We have different tastes. As far as combat goes, I felt it was mediocre, but I could see why people who played a biotic Shepherd liked it. What made me not enjoy it was the Mako side missions. Driving that damn car was stole all fun from the game. The menu's were also bad, but I could have dealt with that if it weren't for the Mako. I like driving games, I love driving in Halo and Borderlands, but the Mako is the third worst game killing event in gaming for me. I stopped gaming after Halo 3's Cortana level; my Mako experience, and ME3's ending, all were massive failures.I bought the trilogy as a package. Loved ME1, and played through it 5 times before I started ME2, which I nearly quit after a couple of hours. If I hadn't been really invested in Shepard and wanted to continue the story, I would have bailed and never looked back.
Maybe that's the reason you hated it - you were expecting it to handle like something built for a driving game. I got along very well with it, and found it a very easy transition, since driving the Mako was very much like driving Shepard.
SP is all drama. Just put something out and focus on the MP Bioware.

I'm one of those scurvy deviants that has played ME3 so many times that I'm pretty sure that my main Shepard's save file has every single gun upgraded to the max and has more credits than she could possibly spend. I love all three, but I find ME1's dialogue is easily the most wooden of the lot. ME2's is probably the best in this regard.

Actually the stat-based combat could make a return in SP, in a "simulation mode", differing from the action mode we have nowadays.
That said, ME3 has the best combat mechanics by far.

Okay I'm really hoping that was just a poor attempt at making a joke, and I don't actually have to explain the reference. I didn't think that SP baddies lived under rocks, but I guess their moms' basements are analogous.

It must pain you being so outnumbered, outgunned, and outplayed, but at least the SP baddies got a therapy thread to huddle in after this. Things would be much easier if you would just accept the facts and join the unstoppable force that is MP. SP is already being improved by its presence (like ME3 was) and theres more to come. Embrace change and a better gaming world (or get ran over by it).

I would expect that they're just going to go with Mass Effect 3 combat mechanics and continue to improve them.

Stat-based mechanics tend to work better for pure roleplaying games IMO, I'm not so sure they'd work out too great in a shooter action-RPG hybrid.
I mean, Morrowind had stat-based combat, and I'm sure we all remember how intensely annoying that was:

I too liked ME1's combat but I didn't dislike ME2's, it was just such a weird transition. That said ME1 (I feel) has kind of a learning curve that can be off-putting.

Why are internet trolls fundamentally incapable of recognizing when they're being trolled back?

Sometimes they are. Sometimes they aren't.
But what is true - and I'm not saying this for any other reason than because it is true - those of us forged in the fires of the MP forums, particularly from its early hyperactive years, have learned to have a thick skin for any discussion and a wary eye for bulls**t. It's not an easy group to collectively troll, because they have had their e-Peen called into question for 50% of everything they've said for years.

Thank you.
As a socially maladroit person, I'll admit that I've never understood the value of "trolling."
In any case, I hope MP players and SP players get awesome experiences.
