A bit of reading that I stumbled upon.
This is interesting,
'Next, 4Gamer asks how did the remake get the green light.
“To put it simply, one of main reasons is the timing for the staff members that are developing the game, and how it worked out in our favor,” Nomura elaborates. “Also, as we’ve seen, Square Enix now has more PlayStation 4 titles, so we felt that we could increase the console’s popularity, and make an announcement before those games release. And there’s one more thing—we’re hitting that age.”
“Of all the staff that worked on the original Final Fantasy VII, and those who are working on the remake, I’m the youngest one,” Nomura explains. “I’m 45 years old now. If we continued on without doing a remake, [Yoshinori] Kitase and [Kazushige] Nojima are well older than me… so, yeah,” Nomura explains with a laugh. “With this timing and opportunity in mind, we decided to just got for it.”
It does make a lot of sense. However, I think that it's also a case of the 'fandom/market' getting older, kids who were 10 when the game out, would be 28 now (for example).
I'm both excited and worried about this at the same time. Excited it's finally happening, worried it'll be anything like XIII. Also somewhat worried I'll have to end up buying a PS4 for it if it doesn't release on the One.
If it plays like the original (or 10) with 13's camera during battle then all is well. And as long as they keep all the spinoffs away from it... If I hear names like Genesis, Angeal, Kadaj etc. mentioned in the buildup then I'll probably be staying away... Will only play this if it's purely content from the original game. This one's childhood will not be ruined!

“I often hear from fans that simply giving it better graphics alone would be fine, but if that’s all you want, then the previously mentioned Final Fantasy VII for PS4 would suffice, and with that, we’d have a ‘slightly better-looking Final Fantasy VII’ and a ‘much better-looking Final Fantasy VII,”says Nomura.
He continues, “I think if it came down to that, then there’d be no reason in doing a remake, and while it may be difficult, we’re already prepared to doing it right if we’re going to do it at all. I’m sure some of you may feel uneasy about this, but one thing I can say, is that it won’t be boring, and we’d like you to wait and look forward to what it will turn out to be.”
I hope in the remake Tifa can become the strong Latina she was always meant to be.

This may be a stupid question but is there a possibility that they will try throwing in some things from Crisis Core, Before Crisis, and Dirge of Cerberus?

Araki was 37 when it came out.
He's still 37 now.
Meh, not exactly looking forward to Gacktaroth.

Yeah, a lot of people feel like you. I can't see them not mentioning Zack, and parts of his backstory. I wouldn't mind seeing Sephiroth a bit haunted by seeing Zack when he sees cloud.
I was cool with "much better-looking Final Fantasy VII" tbh. We'll see what kind of changes they make.
People just wanted up to date graphics, not story changes...or location changes.

I can defiantly see things from Crisis-Core being thrown in.
My friend wants them to have us play as Zack during his last mission in Crisis Core as a prologue mission for the remake.
I told him they should just do a Crisis Core remaster.
They ported over that Type-0 game, so they could port over Crisis-Core, and they probably will tbh. I vastly preferred Zack over Cloud tbh.

I don't imagine that they'll change the plot, maybe a line or two here and there. They may throw in some references from Crisis Core. There are some episodes, like Cloud's infamous adventures in crossdressing, that I think they might change simply because of the goofiness not working as well today as it did in 90s graphics.
They might remove some elements of choice.
Guys! Someone just leaked the plot. I have some interesting details on who dies. You won't believe this!

Well, I would be pretty disappointed if they removed the gold saucer. That segment was pretty goofy too, but still was one of my favourites.
Well the backlash will be interesting for sure. On one side we will have people who only want improved graphics, and on the other people wanting new content (not accounting for the quality of said content).

Possibly. Nomura did state that fans should "look forward to" crossdressing Cloud in the remake at least. Would be hilarious if they made it even more crazier ![]()
Cloud's as pretty as any girl.
So he should.
With lots of makeup
So he looks ugly af
ETA:
Or just imagine.
A cross dressing Barret.
Glorious

Eh, we'll see..
Looking forward to this game. I never played FFVII because by the time it got to PC, well, it kinda shows its age. ![]()
