So no default face models?

Are we just going to get a generic looking face instead of a default face model modeled after an actual person? Are all promotional material just going to show the main character with his helmet on all the time, and will the cover of the game have an adrogynous looking person like DAI?

I prefer they do what they did with Mass Effect, have an actual faced character modeled after a real person and why not provide a double sided cover for each gender. DAI's hero just felt bland because I'm not good at creating faces and you never see the same face twice when you look at videos or images online.

I think they need a clear face to be associated with the game, the same way default Shepard was on all promotional material. I personally hate creating a face and would prefer just to play a good-looking default face.

No need for a "face of the series". A few quality presets, sure.

Anyway, the character creator should be more expressive than in previous games so that you can actually create some good-looking faces.

Funny thing, in one of the articles released shortly after E3 Walters and someone else (sorry) mentioned they really liked the face scanning thing for NBA Live, so you may be able to apply your ow. face to the character. Which would be cool, IMO.

If MEA has Face Codes ala Mass Effect 2&3 I will be a happy camper. So yeah I support either B-Ware giving Default Appearances or Top Notch Presets.

Everytime I complain about the lack of a default modeled face, people always misunderstand and think it's because the face creator is not good and I can't create a good looking face. This isn't the case. I simply don't want to have to create a face. I am not the kind of person that needs the main character to be "my" character, and I don't need to play as "myself".

I simply want to jump into the game with a character that looks like something, not a generic boring bland faced person. And also having promotional material avoid showing a face at all disconnects the game from the main character, making the main character seem superfluous, replacable, not someone unique or necessary to the story.

I need the story to be built around the main character, And for that, I need to associate the face of the character I'm going to play with the game, with the story. I think that's why I disliked DAO and DAI so much. DA2 and ME were far superior in making you feel invested in the character and his story within the game.

I ususally make custom characters when possible, but I would not object to Bioware making a default female protagonist based on a real model this time around (like they did with Sheploo). I just finished watching the last season of "Orange is the new black" and could'nt help but think that Ruby Rose would look great in high-tech space armor (even though the writers of the show did'nt do her character any favours). In fact, Bioware should just go ahead and do it. They would'nt even have to struggle with the long hairstyles:

You can choose from presets? DAI had 5 (?) faces to choose and they weren't canon so it's fine. Don't make anything canon in RPG, it's stupid. :/

I dont think its about making a face canon. Sheploo is by no means canon for the ME-trilogy in my book (the femshep in my avatar is). It is about making the presets look like great characters (the DAI ones were awful). I dont think anyone wants to remove the ability to create your own protagonist entirely.

Why do you believe the CC will be improved and not simply reuse an exiting "working" CC? It saves them money to reuse.

Nothing wrong with the promo having an actual face, the reason why alot of people gravitate torwards default Shepard and DA2s Hawke because they're instantly recognizable. I really liked that they did the same with FemShep her default face looked gorgeous, I'd support it for Andromeda even though I'd always customize my guy/girl

If that would mean only the dude would have a face model, then no. If both genders have a facemodel, then yes.

I don't want another case of what happened in trilogy.

Agreed i tend to as well especially given I tend to do a lot of playthroughs with the games so have made loads of Sheps both male and female.

How much does that sort of thing cost? What does a face model typically get paid?

CC might be good enough now that a face model isn't needed. Characters in DA:I for example that were created in the CC, look at least as detailed as Sheploo or ME3's default FemShep.

I hope they have one. If it's based off DAI's CC, I'll spend days on it.

I'd rather not. I don't have time for that ****.

I vastly prefer Bioware's more established characters (Hawke, Shepard) to the completely player-determined ones (Inquisitor, Warden). Having a set face, and personality/history for the character allows for a much better, tighter narrative.

I don't see the appeal of face scanning personally, even if it doesn't result in the hilarious monstrosity posted in the above image.

Using the Shepard trilogy as an example, none of us are Commander Shepard. So if the whole face scanning thing was around then, why would you want Shepard to look like you? Also, isn't that a little narcissistic?

The only benefit is that it could make the "post your character" threads highly amusing. The inevitable "Your dude looks like a gigantic dork," or "Damn, who hit her with the ugly stick" replies would generate god tier rage if it turned out the poster had used the face scanning thing. On second though...mark me down for being in support of face scanning. I'm out to buy some popcorn....

There's always the alternative of, "I'd bang your ____'s brains out," that seems to happen in the "post your ____ thread" a lot for some reason that will turn into a very awkward conversation. I see no reason not to do face scanning, honestly. There's no way it could actually go wrong.

Personally I'm not interested in there being an "official" face for the protagonist, though Sheploo did serve his role admirably as my FailShep.

Good point.

Either way the character threads would be sure to provide some quality entertainment, before the inevitable lock.

It looks like that tech still has a long way to go though. A quick search on google is turning up some hilarious results:

The're certainly value in creating a defeault or iconic look for a rpg protagonist, there are the obvious benefits for marketing campagains, but there also are narrative advantages in that emphasizes that the game ison 'shaping' rather than 'creating' the protagonist, like Shepard in Mass Effect.

Hope they do have a nice looking default face.  Why not? Sheploo was my Shepard.  If someone wants to go through the CC then they are welcomed to as well but I see no reason why a default model face should be scraped for a bunch of presets.

I remember when Rainbow Six  Vegas 2 tried something like this. . .

. . .The game thinks I'm Coach from L4D2 when I try using it. ;_;

Even if it works....

skitrip026.jpg

I'd make a pretty terrible space hero. So let's not do that, eh?

I kind of go back and forth. Having a go-to-face is GREAT for the dumb joke division of the community, which provides me with endless entertainment. But then people kvetch endlessly, so.... I wouldn't mind a marketing protagonist, but I'd like him or her not to be SIR GENERIC SHOOTER PROTAGONIST #9.

On second thought, this sounds like a good idea.
