You are using military equipment. You are in a military.

Shepard helped establish humanity's place in an unfamiliar galaxy. That was even used in some of the promotional material for ME1. In another thread you argued exactly that when arguing ME1 was the most human-centric of the Shepard Trilogy games.

Cerberus used military equipment, they weren't military.

And no, Shepard help establish humanity in a very familiar, well-tread galaxy. Humanity may have been new and unfamiliar, but that's it.

Using military equipment doesn't put you in the military. An excellent example would be the US police today. They use military grade equipment, but they aren't military.

And the difference between ME1, apart from the fact that Shepard doesn't actually help establish humanity in that way, is that the galaxy isn't actually that unfamiliar. It's incredibly well documented. Humanity is slowly finding its place in a well-developed intergalatic society, but it's not without the Citadel's user manual. ME4 - so far - seems to be about an entirely undiscovered place we might well be stranded in. That's totally different. Shepard's bosses are literally the nominal alien rulers of the galaxy.

They were a military. They used to be a human black ops organization before they went rogue. A rogue military is still a military. In fact, they still see themselves as serving humanity.

It was unfamiliar and new to humanity. Again, I'm using terms Bioware did to promote ME1.

A.) What the new ship looks like. Is it going to feel like a base, or just a place to save the game?

B.) Some of the squadmates. I definitely want a salarian squadmate, they were so underutilized in the original trilogy (Let me be clear. I want to see salarians in a way that is unrelated to the krogan)

C.) Some of the locales. What kind of planets are there?

I hope that ME:A isn't another one of those open world hiking simulators full of boring copy-pasted filler content.

What I wrote in my post are all things that have been confirmed by Bioware, so it is sufficient data. Our character is:

Human

Has combat training

In a military

commands a ship

Helping establish humanity's presence in an unfamiliar galaxy

And they will get involved in something bigger than themselves, because that's how RPGs work.

So basically every other RPG?

Dude - Mako is confirmed. It's an open world driving simulator full of boring copy-pasted filler content. Get it right. ;)

No.

1)There are RPGs that let you play something other than human.

2)There are RPGs that have you not have any combat training.

3)There are RPGs that have you not be in a military.

4)There are RPGs where the protagonist doesn't command a ship.

5) There are RPGs where the protagonist isn't elping establish humanity's presence in an unfamiliar place.

I'd like to know how customizable the protag is. I would hope to have the ability to shape their personality and looks, but with the direction ME3 went, not sure they are going to give the protag back to the players.

I also would like to know at least a little bit about the story--just enough to give people a general idea about what's going on without spoiling anything. It would also be nice to get hints about some of the companions.

Many hiking simulators have horses yet that doesn't make them riding simulators.  B)

Until they come out with more information to the contrary, it's Shepard 2.0 for me. But that's my opinion. Now that may have a negative connotation to some but for others, it might mean they get it right this time compared to ME3's horrid ending(s). It's just hard to compare this new human character with anyone but Shepard since that's all we've known. That makes the decision not to add additional races as PC's more mind boggling to me.
