of re-master it, re-imagine it instead.
Compress and rewrite the original story into one big game. Ideally with a coherent and consistent script. Keep the major set pieces and moments from the other 3 as much as possible and do it in the new FB engine. Also maybe figure out the ending this time in advance instead of the mess they came up with.
Simply call the re imagined game Mass Effect.
Right now ME1 on X361 doesn't have the DLC, I'm hoping that once the full update is out then the previously purchased DLC can be added in.

I don't think the backwards compatibility affects the options of having a remake so much. I mean, we have played the original trilogy, most of us (if not all) still have the prev gen consoles with the game right there to be played anytime, and many (if not most) of us would still buy the remastered version.
It would make sense for them to wait, though, because the graphics of ME3 still look more or less ok today.
One thing I do wonder. Are these remaster games even selling well?
Tomb Raider Definitive, was huge, which I suspect you know about...
No E3 announcement makes me think that its not coming. And its not like they skipped ME trilogy stuff because they had a ton of ME4 stuff to show off. They had a tiny snip of ME4 content and that was all. If they were planning an ME trilogy remaster, we should've heard about it by now.
As much as I will insta-buy a ME1HD remaster for my PS4, I think all gaming companies have overdone with these remastered versions.
XBONE's backwards compatibility id the same emulation service that PPS4 will soon be providing. You have to be online to play and you're basically watching a stream of the game played on a massive server somewhere which has last gen technology. The only difference is that with XBONE is that you can play the games if you have already purchased them or purchase them now and with PS4, you pay a subscription to play any game on the service.
What this all means is that both consoles will have access to last gen titles making remasters less of a priority for players.. and developers. I hope I'm wrong though and it still happens.

That would only make sense if they couldn't release it some time next year, dude. They can release it whenever they want. Andromeda is still 18 months away so a remastered trilogy could be 15 months away and not deserving of a stage presence at E3 2015 when Andromeda only got like 90 seconds.
Probably not. I'm sure that there are people who have purchased remastered games that still have the ability to play the original version.
.. seems to be done by an implicit assumption that isn't present in the post. Namely, that the case for a remaster -- the expensive kind of remaster, rather than a basic port --- is so overwhelmingly positive without XBone backward compatibility that XBone backward compatibility will not hurt the project enough to kill it. If you don't share that assumption, there's no argument. We have to think about this logically. Xbox One has a smaller install base than PS4. The backward compatibility is not a graphical or technical improvement. The DLC will likely not be added to the Xbox One market.
Backward compatibility doesn't attract new players. There's no reason to assume we won't get a remastered trilogy. Especially not now that we know the next new game is at least 18 months away. They could make the announcement next year and release the remastered trilogy 6 or even 3 months before Andromeda to build more hype.
Honestly, just buy them all on PC, they're like 20 pound for all three.
+100 pound for all the DLCs. The point of remasters is not just accessibility on new consoles and prettier graphics, it is also a lower price bundle for the entire games.
If you already own the games and the DLC there is little point in buying them again in some sort of bundle for the new consoles. The most you're going to get is a resolution upgrade to 1080p and frame rate boost from 30fps to 60fps. Odds are EA would charge console gamers $60 for the "definitive edition" or whatever they decide to call it.
@Steppenwolf: I didn't mean that the logic of the argument was bad, I meant that it was mostly missing. All the work here:

Could you walk me through the case for that?
I already spelled it out pretty plainly. The Xbox One install base is much smaller than the PS4 install base, we only know that ME1 will be compatible with Xbox One and the DLC is not likely to be made available on Xbox One.
Your logic is glaringly flawed. You've already assumed that the idea of a remastered trilogy is dead simply because ME1 is going to play on Xbox One. Remasters sell and one console making 100 or so proprietary last-gen games work on current-gen consoles doesn't change that.
Make a remastered version of ME for PC only. Problem solved. Trying to play ME1 with shiity graphics is really difficult.
If you want to play the old games, why not just play the old games?
If I want to play Mass Effect, I can play Mass Effect.
If you're a console player keeping the old consoles and having new ones is a pain in the butt. I have 4 HDMI ports on my TV but way more HD devices. I've got a DVR, Apple TV, PS4, Xbone, Wii U, PS3, 360 and an HDMI switch to make up the difference. Most people probably have to ditch the last-gen consoles to make room for the new one/s.
This only makes me wonder, yet again, why anyone would choose consoles. If you're a console player keeping the old consoles and having new ones is a pain in the butt. Not everyone likes PC gaming. I play PC games but I prefer console gaming. I don't like using mouse and keyboard very much and I prefer sitting on the couch in front of my TV.
Holiday 2016 release for MEA put things in a different perspective. Any potential Remaster should be released closer to that date than in 2015 so there's still time & hope
