with the lead writer of Halo 4 at the helm, don't count on this entry being any better

I wish I could disagree with this.

I'm not bummed about exploring a new galaxy. I look forward to it. Gah! Looking forward to the newness because what's gone on before will always be there for me to take out and play.

For me, it's a good thing. It'll allow me to move beyond the trilogy much easier if it's a new setting. I won't have to grieve all over again for Shepard, the crew, the Normandy of old.

I don't understand this line of thinking. There is literally an entire galaxy left to explore in the Milky Way. Less than 1% of it has been mapped and explored during the time of the original trilogy.

It was all mapped out with green explosion. And just think of all the lore problems that would come up. Where do all these other precursor societies come from. Why didn't synthesis affect them if you picked it? Why didn't the reapers seek them out? Where they contemporaries of the Leviathans?

It just goes on.

So? Unless they canon-ize Synthesis, this is a non-issue.

As compared to the lore issues that are evident right now. Right.

In the Milky Way, or Andromeda? If you mean in the Milky Way, they would almost certainly be dead and extinct if they are at all younger than the Reapers. If you mean in Andromeda, it wouldn't matter, because the energy from the Crucible detonation would have dissipated and been absorbed by other matter in the Milky Way and in dark space.

I will speak for myself only , but to me...the Grrrr feeling come from the fact that 1) they insisted on keeping that ME3 crappy ending . Yet they won't build on it . So shove crap in my mouth then ignore the consequences of writting it ?

I want them to write on what they made , not weasel out of it by advancing time some hundred years and make it like it never happen .

But thats just me....

1. ME:A would have had four problems to deal with regardless of what canon ending it choose. Green explosion. AI genocide (so no plots centered around any technology of that kind). Actual galactic reaper genocide (in refuse). Or what the **** do we do about Shepardlyst and the army of reapers (in Control). None of that is any good as a starter.

2. It'd be worse if they didn't.

3. If that's true, then there's absolutely nothing worth exploring in the Milky Way other than a bunch of burned out husks as planets and a plot reduced to more politicking between existing races, which leads us right back to the problem in #1.

cheesy love story that makes no sense? check

tropetastic characters that make me want to bash my head out? check

bad execution of lore elements (that are also bad but that's another issue)? check

plot holes galore? check

hell Halo 4 couldn't even keep people invested in MP (hardly the lead writer's fault though)

Is there any other series where the ending was so bad, and the writers so inept that rather than try and work with the setting, they throw up their hands say "screw it" and move to a new galaxy?

If they're gonna just abandon the entire Milky Way, then there was no reason not to change the endings entirely. And of they want to claim artistic integrity they shouldn't have abandoned ship.

The Fable series? Well, they don't go to a new galaxy, but each games gets worse and worse in quality of story and the combat gets more and more simple (up to Fable 3. After that game I just gave up on the franchise entire.)

I thought Halo 4's campaign was awesome. They did a fantastic job on the Chief-Cortana dynamic.

It even sounded like Mass Effect: Borderlands. Will we run into a version of Handsome Jack? How about Roland? Or better yet, Tiny Tina? At least, let's have Tiny Tina, please?

I don't care that they're ignoring the original trilogy and will take it on its own as its own game.

I will judge it for what it is based on the quality of the writing, the characters, the story and how the game plays out.

If it's written well enough that I can overlook the trilogy and treat it as its own game that is set in the same universe with roughly the same rules in terms of science and biotics, then I will be happy to give it a chance as its own separate entity.

Yeah, who doesn't want a crappy pseudo love story, forced drama, they couldn't even make the mental degradation of Cortana interesting, not even gonna touch the abominations that are Del Rio (who is back because reasons) and Sarah Palmer (*vomits*)

Then there's the idiotic forerunner/human war and ancient astronaut humans, and the main villain being worse than Corypheus

What did you think the music was hinting at?

Who the enemy is, who the protagonist is, who the bad mobs are.

An old cowboy - Just a normal guy/gal

Ghost Rider in the Sky- Someone that is unseen. Moves quickly, and strikes fear in others

Dark and Windy - metaphor for dark times where loyalties shift in the wind

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel - what the bad mobs look like... or the protagonist possey armor

Their horns were bland and shiny and their hot breath he could feel - describing the bad guys (maybe)

A bolt of fear went through him - the protagonist isn't a Shepard. He/She feels fear

...he heard their mournful cry - Some really cool sfx for enemies

... he heard one call his name - Protagonist is called out/singled out for a higher purpose

If you want to save your soul from Hell a-riding on our range, then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride - A warning to the protagonist or from the protagonist to the enemy

But, who knows. Bioware is full of tricks

then: "I HATE THE ENDING"

now: "LETS STAY IN THE MILKY WAY AND DEAL WITH THE ENDING THAT I UTTERLY HATE!"

They remind me of the way Councilor Sparatus was in ME 1.

Because, as you put it, all of the precursor races younger than the reapers would've gotten genocide'd. So I suppose you could Stark Trek it, find some planet that's at a level of technological development similar to our own... but that wouldn't be a fun game, IMO.

I tend to be angry about franchises I like that are ruined by stupid lore additions and crappy writing
