Stat-based mechanics tend to work better for pure roleplaying games IMO, I'm not so sure they'd work out too great in a shooter action-RPG hybrid.
FO3 with VATS.
That's how they'd work.

This is the best system to go with, since it lets you keep the action mode and the RPG stat based mode completely separate from each other. In theory, anyway. Fallout 3 still didn't entirely do that despite having VATS.
Though I still wouldn't expect them to do anything but push the action based combat.
To be fair, COD Ghosts' story >> ME after the ending. SP's can no longer look to the the crappy story for moral superiority. EA specifically singled out ME's terrible ending as an excuse for them being voted the worst company in America. If I want a game with NO story and a subpar multiplayer, I'd play Call of Duty.

It's statements like this that most make me want to play ME3, because I don't generally think the ending of a game is that important, so I'd love to see how big a deal Me3's ending actually is.

...Its not that big of a deal really. ...You haven't played Mass Effect 3? wuzwrongwitchoo?

It's frustrating, because I wouldn't say it's worse in execution from any other Bioware ending; it's just incoherent. It simply does not makes sense, either by its own internal logic or with respect to the general structure of the story and the themes it explores prior to that point.

The pacing is horrible, the writing is all over the place. The characters sound like parodies of themselves. Of the main plot, only Tuchanka (and Rannoch if you discount Legion's Pinnochio Syndrome) are worthwhile. The rest varies from okay to mediocre. The original endings were apalling. Now they are even worse- yes I said it. At least the original endings were pure symbolism. Showed bits and pieces, told nothing (lots of spectulation for everyone! (ugh.)
That said you really should play it. The MP is surprisingly fun! After some time you really get used to play without the tactical HUD.

I have to say that I disagree, it makes sense to me. That said it's focus on the synthetic-organic conflict is kind of strange since that theme always seemed kind of peripheral (not to mention dealt with by the Quarian-Geth conflict).
It's obvious that there was a different ending in mind which is the worst thing in my opinion, otherwise I kind of liked it.

I can't help but feel that nostalgia works against ME3 sometimes, because as much as I love all three games, ME1 and ME2 both make me shake my head at some of the goofy crap that goes on throughout its main quests a lot more, especially ME2, which I feel has the absolute worst narrative of the three games. The feeling about that game is similar to how I felt about the 2009 Star Trek film. It was fun at first, despite noticing some problems, but then I thought about it some more, and watched it again, and suddenly the dreck littered throughout revealed itself, and then it ballooned into a total mess that made me wonder how I didn't catch it the first go.

Yeah, that's not going to happen.
If I play ME3, I will play the SP only.

I really didn't like ME2, and the dev statements suggested that the issues I had with ME2 were not going to be corrected in ME3. So I skipped it (which was good - it gave me more time to play Crusader Kings II)
All sweeping generalizations are bad.
Wait a minute...
double post.

Use MP like a training session. You don't need other people to play MP. Just create a game and start it without inviting or waiting for other people to appear. Or, if you want a real solo experience, set the game to Private, and no one will enter to help you. The mechanics are very clever. You really shoud give it a try.

Yeah... make someone untrained do a solo as the first thing in MP. What could go wrong? ![]()

Shhh...I'm trying to convert someone to the ME3MP church of awesomeness, and you are stealing my thunder!
WOLOLO~~~AIOHHHHHH~~WOLOLO
And bronze solo is easy...easier....doable....

Believe me, ME2 is really a writing mess as well. But, the pacing is good, very different from ME3 that loses its oomph after Rannoch.

That's what I did. It weens you off of the power wheel pause and kinda programs you to use the squad members without it, and learn to manage hordes that come from multiple directions.
Problem is the person in question pauses for every single shot. ^^
I didn't get that reference either. Am I supposed to feel bad about not getting it?
yes you should.
I guess that expecting you baddies to even know about an illustrious MP based game series that has sold literally 6x as well as this one is too much to ask of your SP Australopithithecine microbrains.

It seems like you shouldn't have used 3 SP characters, including the iconic character used to market SP, if you wanted to market MP.

Really? Because biower did.
I was attempting to make it easier for SP peasants by including something you'd recognize, but obviously it didn't work.
