In more of a LORE stand point. I know Male Elf's pretty much the best race for a magic build. However I'm trying to think of a good LORE for why an Elf will become a AW, It just seems like Arcane Warrior's tend to be Human.

This is just my own idea however to me Elf's have always been very skinny little guys and seeing them in Heavy Armor just seems weird in my eyes.

Elves invented the arcane warrior. The Dalish when they were back in the Dales had an organized unit of them. Humans are Johnny come latelys to the whole Arcane Warrior thing. No to mention, the Chantry via the Templars frown upon mages learning swordplay.

Any elf with an interest in his or her heritage would be intrigued by the idea of learning about Arcane Warriors.

Elves because: Elves.

There is a beautiful Arcane Warrior armor mod set on the Nexus, silver/blue in coloration called the "Ivory Tower" that comes with two blades and a shield as well as helm, gloves, chest and boots.  It's for any arcane warrior, male, female, elf or human, though it's marking has a very 'elven' look to it.  I always imagined, since AW's use Magic stat instead of Strength for equipping such armors, that the armoring was 'light and magical' in nature, making it easy and comfortable to wear, requiring more a force of mental prowess vs brute strength.  Elves being more magically inclined (by lore) they would be more comfortable in it.  But that's just me.

My elven mage went for Arcane Warrior because:

1. Chance to connect with some ancient elven heritage. I think that's a big lure for a lot of elves.

2. Being a mage in Thedas really sucks. Rolling an Arcane Warrior allows you to use your magical talents in a way that makes you look like a tough ol' warrior, not a mage. I think for any mage tired of being labelled, arcane warrior is appealing because it allows you to escape those labels whilst secretly using their talents (ancient elven magic yeahhhh). This applies two-fold for elves, who are usually presented as rogues/mages/general weaklings.

Of course, I think humans would be interested too because Arcane Warrior was later adapted and developed by humans and probably is best associated with Circle magic, not elven magic, now.

So really, I think you can RP both. Prefer elves to take it personally, my humans usually end up going for blood mage/spirit healer.

1) I quite agree.  Look at how some blacks like to wear the clothes or use naming conventions of Africa.  Even look at how some whites care about what happens in England.  I think the elves would be all over anything related to their past.

Being an elf who had not only learned some lost elven skill, but had actually TALKED to an ancient elf??  Who had mindlinked with an ancient elf??  I fully believe such an elf would easily be revered and worshipped like no elf alive, being called a prophet, or messiah.  They would certainly be a "paragon", in dwarven terms.

2) That's funny.  In my game, I restrict elven mages to shifter - AW in that order, and humans to healer - BM in that order.  In awakening, elves get keeper and humans get battle mage.

Wear medium armour then. Varathorn's Armor is elven-made, has a nice slim "glitter elf" look to it, and adds a healthy Mana boost.

Of course, people will then ask how that 90 pounds elf managed to neatly cleave in two a grown man twice his size, which kinda defeats the whole "hide your reality warping talent" aspect.

If I saw a 90 lb elf cleave a massive warrior in two with a single blow I'd avoid eye contact with him by glancing around distractedly at the floor whilst thinking to myself "best not mention this to anyone, he appears to be the owner of a Vorpal épée bâtarde" (as the Orlesians might say).

The elves were the ones who actually founded the arcane warriors so I guess they'd make more sense to learn the arts. There's nothing in the lore to prevent a human from learning though. Then again, elves suck so...
