I mean seriously Bioware? Watch the trailer from :11 to :20 and tell me that doesn't look exactly like the Western Approach from DAI.

I have little hope for this game, it's being pushed out too quickly and therefore is going to look beautiful, but be full of glitches and bugs and ultimately feel flat.

I am holding out a small inkling of hope that it won't be like DAI and that it's not:

1. Have an awesome main quest.

2. Grind through the identical side quests until you can purchase another awesome main quest and by that point you've almost forgotten why you're doing the main quest.

3. Repeat.

That and I am hoping for interesting side quests. Mass Effect, in my opinion, has always beaten Dragon Age in the realm of better side quests and I'm praying that EA doesn't turn ME into "Run around Tuchanka and collect 5 Varren hearts to level up your gun."

I'm also hoping we get to see more of Bioware's great writing, I feel like dialogue and companion bonding got pushed to the side for more action, fighting, and special moves. This includes romances, I hate DA's "PUSH THE HEART TO GET SEX" way of going about it. We're not stupid, I know saying, "Hey, your mandibles are cute," is flirty and saying, "Go away dextro-bird man," is mean. I like having a little freedom to flirt when I wanted to and not having to click the initiate romance choice every time.

Alas, I feel like these are nothing but wishes. I'm still going to buy the game because I'm a Bioware junkie who needs a fix, and honestly, isn't that all the EA cares about?

I wouldn't put too much stock in the demo representing in-game environments. It strikes me as little more than a tech demo so it probably does have imported assets from DAI.

I'm pretty sure that I heard somewhere that development started way back in 2012, so I don't feel like this is being rushed as there is still another year to go until its expected release. Also, it's being developed in the Bioware Montreal Studio, whereas Inquisition was made in Bioware's Edmonton studio. I am certain that we'll see a return of some of Inquisition's features in the next Mass Effect, but I highly doubt that it'll copy the negative aspects of Dragon Age. We must also keep in mind that Mass Effect likely has a much bigger budget, so we can likely expect a whole lot more from it.

The started initial design right after Citadel (if you read the announcement) which means it's been in development eighteen months. It's, what, another eighteen months until release? That puts it on a three year development cycle. Two things I very, very much want Bioware/EA to learn from CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.

First off, if you need more time, give yourself more time. Don't push a half finished game out the door, as gamers we're sick and tired of it. Better to push the release back to finish the game and blow us away with a masterpiece than copy what you did with Inquisition and run out of time in your development.

Speaking of being sick and tired, we're also sick and tired of endless fetch quests. The Witcher 3 is substantially bigger than Inqusition and doesn't have a single fetch quest in it. They're varied and are none are repetitive. Inquisition on the other hand has nothing but repetitive fetch quests. For the love of god, please look at that game's success and take note of why it is successful.

Citadel came out in March 2013. We're in June 2015. So that's actually more like 27 months. Not to mention, the announcement actually says: "When we wrapped up the original Mass Effect trilogy with Mass Effect 3: Citadel in early 2013, planning and design on Mass Effect: Andromeda was already well underway". That's a lot more than 18 months of development so far, and it isn't out until Holiday 2016 at the soonest. That doesn't exactly scream "rushed game".

Not to mention DAI was pushed back twice, once by a year, once by a month. I think EA/Bioware has learned not to try to rush things too much again.

Maybe they landed on Thedas? :P

It looks different to me.  Quite different.  Though they are using the same engine, so people might assume that it is the same.  Though if my Inquisitor had that armor, they'd look pretty rad.  Seriously, it looks totally different.  Second, this is straight to next gen.  DAI had to make allowances for current gen.  BTW, I'm fine with that.  This was supposed to be out a while back.  We are lucky it GOT pushed back, but they had planned on last gen.  Fine, no worries.  THIS one though...it's all current gen.  Meaning they can go balls out on it, and make it rock.  Not worried even in the slightest.

Except that fire tornado planet.  DON'T wanna go there.  That ain't pretty, it's scary...lol

It's an attempt to put a more human face on the 'quests' by not making it a quest but you taking a moment out of your time to help out some old lady and it's infinitely better than "Fetch me 20 Bear hides" from every quest giver which is what most modern RPGs fall back on. If that's Bioware's idea of 'exploration' for MEA then let me know before hand so I don't have to bother buying it.

It is if you find out that the pan was used in an ingenious manner to write a last message and you only have to walk for 2 seconds to get there, rather than cross the damn continent.

This may be both a popular and unpopular opinion, but DA was absolute **** compared to the Witcher 3. Storywise, graphically, atmospherically (is that a word) and even the characters and dialogue (which were poor at best in W1 and W2) were better and more immersive than DA:I's.

I just hope ME will stick to its own course, and use non of DA's aspects other than a couple of engine innovations.

Geez! The game has just been announced and people are already complaining about it.

Sometimes these boards feel like being in a retired home full of people complaining that things were so much better when they were kids...

No, OP is right, or at least I agree with him. The graphics look exactly like DA:I so far when it comes to sandy environments. No surprises here, it is Frostbite after all... but I was hoping for a more definitively Mass Effect "tint" to the graphical style here. I don't want everything to look so overly vibrant, colorful and shiny like DA:I. That seemed like a babystep towards making it look next gen. Just a wee bit too much, you know?

Plus, Peter Moore (EA guy) said "It's done when it's done". That's the best possible thing I could hear about this. I think it means Bioware games get some special treatment after that massive ME3 and DA2 fiasco and all. EA don't wanna risk so much of their reputation again by rushing Bioware.

I can see that the one sandy hills environment does remind me of Dragon Age: Inquisition as well, but to me the the character model seemed a lot better and that is really where I wanted to see more improvements. Besides there is only so many ways you can make a desert.
