The fact is that There are a lot of people Who wanted Andromeda/leave the MW, and people Who wanted to remain in MW and don't go to Andromeda. There was no actual right choice that would satisfy everyone.

I personally saw pro and cons in Both approaches, as well as the possibility of Bioware screwing things up. I hope they won't drop the ball.

This was a thing... people were calling to leave the galaxy before? I saw one suggestion someone digged up recently in that "Recommend ideas to Casey Hudson" thread, but I didn't know this was a hard choice tearing fans apart.

I'm not sure what the writers could do without an import system, though I'm not sure how well an import system would work for this. Even if it's set in the Milky Way, they'd probably just set it so far into the future that a lot of stuff would get glossed over, and for sake of not having the green circuitry and glowing eyes muddle up the character creator, simply leave synthesis as that hokey what-if choice that just never really happened. The reapers are gone and no one talks about them. The relays are just rebuilt because, well they have to be for this whole thing to work, unless tech advances so that they become obsolete. The geth will never be spoken of or seen from again, and if there are quarians and krogan walking around, no one will ever speak of what happened during the war under pain of torture.

I think it might have started with the Ark theory, and then expanded with the leak.
If you're Referring To before that, i don't know, but there surely were those Who heavily dislike ld the idea of a sequel in the MW with a Canon ending or a vague one.

lol.... Well, if you're going to handwave, that's the way to do it. Make it completely absurd.

I'm not mad or anything, but I am confused.  I don't see how they can realistically build on ME without touching the old trilogy.  ME is about the mass effect.  The technology, the relays, etc.  If it's connected to humanity, if it's connected to technology that came from reapers, if it's a colonization, a future where another galaxy is well colonized it doesn't matter.  The past exists, and it can't be hand waved with any integrity.  To just pretend the history is there but it's not doesn't fill me with confidence for good writing and continuity.  It's not that I care about any ending, but if t's attached to the same universe...there's no good way to deal with it, and ignoring it isn't a good option.  It's a cheap out that's like asking a politician for an answer and getting none

There is no way out of the old trilogy that won't feel cheap, lacking, and insulting.  I think we deserve better than "We're just going to not talk about it..at all..ever.  Reaper technology exists but it's not reaper technology.  Move along."

The "bonding" possabilities in the original trilogy was phenominal.  That is what make peoples so upset by ignoring the previous trilogy.  For those players the continuation of the story is broke and the new ME:A is just as a new IP.

It is not that they all want "Shepard" back but at least recognized him/her adventures as history.

But today everything is about "disconnect" sadly enough.  Feeling desperate and alone to muddle in the world is in.

One of the iconic images of mass effect is the relay.
It appears on loading screens, cut scenes and they play a pivotal role of the universe.
Abandoning them and you lose another aspect of mass effect. It becomes another Sci Fi shooter, whoop De woo.

However, having them in andromeda opens up a whole massive can of worms.

What a mess.

Had ME3 delivered on the promise to give each person their own ending based upon the choices that they had made in the series then you have had a fourth entry that couldn't have been set in the Milky Way without canonizing parts of the story or ignoring how each our stories went, surely?

I liked the ME trilogy, still do. And I am very happy to see Andromeda on its way.

I honestly do not believe that the relays themselves are important. My preference would have been for galactic society to reach a point where the relays are rendered obsolete and ultimately abandoned, because they now have all the time in the world to actually surpass whatever technologies they left behind.

So... it's not Mass Effect tech anymore? I mean, the relays are the pinnacle of that.. how do we surpass the Reapers so quickly, when they had tens of millions of years to perfect it.

How many handwaves do we have to deal with?

We're already gonna threaten anyone with torture who asks about Quarians and Krogan, right? :D

This still scares the f* out of me.  I played the games but was not super deep into the lore like some.  I've read from enough comments to know why people are mad.  Retcons, plotholes...just general nonsensical BS.  If this is is what is in store for ME?  On top of the mess they have to try to deal with (or try to not deal with)?

Shotgun on the first lifeboat.

This is starting to remind me of that Ed Wood movie. They're just winging it..

Depends when he noi joined the team. Also, I doubt the higher ranking members of ME team didn't have a role in it.

The fact that they are ignoring the original trilogy is great in my eyes.......they can distance themselves from THAT mess of an ending.

To be fair to Schlerf, Halo 4's writing was vastly superior to most things penned in ME3, save Tuchanka.

well Weekes is in DA, Dumbrow just came back, Walters is in an advising capacity, and Hudson is gone.

That leaves only junior members of the writing staff, like the guy who wrote Miranda and Grunt in ME3

Well the relays aren't really the pinnacle of that. You have to remember that technology isn't linear, and the Reapers never advanced. They created the relays, then just stalemated the galaxy for eons to set up their trap.

If the galaxy actually had a chance to advance then it's more than likely better technology would be created than the relays. Heck, they've reached Andromeda, that already shows they've advanced past the relays.

To me the relays were basically chekov's guns, they served a big purpose for the reaper invasion story but not much more. Including them but not interweaving them into a plot seems a bit pointless, imo. It's like saying Star Wars isn't Star Wars without a death star.

Yeah, but the problem is their taking "distance themselves" waaaay too literally.
