I guess I don't see the difference between the two. That's probably the best way to describe it: I have exactly the same reaction to each.

For me at least was that the marketing was utterly disingenuous.  What was that song even *trying* to convey other than some vague "this game is badass" notion? There was very little in that trailer that was representative of what the game was actually about.  It was a sort of actiony fast-paced "badass" fight scene in a game with pause and play shuffle, shuffle animations and numerous pages of stat and inventory control.

At least with this one, I think I at least get what they are *trying* to go for.  I have no idea if it's actually in any way reflective of the actual game itself.

They should have used this song. Guarantee it would have gone over better with people for the trailer.

Johnny Cash and Mass effect, MAAAASS EFFEEEEECT, space, ship, war, new civilization discovery, friendship, love.................... there is something wrong ? right ?

You don't see a parallel between exploring new frontiers and country music that invokes the images of a cowboy in the dusty old west :P

They should have released it with ME 3 cut scenes whilst Jolene played for some?

That could be the theme song for a the LI's when Shepard switched between them.

I will admit, I understand what they were trying to do with that Johnny Cash song. The Wild West, yes we get it, Andromeda is unknown territory. But it felt wildly inappropriate for Mass Effect.

Exploring a new galaxy in Mass Effect should invoke a sense of wonder, not make you go "Yeeeee-haw!!!" and start plowing your Mako through enemy territories, blowing up everything in sight. One of the things I loved so much about how Mass Effect 1 handled it's tone and atmosphere was that it was calm and subtle. I've accepted that's a thing of the past now since this series has changed over the years, but I don't look at their music of choice as a good start on the developers part. Because I hope this isn't the kind of feeling they're aiming for in the new game.

To me personally, this is the kind of music I find appropriate when exploring a new galaxy:

Considering the controversy they probably regard the song choice as a good one, and the trailer a huge success. A safer more sci-fi track woulnd't be this controversial, not by a long shot.

The music was certainly something I didn't expect to hear and at first wasn't to sure about it. The more I've watched and listened to it I think I understand more with what they were going with.

I would vote for something like "Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" just for the inarticulate rage comedy effect this would likely engender.  People who think Johnny Cash is twangy and country have no idea.  Or maybe the Dukes of Hazard theme.  The nerdrage would be epic.

Liked the music. After all, the new Mass Effect is just that : A new Mass Effect, exploring the "Wilds" and such.

So, uh... Country music, hey!

And I suspected it was Mass Effect because of the Holographic thing it had on the Person's Helmet, an image Bioware Devs released.

I have to agree the music did not fit in at all

mass effect is sci fi and always had that sci fi music vibe to it

but this was just so out of character so to speak.

I hated the choice of Johnny Cash, Wild West, country etc. Bad enough there's danger this game could turn out to be another over-sprawled mess the way DAI recently turned out to be, I don't need more reminders of such an unfavorable outcome possibly being the case for this game too.

ME music is supposed to be electro & synth. Firefly is its own IP, how about sticking to what ME is actually loved for instead of trying to horn in on other things & ending up being spectacular at nothing.

I demand more Johnny Cash.

No actually, not just more.  I demand that Bioware replace every single planned track for ME:A with a Johnny Cash song.  Or else I'll cancel my pre-order.

I don't think anyone loves Mass Effect simply because of its music. Further, it's music in a trailer. Probably isn't even indicative of what the soundtrack will be like. So how people are getting bent out of shape because of a song in a trailer is beyond me.

In my mind, in this video, the music is horrible, sucks. What is the relation with the Mass Effect universe ?

Maybe they are just trying to establish it as a complete reboot.

I'm not a huge country music fan, but if they had done O Fortuna I would have rolled my eyes more for overused stuff.

I just hoped they were playing on the idea of a space western, i.e. Star Trek.

I mean sci-fi space westerns are the best, except for Space Balls (which is a different kind of brilliant).

I can remember not too long ago...   Well, it has to be what?  10 years, somewhere around there.   I woke up from getting ****** ass drunk....   I heard familiar lyrics but couldn't place the song.  I didn't even recognize the voice.  I opened my eyes to see Johnny Cash on television singing Hurt.   Ever since, I've had a new respect for the man.

I may not like his music terribly so, but at least I'm not banging down the walls angry every time a song of his comes on.
